Literally pinned on for club and country, every game he performs brilliantly and under pressure hes even better. Surely in contention for Player of the Year, it'll be a crime if he's not nominated
The best thing about josh is he is a 8 out of 10 every game mr consistent
I heard he’s really improved his carrying
Jo'burgs finest
What if I hit you with a rock
@@tobyallen6393 born in Wicklow 🤩
@@tobyallen6393 He’s Irish. He was born and raised in Ireland. His grandad was Dutch on his fathers side and then moved to County Wicklow in Ireland. Has no ties or connection to South Africa whatsoever.
@@harryocallaghan8082 Gotcha!
Has to be World Player for the Year this year.
You should look at lukhanyo am and antoine DuPont
@@brettmarshall4931 I have, many times. Am was unreal this year, and if he didnt get injured, he might have won the award. I dont think Dupont was at his very best compared to last year. But JVDF has been proven to be the best and deserves the title.
Not the biggest, not the fastest, not the heaviest, not the strongest.
An exceptionally high work rate, consistent performances, and even on his or Irelands worst day he still rates 8/10. Collects MotM medals for fun.
And even with the incredible world class depth of flankers I'm both Leinster and Ireland, he's the top dog. World player of year in my books
He’s probably one of the quickest modern flankers
Probably one of the smartest though. Finds that gap in the line that you didn’t think existed.
As an Englishman I have to upmost respect for JVF. Obviously very talented, but you can see he's worked over the years and improved every part of his game. Plus every time I've seen him in any interview I've thought what a bloody nice lad he comes across as. World player of the year imo 👏
Big ball carrier, dominant tackler, class poacher, he's got it all
One word : consistent. And the number of world class players in the irish team is astonishing.
The Irish Dussatoir
Literally everyone going on about Addie savea and Am, literally the world has such short memories, if he takes in form from this year into the autumn, he will be a significant margin being the most deserving of world player of the year. He has been simply exceptional and if he doesn’t win it shows the journalists who vote don’t know what they’re talking about, but then being again they don’t know what they’re talking about so….
I agree with JVDF's form but don't downplay Am. That man has been ridiculously fucking in form too. If both continue thru the Autumn both will have strong resumes for POTY
He's a machine
Best 7 in the world atm
Ardie Savea
@@FG-ul6yi except he’s a number 8
@FG101 Ardie Savea is a fantastic n8 but not as good at 7 as Van der Flier
@@simonmoore3546 he's not a no8 he's a 7 playing no8
@@benvaughan3392 ah I know what you mean Ben. I still wouldn’t rate him as No.1 in the world though. Great player yes but he has a way to go yet I reckon.
Great highlight again as always what a job, now I'm waiting one for sexton season , he was brilliant
He's currently the best 7 in the world imo. Constantly puts in huge performances in defence and attack. Not the biggest flanker but a pure 7 with a great engine and serious work rate.
Great compilation showing the utterly consistent level of commitment to everything JVDF does. He is an inspiration and a true role model of what a professional rugby player should be. I nominate him as not only World Rugby POTY (by some distance) , but that he be made Patron Saint of Rugby. And all from a player who didn't really look like he was going to make the grade for several years. JVDF proved that there is only one way to get to Carnagie Hall 😁.
'Van Der Flier. In the clear. Just out of theer' Briljant commentary
South African power💪🇿🇦
He’s dutch you melon
@@motomoto8383 He’s actually Irish. His grandfather was Dutch on his fathers side. Then moved to Ireland where his son (Josh’s father) met an Irish woman (Josh’s mother) He has no ties or connection to South Africa and was born and raised in Ireland. 🇮🇪☘️💪🏻
@@motomoto8383 Do you have quick reflexes?
Sin duda alguna, uno de los mejores 7 en la actualidad
Best openside in the world rn
The try at 2:16 has a moment just like that of Will Jordan skinning Sexton. The player ultimately backs themselves. You can see the moment where VDF eyes up the tackler and distance to GL and immediately changes the ball tothe other hand to score perfectly.
Maybe went a little underrated as a player till now but should be in convos for best 7 in the world / player even he's had that sort of season.
