  • I'M BACK MOTHER PLANTERS!
    This episode of GCP will be entirely about Venus Fly Trap care, and features an in-depth guide on how to construct a Venus Fly Trap terrarium THE RIGHT WAY.
    To make a water reservoir without the 3D printed wicking barrier, check out the very first episode of GCP below. It should work just fine.

    I feel like since the soil went almost all the way to the top, and the top is open, that this is kind of just like a planting pot at this point.
    But it looks prettier than a planting pot.
    Also you said don't water from above and then after planting the VFT, you watered from above. The reason to do it is the right reason but it's just funny that you mentioned a big point of not watering from above.

    Would melted snow work for water?

    • @vacciniumaugustifolium1420
      @vacciniumaugustifolium1420 Před 2 lety

      Absolutely, just be sure its a very clean snow
      Best way to be sure is to buy a TDS to be surw the water is clean. Very cheap tds meter from China on Ebay are like $3-$5 and are very precise.

    @just_randomly Před 3 lety +4

    Nice, I love that you inform yourself about the natural habitat first, before making such a terrarium. I have seen many attempts of keeping vft in big closed containers, because "it looks nice" totally ignoring the light and dormancy the plants need. So seeing the title, I was sceptical to say the least, but the way you did it should be fine :)
    I would love to see an update on your burmanii terrarium, if it still exists.
    And if you put some affiliate links in the descrption, so anyone can see what lights, terrariums, setups, etc. your´re using, that would be pretty convenient (as well as give you some easy extra compensation for your time)
    Looking forward to your next videos.

    • @HypnoticExotics
      @HypnoticExotics  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks! Your feedback is invaluable! A big problem I have with the community is people buying plants or making enclosures because they like the "idea" of it, and not the practice of caring for a plant and making a perfect home for it. The burmannii terrarium is still going, though most have flowered themselves to death lol. I made sure to keep a humpty doo going though, it's the star of the terrarium!
      Fantastic idea regarding the affiliate links, I'll get right on that!
      Keep the good vibes rolling!

    • @just_randomly
      @just_randomly Před 3 lety

      @@HypnoticExotics Glad I could help you. Yeah flowering to death is pretty common with burmannii, feeding helps sometimes but doesn´t guarantee survival.
      Mine have flowered a lot and I let them, now I have literally thousands of seeds lol. But the motherplants don´t look so well, so I´ll probably cut any future flower stocks, and hope they bounce back.

    • @HypnoticExotics
      @HypnoticExotics  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for sharing. Winter is can be super spooky when working with carnivores. Flytraps grow in 8A so you will have to keep an eye on them. Water jugs work great as a heat battery and they're used in net-zero greenhouses all the time for passive heating.
      Sundew care isn't on my list of video's to make, I'm done with the care videos for now. With that said, I do intend to try and mutate sundew seeds for a video, as they germinate/grow faster than most carnivores.
      Thanks for watching!

    How about a carnivorous plant vivarium! Using similar methods with much the same materials that amphibian and reptile hobbyists use and make it a slice of whatever environment they came from. Maybe an exo-terra terrarium? Maybe take some time but might be fun.
