Even the simple fact that a villain is willing to hurt innocent people and the one instigating the conflict are advantageous enough to be a threat while not having any superpowers at all. Add even a weaker speedster power with a few new techniques for Barry to figure out, and that would be more than enough to make the conflict entertaining. Add something more, like actual planning and superior intellect and it will only get better. If the antagonist is a non speedster then either let them have a power that can interfere with Barry's powers, make him ess effective or something like that. If the antagonist doesnt have any of that, they dont qualify as an antagonist and should be either taken down immediately, or maybe even offscreened. Why? Cause no matter what you do with them, they will either be annoying, boring, or worse - both. You can have such villains as comic relief characters, but not as serious antagonists that have actual screentime.
Why the criteria are so strict? Cause Barry's superspeed breaks and exploits physics, while also providing him with multiple other bullshit advantages (bullshit reaction speed, healing factor, thought acceleration, etc.). Its a top tier power package, so by default the enemies HAVE to be top tier threats as well, not just some guy who can make a mini hurricane.

But if the powers of your protagonist are so all over the place that you can't predict how even a single one of those encounter plays out, because the power is dependent on what the writer needs at that point in time, there is absolute no tension especially in a series where almost all conflicts are solved through "super-power"-battles.

It's hard for me to understand how you can have scenes in a story, have characters blatantly forget their powers to fulfill the plot points they want, and still have proper stakes. I could totally understand if a fight scene is nonsensical but the outcome is the same (for example, you could say that the luke vs darth vader fight isnt well choreographed, but it's logical that vader wins). But in flash, whoever wins seems almost entirely arbitrary and based on the writer's whims. I'm trying to understand how to properly enjoy the show with this in mind, even in season 1 and 2.

Barry always has a 5 minute talk with some random meta with normal human reaction time and he still somehow loses. Like if he took a meta power dampening cuff, put it on the meta and then started talking i would understand but nooooo. Not to mention he makes the most stupid decisions despite him being able to think in flash time which by the way can make seconds into hours for barry at minimum. Heck, in comics, barry and wally can count in attosecond time frames which means a second to a human is equivalent to 31 billion years for barry and wally. I was in 4th grade when The Flash first aired. I remember hyping up to watch it weeks before the release and then settling in the living room every tuesday night to watch it, and then talk about the episode the next day with my best friend. I absolutely loved the show. Season 1 - 4th grade. Season 2 - 5th grade. Season 3 - 6th grade. I loved the show, and so did my best friend since kindergarten. Starting in 7th grade, I began to drift from my best friend and this show started to become progressively bad. The Flash had been a huge part of my life and was one of my favorite things in the world. I stopped having anyone to talk to about it, and watched through season 4 alone. Then came season 5. It sucked, and said friend and I have completely drifted. When season 6 aired, I had no desire what so ever to watch it. Mostly because the previous seasons sucked, but also because I associated The Flash with my best friend and our memories. I managed to watch 3 episodes of the 6th season on Netflix and laughed at how bad it was, but was happy because I felt a twinge of glee thinking about the actors who made part of my childhood and my best friend who i shared those memories with.

Eric Wallace has admitted that when he first came on to the show in Season 4, there were a bunch of new writers that came along with him. You can see Eric slowly replacing Todd's role on the show even ever since S4, as he was part of the writing team and wrote a couple of key episodes, then became an executive producer in S5 and after that, became the sole executive producer AKA the showrunner in S6. The writing is on the wall. Todd Helbing has done so good at Superman & Lois, and he wrote a very very good black character in John Henry Irons. Race isn't the issue here, it's a matter of competence or lack thereof.

I mean, The Flash as a media installment is over 80 years old , so there is a lot of source material and now and than a capable writer made some good storylines and characters for the comic. Hence "the good ideas" the CW Flash show tries to adapt but fails horribly at translating a comic book to an enjoyable TV show. The showwriters are bad, the channel they publish it for probably commands silly stuff yet has little money to spare for higher quality superhero effect stuff and let's be honest, with the execption of very few actors/actresses, the show struggles to get good people.

You gotta understand that the fight scenes being poorly written doesn't just affect those scenes, they have an effect on the entire show because a majority of episodes in the Flash are just a villain of the week story. So if the villain isn't convincing as an antagonist, then the main conflict of the episode doesn't make sense. A villain that Madvocate really hammered this home with was Captain Cold, because as Madvocate says, "he's just a guy with a gun", which is someone who Barry should be able to take down with ease. Yet, he doesn't and Captain Cold goes on to serve as a villain for like 4 episodes in season 1 despite the fact that he should've been captured in his first appearance. These bad fight scenes make it feel as if a majority of the episodes in the show shouldn't have happened, which of course, negatively affects the story.

And Thawne's changing time is shown to be wrong with him admitting that him changing time is selfish and only for his benefit. Whereas Barry has gone from the hero who protected the innocent he was in Season 1 and 2 to a selfish horny prick who only cares about saving Iris. And despite Barry's time changes being just as selfish as Thawne's he was portrayed as heroic and selfless for going back to save his mother when he wasn't.

I genuinely hate what they did with the forces in the show, psych is now just a cringe version of freddy krueger, fuerza is just a damsel in distress and they replaced steadfast with deon. Bro wtf. Fuerza was a badass hero who protected her people against the corrupt government of her country, psych was a bad ass criminal who was a god gambler and a powerful villain in the sort of crime hierarchy and Steadfast was an awesome ally of the flash who also had a cool mystical element to his personality, now Fuerza is a scared girl with amnesia who sometimes turns into an albino hulk, Psych is now a cringe villain with a clunky suit who’s only power is fear or some shit and “Deon” is a scared kid who’s so insecure he just plays god and doesn’t seek help.
After that, they instantly become good guys and talk like it's a horrible sibling fetish video on Pornhub. "Hello sister", like fr stfu. (BTW love the Ryan George reference lol).