The best flanker of the world
Between him, Tadhg Furlong & Hugo Keenan. Has to be probably the most consistent open side if not player in world rugby for the last 4/5 seasons. He’s got some engine on him & tackle rate. Never injured. Always plays 80 minutes. Improved his running game immensely! Such a classy player and deceptively strong too!
The Irish backrow is incredibly strong between him, Jack Conan, Caelan Doris, Peter O’Mahony, Nick Timoney, Gavin Coombes, Will Connors, Cian Prendergast, Scott Penny, Max Deegan, Jack O’Donoghue, Alex Kendellan. Ridiculous amount of strength in depth.
He's just really good.
Might not be the biggest flanker but he is definitely are most reliable player. He's so well rounded now and I can't remember him ever having a quiet game in green even during that rough first year under Farrell.
Best player in the world right now
My uncle has meet him a couple times and he says hes a realy nice guy
I heard the English back row we're alod out to go to the Pro Cathedral 😂
Definetly a Lions player at the moment. It was disgrace to see him NOT chosen for the lions last year. Imo he deserves to get on the place to Australia in 2025. Besides for all people saying he’s South African, he’s Dutch. Check the video ‘Leinster academy’ I think it’s episode 4 where JVD is documented. He says that he’s half Dutch and moved over when he was young.
The Sth African line is a running gag started by (and maintained) by the great Squidge Rugby in his videos. It's done purely for laughs. Josh's grandfather was Dutch. Josh was born in Ireland and reared in Ireland, as were his parents as Squidge well knows. He did it as a wind up, and reeled in so many it's taken on a life of its own.
his grandparents are dutch
Gatland is so biased way to many welsh players on the lions team
Tremendous. Thank you for showing all of James lowes try. Belter.
Underrated player
He is a credit to his teams
This video aged very well, now player of the year.
Josh is so good
Really grown over 18months as a must for Ireland
As Squidge says, he's one of the best South Africans out there at the moment
couldn't think of a more descriptive title
Epic
No wonder he's the player of the year this bloke is outstanding..
He proves you don't need height for flankers or 8s just skill
Criminal that he didn't even make the squad for the lions tour.
Agreed -has to be Player of the Year. Not bad for a South African lad... :)
South African lol! You know he is Irish with a Dutch grandfather right xD
@@contentmoderator198 I think he wanted you to bite there bud
LOL. All hail Squidge.
@@cedricos20Guess I missed the Squidge reference lol
Could you pls do rhys ruddock for leinster snd ireland
Potential WPOTY in my opinion
How VDF and Sexton didn't get picked the the Lions I don't know but, I'm glad they didn't now as they've stepped up a gear and it's benefited Ireland big time. 🍀
Quietly the best in the world atm
How many MoM awards has he picked up in the last 2 years? Ridiculous consistency
From italy top top player
He’s like Ritchie McCaw
What Is Those Songs Called
Let’s be honest, a VDF highlight video could last 10hrs.
Springboks should never have let this guy go. He’s really improved his carrying since moving to Ireland!!
Good one!🤣🤣👍..squidge fan?
What's this about the Springboks. As far as I know he has and never had any connection with them. Old Wesley. Wicklow and Leinster......
Not South African and never played for a south African team what you on about
He's like McCaw but more deadlier on attack......
IM BRUTHERS IN LAW WITH JOSH
He's an excellent player. Still not better than ardie savea though
Savea not even the best number 8 in the world
Do the Dutch play rugby?
yeah somewhat, the sport is growing however not nearly as big as in the tier 1 nations obviously. maybe in 10-15 years they will make the world cup is my guess. I know a guy who is dutch and was so good he was scouted by toulouse as a 15 yr old (for their u16's) so there is definitely an upwards future
The Dutch are slowly improving, playing against Romania, Georgia, Spain etc. They have a team in the Rugby Europe Super Cup, which is a new league with teams from Georgia, Spain, Portugal, Israel and Belgium. They also just signed a new Welsh coach. This year there was a Dutch guy playing for the Highlanders in super rugby called Holland. Olli Jager from the Crusaders also has a Dutch father.
@@contentmoderator198 thanks for the extra information! love to see the sport grow successfully
