This video shows how to make a fun Mini Snap Bag. These are great fun to make and make great gifts. The pattern is available to purchase and download on www.gourmetquilter.com
Of all the many videos I've watched for this type of project, yours is by far my very favorite! Being an OCD person myself, I love how detailed your instructions are. Thank you very much for posting this and I am so grateful to have found you. I am now making these bags in all sizes for my sisters and myself and you have become my new best friend! Edit: Two yrs later since I 'found' you and I'm still making these little bags. I originally made 2 for each of my sisters (glasses and makeup cases) and now I'm making for my daughter and grandchildren to store their cross stitch supplies in. These are just the most wonderful little gifts and I am so grateful that you took the time to share your talents with us.
You are the greatest instructor, Susan! I enjoy every single one of your projects. I owe you much appreciation for all the gifts I’ve been able to make friends and family. God bless you and your family.
Hi Miss Susan! Great video! What a cute, great gift idea! You have such a wonderful way of teaching all your techniques, and your videographer does a super job of coming in close to show us what we need to see! Thanks again for all your wonderful tutorials! I am always looking to see what you will come up with next! Thanks so much!
A ha I never thought of stating away from the top and reversing would stop those threads , Thankyou for that little snipping of info and I think it's genious to use an old measure .
I love this! I'm running to the nearest dollar store to get tape measures so I can make a bunch off these to use as name tags/gift toppers for Christmas. So happy this showed up on my feed! Thank you!
Made a couple of these tonight. I prefer your tutorial to the Riley Blake one. Your casing is better. Once I figured out which tape measure worked best (the narrower weaker one rather than the super strong wider one) I was happy with the result. I can see myself making more of these.
Thankyou for a no nonsense, well planned demo. I've watched several others that have driven me up the wall with the drivel they talk, the verbal errors, poor planning, all so totally amateurish. You have given a clear, concise demo, that is so refreshing to watch. THANKYOU. Lynne (Scotland)
I've watch several of your videos and just discovered this one, which is exactly what I needed! I was trying to find a way to build a similar small sized bag to hold a smartphone. Thank you!
I love this little pouch! I've watched several other snap pouch tutorials and this is by far the best. Thank you for your clear and easy to follow tutorial.
Hi Susan, I always smile when I watch your videos! You make sewing fun and your teaching methods have helped me grow. I've learned so much from your wonderful tutorials! Thank you so very much!
I live out in the sticks and thought I would have to order a clip online and wait impatiently until it was delivered. Now I just have to go to the dollar store and pick up a tape measure. Way cheaper and much faster. I am so pleased you shared your clever idea. I look forwardbtonatching morenof your videos. Dewey in Texas
I have watched several of your tutorials and enjoy them all very much - thanks so much!!!! For the mini snap bag, I stitched across the center mark of the bag (through all thicknesses) - from one long side to the other. This stitching line will be on the bottom of the bag. That stitching line helps to keep the fabric and batting together when you fold the bag right sides together and when you box the bottom. I look forward to watching more tutorials. They are very clear and inspirational.
An awesome idea, I love it. My husband recently asked if I could make some small bags to carry his smoking pipes in. I think these will work great, nice tidy little bags he can open easily and they'll stay closed. Thank you so much for sharing :-)
You are such a talented teacher i am lot for words. For a while now I thought about making little sewing projects on my own, but always lacked the knowledge and, more importantly, the courage to start, but your tutorials make sewing seem much less scary than I always thought it to be! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of sewing with us.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for taking the time to do these tutorials. I'm a newbie at sewing and quilting, and you have provided me with many videos to keep me learning. I'd never sew if it weren't for great people like you sharing, at no cost to me. (learning is expensive enough, with all of the mistakes I make! lol)
Your directions are so clear. If you can find METAL blinds you will have an almost endless source of "snaps" They work just great .I tried the plastic mini blinds but they didn't have enough snap.
Thanks Susan Claire for a great tutorial. I've just made two of these for Christmas gifts - one a mini snap bag to go with one of your zipper pouches in the same fabric. The second is a glasses case - that wasn't so easy to turn right side out but I got there. My metal tape snappers are fine but next time I might follow a poster's suggestion to double up. Also I overlocked/serged the side seams rather than zigzag.
Thank You for this idea. I have looked everywhere for the little snap-to coin purse. I like to carry this kind best. They can wear out over time and now I can make my own. Love this.
