About the dog statue: I'm so glad you showed this as it is one of Brussels least known statues. but to me completes the 3 pissing statues in town.
it is called zinneke yes, but it's the nickname for people who live in Brussels but not original from Brussels. Each year there is a parade where all the foreign nationalities parade in. called the Zinnekeparade.
the nick name for people born in Brussels is a "ketje".
The dog represents the stray dogs during the french occupation (1746). stray dogs were so underfed and thin. smugglers would use them to smuggle coffee during the night to the other side towards the dutch side.
