- The first episode of a television show's season needs to hook the audience and make them want them to tune back in for more. Did The Next Step do this for all seven of their seasons? Let's put them in order from worst to best!

I always thought that when Emily gets rid of the hip hop dancers that west should have walked in saying something like did you miss me or something then he realised that Emily kicked out the hip hop dancers

One thing that always bothered me in the first episode of season 1 was that they had the intro before the auditions so you already knew who was on A-Troupe before the auditions even started.
Very true yes! At the time though I guess we didn't really know whether it meant a troupe or just main characters so I think it's a bit excusable

mockingariana3 yea bc i remember when i was watching it for the first time i was so confused as to why giselle was still in the intro after she got kicked out but they still mentioned her and emilys "plan" so i just thought she was still a main character

The reason why season 5 didn't have an opening dance is because A-Troupe lost regionals in season 4 (plus the time gap). TNS only do opening group dances after A-Troupe winning major competitions!
I feel like they still could've had one, maybe if the returning a troupers come in early and go to studio A to do an opening dance, then Emily comes in and tells them to go to studio 1? After that the intro could play, because it's such a cliffhanger as to why Emily is back and why she's not using studio A
They had an opening dance in season six and in that season they never won in 5 caus they never went
Josh L The Regionals Qualifier counts as a competition but its more of a minor one! TNS "won" a spot to compete at Regionals. So in season 6, the A-Troupers performed an opening dance!
I have a video idea for you: ranking TNS character exits from most emotional to least emotional you don’t have a include characters that left without a proper exit or characters that left and then came back like Amy and Lilly

two video ideas: 1. tns what ifs - you could use certain scenarios and say what if this happened and what you think would happen (eg. what if hunter and emily never broke up or what if they got back together etc) IDEA 2: Ranking A Troup introduction dances (for example A-Side, Stand up, Animals)
What if is coming next week and will be a mini series (I'm very excited) 😊

Something I always wished they'd adressed was if The Next Step actually did dance lessons as well, like, we know there's a few competitive Troupes but is that all they do?
YES.
There’s dance lessons there j troupe then there’s the baby ballerina classes
The Stephensons I think that’s always been implied - something I’ve never understood is that you quite often see people complaining that the A-Troupers are at the studio all the time for no reason, but I think the idea is that they spend just as much time taking dance classes there as they spend rehearsing for competitions. We’ve seen everyone taking ballet classes and acro classes, it’s implied they do tap classes, and I’m guessing they do contemporary and jazz classes too - and it would be a strange sort of dance studio if they just left them to get better as dancers all by themselves 😂😄 basically, I’ve always just assumed that they’re taking regular dance classes at the studio on top of all their rehearsals and we don’t usually see it because we’re kind of just there to watch them prepare for their competitions, so I’m always a bit surprised that people think they wouldn’t hang around the studio as much as they do... you’re right in that they’ve never officially addressed that though, so it would be really great if they did that in a future episode 😄😄

In the bts of this dance on the next steps channel, they were told to freestyle/improvise this whole dance in season 7

but Showstoppa was at nationals so there's probably a video on the internet and Richelle was in the Flash mob dance so she probably taught it to every one
I always thought that sending Amanda to Sweden was weird because Kate never really liked her but she sent her to represent Canada in Sweden which I think is kinda weird... 🤔

Mine is Season 7 episode 1 cause I think it's really emotional cause Michelle leaves and stuff
I don’t know why but personally I really didn’t like season 4, the whole James and Alfie fighting over Riley. (I know this video is putting the first episodes from each season from top to bottom) Although Riley is my favourite character, even though she has left now, I feel like she didn’t take the role as studio head properly. She also overlooked Noah’s back injury. By the way love your videos, keep doing what your doing!💗
averyx and the main plot on s4 was about rallies and jiley which annoyed me a lot bc the next step is a dance drama reality show not just a drama reality show

