- Five carnivorous plant species find a home in our freshly made terrarium named "Humpty Doo".
We have Cephalotus, Drosera, and Utricularia joining each other in this vicious jar!
As well as a special something to add even more life to this endeavor!

Hi love the terrarium could you consider doing a larger project like a fish tank .
Thanks for the feedback Melanie! I am considering a larger project, well three actually! Keep an eye out in the coming weeks ;)
Hope you will make an update. Thanks !
Update coming soon! Been very occupied with school, as well as moving across the city.
It looks really good though, check out my instagram @HECarnivorousPlants for some updates regarding the terrarium and other carnivores.
He is filming today
WOW!
What a humpty doo doo!
you're killin it with the videos, keep it up!
Fabulous video I like the idea of using the PVC pipes to build the substrate and also to water the plants without disturbing The Roots.
Thanks 👍 I've upgraded to my very own 3D printed design that I hope to show off in my next video.
I got myself a venus fly trap last year and I have been feeding it flies all year but recently it has looked like it was dying so I googled the plant (poor basterd should have done that sooner) and I was super surprised it kept living for so long as it did! I never used distilled water and I actually repotted it in normal soil. I felt a bit stupid so I have repotted it again in special soil meant for it and I got my self a Sarracenia oreophila because I am determined to be able to properly care for them. Could you maybe show us how to feed them and more importantly what to feed them ? I just fell in love with these beautiful plants !
i'm so excited to see how it turns out. The only concern I have is with the D. Pulchella because of it's very sensitive root system. I think that If I were to do something like this, I would use the gemmae of the Drosera to add them to the terrarium. Otherwise, very helpful and detailed information that is beginner friendly and welcoming!
Thank you for the feedback! I agree with that sentiment 100%
I was genuinely worried about the transplant, but they are all doing great! Best of vibes :D
This is great content! Nice job!
I'd add recommendations for food types for this terrarium and plant types.
Thank you that was awesome I’m going to make one
Thank you, your videos are amazing
More moss and rocks in between for aesthetic purposes would look great! Noticed the cephalotus precariously on the "cliff" part, which will look cool when it grows but hopefully doesn't wash off (noticed it move when you sprayed it)
Yeah I feel that sentiment 100% it would look gorgeous! The cephs are nice and cozy now actually.
You can expect to see an update within the next month or so.
Love it!
I like the design of the tank its very creative
Thank you!
This is A1 content my friend! Great light , audio, informative, engaging! Please keep up the good work!! Immediately subscribed!
New videos coming ? Would be amazing to see your collection
Yes! While a full collection video would be a doozy, I will be doing a plant spotlight playlist very soon.
Show some vids of where the plants are grown and all your plants
Just posted a quick look at my Highland Nepenthes cabinet!
wow, awesome plants!!
Great Video, love your shirt, I wonder if I can still buy it.
Thank you for watching!!! I bought the shirt at Pac Sun ages ago.
Awesome plants!!
Can't wait for more videos

Beautiful...
I may have missed it, but did you do anything special to support the interesting topography? Or once the plants get established will the roots prevent the hill from slumping down or eroding away from any top watering you may do?
You deserve more subs your amazing plz make an update
OH MY THANK YOU! Update coming soon :)
I haven't matured cephalotus follicularis
Nice video man! From South East Queensland Australia and been thinking about making terrariums for a while! Good to see you using Australian species, Burmanii grow where I am and are beautiful
I appreciate those words! I figured it would help the success if the plants originated from similar locations (only the Burmannii 'humpty doo' has confirmed aussie genetics though.) Best growing.
I understand the long pvc pipe is where you water the terrarium, but what are the short ones for? I'm planning a carnivorous terrarium in a 10 gallon tank. Your build has given me some great ideas. Thank you.
Please do a video for setting up for Venus flytraps and pitcher plants. Love your videos. I keep killing mine.
Sure thing! They're still coming out of dormancy at this time, (Colorado winters are rough) so a video of those will be coming later in the year. I do intend to get a LARGE haul of VFT's and Sarrs from Cooks this month, so be sure to keep a lookout for the unboxing video, and potting tutorial.
Thanks for this amazing terrarium, i will do one similar in next months so this give me some extra whit the planification. By the way, i have never grow Queensland drosera whit sphagnum, ill give it a try, looks really good whit it.
so far so good, only improvements I can see, is to explain what you are doing a little more in depth, like why did you cut the first plant with a butter knife but the last plant you took out all together in one bunch? but still amazing job and extremely informative. keep up the awesome work!!!
