    I HAVE A GREAT SUGGESTION!!!! Can you add a feature for users to directly draw on the manuscript?
    So the manuscript would have 2 modes. First being what we have now- a traditional typing format. Second would be an "expression art mode" for making mind maps and doodling ideas. It would be super helpful for users to sketch out lose concepts and use pictures BEFORE writing them down to prevent making a mess with lots of sentences that go nowhere. Nothing super fancy, almost like an infinite canvas sort of deal where you have a lot of space to flesh out ideas. It would speed up the workflow and really set campfire apart as it has brainstorming features built into the software instead of buying a doodle app, then transferring those ideas into campfire. Of course users would need some sort of display tablet/ pen feature already available on their device.
    Let me know what you think! I would love to try the beta out.

    This is fantastic! I was so hoping for something more akin to Word, while still being able to have tags, etc. This is everything I wanted!
    Is there a way to put the navigation bar on the right hand side?

      There sure is! Go to "My Account" in the top left -> Settings -> Write. Then you should find the option under "Manuscript Settings"

    Is there a way to use the @ character without pulling up the tag window? It's extremely annoying to have my stream of consciousness interrupted every time I try to use it.

    • @campfirewriting
      @campfirewriting  Před 2 lety +3

      Not at the moment, but we're always looking into ways we can improve the experience. However, there are people who have massive collections of 300+ characters (let along any other modules) so we need to accommodate that as well. We'll discuss it as a team and see if there's anything we can do later though!

    Hey this is probably a dumb question, but I've been hesitant to use @ tags out of fear of them showing up in the final manuscript, but I'm guessing this isn't actually an issue, right?

    While mine shows the "Add Notes", I am only able to put a title, no text or anything < -- fixed when I refreshed the page, but strange I had to do that. The Contents card, however, is completely un-editable even after a refresh.

      Okay - think if figured it out - I have to add headers, which in a story doesn't go well. That being said, I just switched some key words to 'headers' then formatted them back to how they were before, but still was able to keep the functionality. Thanks!

    Can you write using scenes as well as chapters?

    • @campfirewriting
      @campfirewriting  Před rokem +1

      Sure! We might call them "chapters" but really you can use each manuscript element and organize them however you like.

    • @ComposerRocks
      @ComposerRocks Před rokem

      @@campfirewriting Can you clarify? I sometimes need to move a scene to a new place within a chapter or even to a new chapter. Apps like Scrivener accomplish this with a folder/scene hierarchy, where a chapter is essentially a folder and each scene is within that chapter/folder? (Just like, say, Scrivener.)
      I guess what I'm asking is, can I organize what you call "chapters" into a hierarchy where I can drag things around?

    • @EclecticFruit
      @EclecticFruit Před 17 dny

      @@ComposerRocks The chapters I create in Campfire Manuscript can be dragged around to reorganize/reorder them. That sounds similar to what you described, but importantly, this is order only. There's no way to make one chapter of a manuscript become a hierarchial child of another chapter. Another important thing to point out is that exporting from campfire writing makes it very easy to export only the active chapter or the entire manuscript. If you're used to a hierarchy and want to export several "chapters" (scenes, as you point out) as a subset of the whole manuscript, you would have to manually select each chapter that forms the subset. This is doable, but inconvenient if the entire manuscript was using the chapter functionality as scenes instead.

  • @robgagnon

    Is it possible to add the characters whose are in a scene to the left of the manuscript window? I can replace the "Add Notes" title with their names, but I can't have, say, something like a list of participating actors and the links to their character cards, can I?

    • @campfirewriting
      @campfirewriting  Před 10 měsíci

      There's no way to automatically create that list, but you can locate them via the navigator card, or add notes as you said.

      That's a feature we want to implement, but it's harder to do than it looks, and we haven't had the time (we're a tiny team). That said, it's still on our radar, so I'm hoping to add it in the future!

    i miss the old layout, the new themed layouts pale to comparison with the old layout.
    in the old layout i feel like writing on a parchment with a quill.
    it makes me feel inspired.

    I tried out Campfire's manuscript tool and I find it severely lacking. I'm sure the whole tagging system is super awesome, but I can't get past that I cannot edit the indentation of individual paragraphs to get the look that I want. Try to mimic Google Docs if you can.
    Frankly, I find Google Docs somewhat lacking as well as I have to manually set the indentation on paragraphs because the indentation settings can't be saved to be applied like a style. If Campfire would implement paragraph styles with precision indentation values, I'd switch to and pay for Campfire in a heartbeat.
    At least Campfire seems to be able to take vector graphics without first converting them to pixel graphics, but the resizing happens in pretty large steps rather than fluently and that's bad.

    • @campfirewriting
      @campfirewriting  Před rokem

      Thanks for the feedback! The Manuscript is definitely an ongoing project. We have a few planned updates to it coming later this year, and I'm sure more will come after that. I totally get it if it's not the best tool for you right now, but we're going to keep working to improve it. Keep an eye out for all that!

    • @KaptenN
      @KaptenN Před rokem

      @@campfirewriting I'm looking forward to it. Campfire sure seems like a useful tool in other aspects.
      Have you considered some kind of Google Docs integration? If nothing else it could work as a stopgap measure until Manuscript is full-featured. Though, that might take a lot of work to implement as well.