Mate, you're not alone. A lot of fans don't like Season 4. I saw it at the age of 15 (so I was in the demographic for the show) and even when I was a teenager, I found the plots so boring and thought there were too many episodes. I also didn't like the Bangers and Mashups storyline as it distracted from the main story and it just felt like an excuse to keep older characters, while not giving enough focus to the newer ones (keep in mind, there were 9 new A-Troupers, 7 of whom were not in previous seasons). I also didn't like Riley being made studio head given she could only have been 16-17 years old at the time and Kate's abrupt exit without even saying goodbye (Phoebe also had an off-screen exit and I was surprised she didn't say goodbye either (West asked where she was in the first episode). However I didn't care that much since she didn't have much relevance and was almost pointless). Jiley-Ralfie ranks as the second-worst storyline in my opinion (second only to Riley being made studio head, which started Season 4's decline).

The thing I always think about with season 1 episode 1 is back then they had no idea what TNS would become. It also is great in the way it set the tone for that season, great introduction to everything we need to know, foreshadowing the drama. Season 4 cliff hanger was silly because we don't even know Piper so we don't really care about her cos we have no connection to her

Sorry I'm so late I was Skyping my friend earlier. This video was awesome and I agree with a lot of your opinions. Here is my ranking of the first episode from every season from worst to best:
WORST - Season 4
This episode wasn't terrible but it just didn't hook me in. The opening dance was pretty good and I liked how the OGs left cause it was realistic, but Eldon thinking that Thalia moved to Poland to be with Bartek was just completely ridiculous. Thalia TOLD Eldon that she would be going to Poland to dance and reconnect with her family, so it was just unrealistic. The new characters were cool but I didn't love them as much as the old ones. Now that TNS had won everything, I didn't really want to see them go to Regionals again, so I wasn't too excited. But I liked how we met Piper.
6th Place - Season 5
This episode was kind of boring. There was no opening dance and I felt like the first 10 minutes was just the characters warming up and talking. I thought it was unrealistic and irrational for Emily to just chuck out the hip hop dancers, cause she's BEEN on a team with amazing hip hop dancers before. The auditions were great but they went on for too long in my opinion. I really didn't like the Emily vs Michelle thing because they've been on good terms since Season 2 so it was just annoying.
5th Place - Season 7
I really loved this episode but the ones above it are just better. The opening dance was good but I wish we had more unison sections and it went on for longer. Michelle and Emily’s scenes were so emotional and natural and they make me cry every time. I loved when they recreated all of Michelle’s dances but I agree with you that they didn’t need to put Michelle saying, “The auditions are in here right?” over Richelle saying it. I don’t know how they found the dances though. So overall this episode was great, one of my favs from S7 but it didn’t hook me in that much.
4th Place - Season 2
This episode was pretty great. I loved the opening dance and the solos, and I was so excited to see Nationals, Jiley and how Emily would deal with Micheldon. The party was great and we got to see Beth trying to talk to James, which foreshadowed them kissing. Amanda coming and A-Troupe deciding whether to do the challenge was such a great cliffhanger in my opinion because I didn’t like Amanda and I had gotten so used to this A-Troupe. IT CHANGED EVERYTHING. Overall a great episode.
3rd Place - Season 1
This episode makes me so nostalgic because it was the one that started it all. As soon as it started I felt like I had just been pulled into this crazy dance world of competitions, relationships and drama that I was so excited for. We got introduced to so many cool and iconic things, like A-Troupe and E-Girls. I enjoyed the dances and I saw some of my long-time fav characters for the first time, like Chloe, Giselle, James and West. The cliffhanger made me so excited for the next episode because I wanted so badly to see who made it into A-Troupe and who didn’t. So yeah, a great episode.
2nd Place - Season 6
This episode was amazing and I loved the opening dance. I liked the unison sections and solos. It also made me so excited to see what would happen. When Miss Angela came, I was like “What is going on here please?” I loved the new characters except Lily obviously, but I had this hunch that she was nice deep down (like Amanda) so I was excited to see if that would happen. Summer has become one of my fav characters and I loved how she stood up for Piper. I just wish she did it with Amy or something, cause I wanted to see Amy stick up for her best friend. Michelle and Emily working in Shakes and Ladders was crazy and Piper going missing made me so excited to see the next episode. This episode is only very narrowly in second.
BEST - Season 3
This episode is legendary in my opinion. It’s one of the best in S3 and maybe even the whole show. I loved the opening dance, the unison sections and we got so many updates on what had happened. Lucien buying the studio and Kate saying they needed to merge with Elite hooked me in and made me so nervous to see what would happen next. We also saw the juice bar, saw that Michelle’s parents had gotten divorced, saw Emily with her injury, saw Amanda struggle to convince the team she was trustworthy and James joined a band. This episode pulled me back into the world of TNS that I loved so much and hooked me in to all the drama. It is my ultimate fav.
This comment took me so long to write. I finished it and then accidentally clicked off so I lost everything which was really annoying. Again I loved this video Alishea. Also, I don't want to put any pressure on you but when is the next Sims video coming out? I'm just so excited to see it! 💖💖