I bought a bag like this a couple of yrs ago & always wanted to learn to make them. Thanks to your video I finished my 1st one today. Not so neat on the edges so I'm calling it my sample. Thanks so much for your video!
Thank you for the great videos.....I already made one of your easy pillow cases, but these Mini Snap bags would be really cute with a favorite design embroidered on it.........and so personal. Having an embroidery machine...which I love, I am always looking for projects.
I had never seen the measuring tape ever used. What a great idea!! I must try it. Your instructions are wonderful and so easy to follow. Thank you for sharing your talents with so many of us.
A few days ago, I deconstructed my grandma's snap purse and it's exactly the same at yours.. She bought hers in Pakistan over 40years ago.. Thank you so much for sharing..
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have acquired a lot of fabric samples from a furniture store and this will be the perfect thing to make with them. You have a wonderful gift of sharing in very well shown details how to make things. Thanks.
Another great little video from a lovely lady. These are just what I'm looking for as I want to make reusable gift bags for Christmas presents this year (and for many years to come). Many many thanks :)
Hi Thank you so much for this detailed tutorial . This is the very first thing I have created on my first sewing machine which is barely a fortnight old. I could not manage the box base and will need to make a few more of these to perfect the finish but it’s turned out very pretty and neat.
Thank you for the video! I purchased a snappy purse a few years ago and have since wondered what the made the "snappy" part. I thought maybe slap bracelets but they are not very strong. Now I need to find an old steel tape and start making a few of these!
Thank you for this video. I love the idea of using the tape measure! I think I will use this technique to make myself a bandolier-style cellphone case. :)
I made the bag and love it! In order for it to close properly, I turned the tape the other way. Now it snaps shut and makes a fun crinkly noise. Love the videos......
Lovely! Have been looking for a pattern/idea for making a dog treat bag for my friend, and this fits the need perfectly! I will have to add a belt loop on the back and perhaps a small compartment on the front for "doggy-doo bags" with a buttonholed bottom to feed the bags through. It will have to be a slightly larger version, but thanks to your clear, concise instructions, this will be a...snap?! (Lol). Thank you ever so much for sharing!
Brilliant! Seriously - I'm going to stop on the way home for some sacrificial tape measures and make a bunch of these this weekend. It's just the season for little gifts and for charity craft sales and such. I think I'll make some longer ones as eyeglass holders and some just the size to hold a gift card. You are such fun to watch and clever!!! And what a great way to use some really fun novelties fabrics!
What a brilliant idea! Believe I am going to make this to coordinate with your "simple bag" and fill with goodies for this holiday season. Thank you. I always thoroughly enjoy, and learn from, your tutorials.
My husband never throws anything away. I bet he's got a few tape measures that the springs have quit working in. I could clean them up and use them. This is a really good tutorial and this little bag is just as cute as a button.
So brilliant. Can't wait to make this. And so clever to use a metal tape measure for the top. Great for Christmas and birthday pressies. Thank you so much. Very well filmed and explained too.
I love this. You are such a good teacher and you are fun to watch too. I am also going to make a mug rug that I saw on one of your tutorials. Very cool.
Its a cute little snap pouch !!! I will make one soon.Your instructions and demo are superb !!! Your work is very neat and clean Madam !! Loved the video.
Thank you - I’d heard of using those tape measures to make a purse but never saw it done! 7:19 “Don’t go getting carried away…” 🤣 It’s easy to get carried away when sewing!
Awesome tutorial and so easy to understand and follow. Thank you for sharing your sewing ideas with us :) Look forward to following you and watching more of your tutorials...
Awesome...I actually forgot that I put my hand up to make a case for a friend's father. It's meant to be a Christmas present, so it was fortunate I stumbled onto your video...but it's funny because it looked familiar. Thanks for sharing and I had better shake a leg as the case needs to go up to the UK, soonish!🙂
A solution for all of my holiday gift-giving this year. Thank you for such simple, precise instructions. I love learning from you.
Thank you for a clear instructional tutorial. I made several of these as gifts, & people were very appreciative

Using the measuring tape is BRILLIANT!!!!!!
Thank you for NOT WEARING LOUD DISTRACTING fingernail polish, and tons of jewelry!!! This is great. Thanks.

Genius! Using a measuring tape from the dollar store. Thankyou so much for this tutorial.
Because it is so easy to open, no zip to get stuck, it is ideal for asthma inhalers together with allergy pills, etc. Thank you it is so useful.
Super! Thank you for another great tutorial. Just bought a cheapie measuring tape and am ready to make a big batch of these!