Awesome comment, thank you! To answer your question, by cutting the plugs of U. Sandersonnii into strips and spreading them out (the butter knife just made this task easier), it promotes a more thorough distribution of the plant within the terrarium.
The last plant (C. Follicularis) has extremely sensitive roots, so I removed the whole bunch as to avoid disturbing them too much, then carefully removed the remaining soil by hand.
Hope this answers your questions!
You should add springtails to fight off mold and algae
Thank you, AWESOME suggestion. Will be looking into that.
It saddens me that the fan survived the throw.. amazing and interesting videos though, glad I decided to search for carnivorous plant terrariums
Does adding springtails is okay? Wouldn’t it be affected any of my plants ?
i’m totally new to this stuff where do you get these plants? do you order them online or something because i’m not entirely sure if they would have them in my area and i don’t have a car so i don’t want to spend a lot of money on uber or buses to not find these awesome plants
Welcome to the hobby! Retailers on the internet are the best way to get the plants, as most nurseries online have enough stock and working capital to provide a "live arrival guarantee".
Do some have dormancy? If yes thats a problem
How do you get the dirt to stay up by the top
interesting channel!
What did you do for winter for this terrarium?
Drosera capensis is best sun dew
How will you prevent aphids from invading the terrarium? ... I'm asking because after a year my sundew jar terrarium after its first dormancy got aphids and I have a method of getting rid of the aphids but my equipment for that has not came in the mail yet.
So what is the updates on this set up
Expect to see a terrarium update within the month.
waiting for next episode
It was uploaded last week
I love that you actually thought what CPs should be put in the terrarium, not like other content creators who just plop random CPs in(like VFTs! They should never be in a terrarium!). I would like to see an update of this though.
Nice video, very informative and helpful for newbies!☺️
could you do a video showing all the carnivorous plants you grow?
While a full tour will not be happening soon, I will be doing a plant-spotlight style playlist in the coming months. You can check me out on instagram @HECarnivorousPlants to see the other plants I grow.
Whoa way cool! I used this video as a sciene learning tool in my homeschool!
Now where is the best place to purchase carnivurous plants, especially Venus Fly Traps, In your opinion, best price for quality. We live in SC! yay! they can live outside!
Glad it was helpful!
Nurseries online are THE best way to get these plants. Simply because most have enough resources available to provide a "live arrival guarantee".
Any updates on the terrarium?
Waiting on a new lens, follow me on instagram for BTS updates though! @HECarnivorousPlants.
the easiest most common drosera is D. capensis.
also the most dramatic in it's movement after the VFT.
do you own any books on CPs?
if not i can recommend 'the savage garden' by peter d'amato.
tip: if you feed them rainwater instead of distilled or osmosis water they will not need to be fed insects.
Looks great!! What’s the water pump that you are using?
Thanks for the feedback! It's a kerosene siphon. I found it for 8 bucks at Ace Hardware. I would highly recommend the motorized version, hand pumping gets old.
How do i transport a pitcher plant from the forest?? Im in need to save it since its rare around where i live so i want to preserve it by taking it in. How may i do this help me please. Thank you! Do reply me a.s.a.p before the forest near my house get torn
I would highly recommend contacting your local authorities and wildlife officials regarding this.
Although your intentions are good, I would never recommend taking plants from the wild without a permit or license. If you can obtain permission, you would want to have all of the supplies ready (tree bark, sphagnum moss, pine needles, etc). Majority of commercial plants are shipped bare-root with wet paper towels around the roots, this method could suffice for your transplant.
@@HypnoticExotics thank you! Will go the the agriculture department about the matter!
@@awangkuharith2458 Happy to help! It's always good to hear about conservation.
I may have missed this in either this video or the last one, but how often do I need to water the terrarium? Also do I just water it purely from the reservoir? I made a terrarium but missed the care-taking instructions.
I water the terrarium about once a week, filling only the reservoir. I do topwater on occasion, but that's really just to clean away any mold/spores and crud from the surface.
any of those plants require a winter dormancy?
While the Cephalotus and D. Pulchella can both enter a dormant state, they do not require it.
Hope that helps 😊🌱
progress video?
Coming soon! :)
is there an update
An update video is coming soon! You can check me out in instagram @HECarnivorousPlants for relevant info (terrarium pics, plant updates, etc)
use a glass tank , dont know why many like to use jars , obstruct the view
Views.
Nice terrarium but you're wrong on the trapping mechanism of the terrestrial Ultricuaria species; only the aquatic species have a trapping mechanism as you describe. Maybe you should use smaller packs of cocaine 2:59