loved that vid ! that was so good ! I love how you didn't put all your sims3 videos together so you spaced them out which is so good ! BTW: did u ever notice how in season 2 auditions , choreo section , Tiffany says shes really struggling because shes not a contemporary dancer so she cant pirouette but in stutter she does like 10 in a row with everyone else and shes front and center for that part. Also in the same audition West isn't really doing the moves properly because hes not a contemporary dancer, yet in stutter he does a box jump that's like higher than Eldons :)

So I’m definitely late to the party 😂 but I was really interested to see how these got ranked, because every single opening episode is brilliant in my opinion, for different reasons - I definitely agreed with everything you said, but I even struggle to fault The New Regime, so hopefully that indicates how much I’ve enjoyed every opening episode!!! Like I said though, I did agree with everything - this was really well thought out 😄
It's so interesting to hear your opinions. Season 3's opening dance stands out the most for me because I love love love Coming Home!! My favourite first episode would be Season 6, purely for the plot. I found the Miss Angela storyline very intriguing and I was very upset at the prospect of Piper leaving. In Season 7, I don't like how Emily tore some of Michelle's outfits, it showed her emotions but I thought it was very childish. I am so excited for the next TNS x Sims episode!

Loved season 3 opening dance loved comming home
what i also noticed in the first episodes of each season (except from season 5 onwards) and something that carried on until a troupe was announced is that they had the old white wall intro from the previous season in anticipation for a new white wall, a new a troupe, which is a small think but i liked it what they did it for seasons 2,3 and 4. but i didnt like it that they didnt continue from season 5 onwards. its just a small thing but i just thought it would be nice to mention. :)

I LOVE these Ranking Videos! I feel like the first episode of Season 2 was the best in my opinion, purely because I liked the Emily, Michelle and Eldon Drama, and the party was also really interesting and entertaining to watch. And of course like you said The big cliffhanger about 'The Challenge' was also very suspenseful. So I would personally swap Season 3 with Season 2.

I know I'm a bit late but I just thought of a video idea that I think would be interesting to watch.My idea is a video where you rank all the like different dance studios and things that have been in tns (not the drink/eating tho).For example things like,studio a,studio 1,the music room,that one room they had in season 4 (can't remember what it's called) and the lounge etc..

i’m so late on this video but i’m pretty sure the whole michelle thing at the end of the season 5 one was because studio A is where it all started and so she would have gone back in there to feel and see what she was feeling and remember why she is there in the first place. also a lot of the original cast did their final dance kind of scene in there so even tho it wasn’t her final dance or day at the next step, it was still kind of that transition moment.

The 2 finals routines for internationals were mainly hip hop so having Emily kick out all the hip hop dancers was just weird and why was Henry still there, he’s a hip hop dancer
