  • It's been a very long time since Minivans were cool, however with Ford's take on the the Minivan with this new Transit Connect, they are trying to reverse the trend of bigger, heavier and more expensive.
    This time on Rumblestrip.NET and Ten Minute Test Drive we look to see of the Ford can make the Minivan cool again, or, at least something that people will want to be seen in.

    Bought a slightly used (20k) LWB XLT a month ago for a good deal (IMO) of $16,750. Wife and kids love it so far. Will update review as needed

    I bought one of these in the same color as the one in this video. It replaced my 2007 Honda Element. It drives good, not as peppy as my Element was, but it is decent when it comes to acceleration, and a whole lot quieter. I don't have the roof glass, but have everything else. It has a lot of gizmos and gadgets that I don't really care for. I got a decent deal on it because it is a 14 leftover and I got it in April of 15. I keep the 3rd row of seats folded down all the time and have a nice cargo area behind the second row. I have 1,200 miles on it now and it is getting 20+mpg average in city driving for the most part. 7 year/100,000 mile extended warrantee takes the worry out of owning this for the next 7 years. I plan on taking some road trips with it since I recently retired and have time to do that. It's easy to park because the turning circle is small.

    I finally got to see one of these in person and I have to say it would make a very good family truckster. It has enough upscale equipment on it to make it livable, but is also utilitarian enough that it could get most any job done. That long roof would make a really good platform for hauling a couple of canoes or kayaks. A luxury liner it is not, but I really think it would fit the bill for a lot of people. This van tops out in price below where most minivans start so it is a really good deal in that sense.

    Thank you for this review. Very well done. You hit a nerve, because I have a big German Shepherd and I carry him with me all the time in a dog airline carrier. I haven't found anything except my current Kia or Chrysler but the price of the Kia that was previously $21k-$27k is now $30k-$43k and all of them went up-market. I think that $24k-$29k is very reasonable for a minivan. I think $40k is really ridiculous.
    Great family truckste

    Great review. However, a non-recline 2nd row is a turn off, don't care about power sliding doors although it would be great but not able to recline in a family wagon in this day and age is almost inexcusable, imo.

    I own a 2015 Titanium Transit Connect. This is the first vehicle that I have ever owned or driven where the driver cannot turn on the cabin lights. #unminivan Fail... And while I live in FL, the heater for the rear is substandard. Also the vents in the third Row do not fully close, allowing just as much air by them as when they are open.

      You can actually turn on the cabin lights! There is a button that is on the roof light in the front to turn on the cabin lights. The button is on the left hand side on the front of the light housing. This light will be mounted on the roof in the middle between the driver and passenger seats if you DO NOT have the Panoramic Vista Roof or it will be mounted on the roof above the drivers head if you DO have the Panoramic Vista Roof. I hope this info helps!

    • @carlbrothers
      @carlbrothers Před 8 lety

      +whatitis99 nope. my light cluster up front has two buttons, on for each map light and then a rocker that controls when the cabin lights come on. that rocker switch when turned to the all on position only turns on the front cab light.

    Nice Review, It's a pity you don't get the Diesel versions in the US because they will do 55 to 76.3 MPG and they pull like a Train, 70/80mph all Day and the 1.5L has more Torque than the US 2.5L petrol/Gas Version and you will get 700 to 1000 miles per tank of fuel, And the 2019/2020 models are just as good, Again Great review and thanks for posting.

    Hey Rumblestrip.NET I've been looking up some more information about the Transit Connect and and I can't seem to find the height of the load in area. Do you think it is possible to load a motorcycle inside that is 44.5in tall with the seats folded down or should I just get the cargo van? I have a pretty large family and I don't want to sacrifice the seats. Thanks in advance and i'm glad to see that you're uploading again :)

    • @RumblestripDotNet
      @RumblestripDotNet  Před 9 lety

      Headroom is listed as 41", but that's seat bottom to headliner, you'd have to cut that by 3-6 inches with the seats folded down. I don't think you could pull it off, unless you just had the cargo version, rather than the passenger version.

    My big thing is will be reliable like my Honda Element. I have 150,000 miles on my element and have done every single bit of the maintenance myself and only had to take it in for recall notice with issues with transmission program allowing it be knocked out of gear while driving. Ford has never really had a great record of reliable cars!!!

      The street price for the top of the line version he is driving is right around $30,000. In a world of minivans that easily top $45.000 that seems like a lot of van for the money. $18,000 gets you a base Focus these days.

      +Michael Lawn I don't hate BMW but drove a 3 series 2014 from Nashville, TN to Ohio and my legs went numb/fell asleep. Although it was fun to drive with paddles and AWD it was uncomfortable. My Ford Freestyle is a much better ride (than any X series I've been in) and Ford has surprisingly upped their game. I'm not saying I hate BMW but honestly, I'd rather drive a Volkswagen/Audi product and BMW is overrated... For is surprisingly underrated and surprisingly fun to drive!

      Michael Lawn perhaps my ***** FREESTYLE is a fluke but I've got 160,000 miles and only maintenance was coil packs, wires, tires and brakes. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. I've owned VW, Chrysler, Cadillac, and other Fords.