When I look back (fondly) on Season 1, I realise that it is the nostalgia of it that is what makes me remember it fondly (and I hate nostalgia being used as an argument). The season used a lot of 'mystery box' to drum up intrigue, dropping lots of hints at the deeper story to come. And they worked, because the first time we saw Reverse Flash in the present, the first time we saw Grodd, these were fun and exciting. But the story wasn't that great in the end (it was predictable and stupid in places), and if you rewatch it, it isn't as good, because not only do you know what is coming, the characters have been done to death.
For example, when Grodd pitched up in Season 2, was it as exciting as it was in the 1st season? What about in Season 3? Diminishing returns, right? And you said that yourself with Eobard once again turning up. They should have left him out after the Black Flash erased him, ever since then it has just been stupid that he keeps turning up wearing Tom Cavanagh's face with some dumb excuse as to why he is still alive and why he isn't wearing his real face.

It’s gotten to the point I’ll miss weeks, skip parts of the show or just not care. A show you enjoy shouldnt be that way at all. It’s so sad. Cause I think Grant is genuinely great but isn’t given great material. Barry is just a terrible character at this point and the supporting cast has fell off so hard. The new writers should have modeled the newer material off of what the old writers did. I mean seriously, why would you so drastically change the way you make a show if it’s clear that the entire audience loves it how it already is? The flash used to be a show full of cinematic action sequences, incredible music, intense drama and a moving and emotional story with high stakes involved. Now the show is just so bland, the choices the characters make just make zero sense and Barry feels like a side character in his own show. Even practical things such as the camera angles and the lighting just feel off and don’t give the flash that feeling that it used to have.

One argument I would make surrounding the importance of fight scenes, and their logistics, is that the fact that they are so bad isn't there just to make fun of the fights themselves, but it also serves to showcase that, because the writers wrote all those fight scenes so badly, so many things happened (that did NOT have to happen, nor did it make sense for them to happen), thus actively ruining the story of the show.
Because when you write a superfast character, and then have him use the superspeed in the dumbest ways possible (except when he doesn't use it at all), you'll end up prolonging the escape of villains that should've been caught, you'll cause the death of characters that should be alive, and, eventually, you'll have Barry in shit so fucking deep that he'd wish he just died with his mom instead of having to gurgle it, and, essentially, all the shitty writing of those fights (or any situation where "Barry SHOULD do this, but he's not doing it, because if he did, the viewers would realize that not a single one of these situations is actually a threat or a problem") makes the story suffer, both immediately and in the long run. (pun intended)
But I also understand being sick of having to suffer a stroke whenever you witness this shitty writing in any of those situations, thus deciding to just not care about it in the first place.

I think at this point if everyone just accepts that this is a "Flash family team up show" and less of a show about a singular hero going through trials and tribulations to grow stronger, you'll enjoy it more. which, tbh, the show has pretty much been since around S3 when Wally and Jesse were introduced as speedsters and they framed it like Wally would defeat Savitar (even though he never did). it's way easier to do that now as well, considering the whole "My name is Barry Allen" thing isn't even the intro for the show anymore, and instead just a montage of all the characters and snippets from moments in the show's history.

I agree completely with this comment. That mentality carried me as far as the beginning of season 6. The problem is, the show STILL keeps getting worse and worse, and even I, who likes bad shows or movies, couldn't take it anymore.

The problem with how the flash presents talk no jutsu is that the writers don't understand what makes that concept work in the first place.
When Naruto used talk no jutsu it was always AFTER he defeated his enemies. Naruto had ideals which always conflicted with his villains. But he never tried to change their minds mid battle.
He did so after he bested them which is how you win an argument in that verse because ur words are empty if you don't have the strength to act on it.
Flash will literally try to change his villains mind mid battle and it comes off incredibly jarring

I mean, you can do it mid-battle, cause Spider-Man is a Character who had used "Talk no Jutsu" and it never felt stupid, it always made sense within the story and enhanced the Battle. An Example would be in Marvel's Spider-Man in the final battle against Doctor Octopus.
Another example can also be done where The Main Character gets defeated, and because the motivation of the villain is an ideological motive, the MC talks to them to give them their perspective on the Matter.

Baligong Spider-Man's instances of trying to talk down his villains are miles better than the Flash's Talk No Jutsu because
      1. Most of the villains he tries to talk down are those that are close to him on a personal level. Doctor Octopus from Marvel's Spider Man was his mentor, idol, and father figure. Eddie Brock from Spectacular Spider-Man was his oldest friend and practically his older brother, etc.
      2. He knows when to stop talking and fight. In Marvel's Spider Man, it was when Doctor Octopus revealed he knew his identity the whole time and thus fully knew he was hurting his beloved pupil who he saw as a son. In The Spectacular Spider-Man, it was when Eddie became Venom and Peter, having experienced the symbiote's corruptive influence before, understandably sympathized and tried to save Eddie despite the latter actively putting Gwen's life in danger at the time. But he gave up on trying to talk him down when Eddie established that he was in control and had always secretly resented Peter for having a better life despite similar past circumstances and focused all his effort on saving Gwen.

All things considered, I really loved the super thinking Barry. They should've kept him that way and as a side product, it wouldn't render "Wellses'es" sacrifice completely useless just an episode later.
Also - They are using, Eobard's character to keep audience from giving up on this show. This strategy only ends terribly. It only diminishes the remaining brand value.

The thing I find most annoying is that they let every murderous villain reform while any villain that actually didn't want to be bad never was given the option to
