- Spoilers for Hearstopper Seasons One and Two!! 🏳️🌈 💕
LGBTQIA+ representation is so important, so in celebration of Pride Month I wanted to break down a show that does it exceptionally well: Alice Oseman's Heartstopper. In this video, I'll be talking about what we, as writers, can learn from this fabulous show and apply to our own writing; how to write representation well.

I liked the scene in season one (I think) when Elle came over to Tao's house and his mom made them keep the door open. While it is a little awkward, it's just nice to see a show where people's parents aren't constantly upset about trans people, and it's never an issue that Elle is trans for them.
Yes! I loved that bit. There are so many little subtle things that shouldn’t have to feel special, but do.
I love all the points you made! Especially about Nick vs Ben and about Elle and Tao dating. I do remember being really pleasantly surprised by the queer representation in Heartstopper when I first watched it. In my opinion, it definitely does it wayyyyy better than the rest of the queer YA shows out there. Nice video!
Thank you so much! 💜
One of the things I liked about the comic was how awkward conversations would come with huge pauses as they both struggled with how to be emotionally open with each other. Resonated with me as a dude lol
Yess I loved that about it. It felt so authentic. I've also always thought awkwardness helped to show the evolution of a relationship.
CZcams keeps recommending me crappy "anti-woke" videos with 500 views so having this gem in my feed was a nice surprise.
I’m happy a bit of positivity could come your way and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
