What is up CZcams, my name is Gio, and much like Barry Allen is doomed to keep messing up the timeline, I’m cursed to constantly make videos about this show until it dies in a whimper. After a long wait we are finally talking about Season 7 of the Flash, which may possibly be the worst season of a comic book television series I have ever seen. Never before has a show taken a more drastic nose dive in quality. At least with Batwoman I didn’t expect much, the bar wasn’t high, but The Flash should be better, it has had amazing seasons before, and even within the bad ones they have at least a handful of solid episodes in it. However, season 7 takes all the good faith left with the show and proceeds to beat it down faster than what I do in my spare time. You may be wonder how bad can season 7 really be and can the Flash season 8 be saved it it's crossover, The Flash Armageddon. Well sit back as I explain why The Flash Season 7 is WORSE Than You Remember.

I hated how Godspeed, who in the comics starts out as Barry's friend who after a murderer kills his brother tracks said killer down and kills him and becomes an extreme vigilante who tries to convince Barry he should kill the worst criminals. But in the show he's just generic "I will be the fastest muhahahaha."

The Flash's main enemies in the comics have one of a handful of methods of combating him:
Slowing him down through some external means
Forcing HIM to slow down through some means
    Preventing him from slowing down
    Outthinking him
The fact they gave him speed force enhanced brainwaves basically removes three of these weaknesses, meaning that the only way to beat him is to make him slower than the bad guy.

I definitely agree that the forces are not Barry's kids, cause putting into consideration your points of evidence, the only thing Barry and Iris did was merge an already existing vessel, to a prehistoric element of nature. They didn't create them out of nowhere. Not to mention, Joe clearly said "You brought them into this world". So what is that supposed to mean? If Barry brings someone from another dimension or something into Earth prime, then that person would be Barry's child? LMAO. Barry brought them, he didn't create them. Even in science, you could at least treat robots and stuff that you create as your "children", but all Barry did was bring the forces to physical existence, almost like discovering what already exist. Claiming parental rights over someone/something that you did not even create is just dumb.

The big problem with season 7 is dialogue, turning something metaphorical (the forces as “kids) and making it literal. I honestly still hate seasons 4 and 5 more than 7 but that's because I can just roll my eyes when cringe happens. It doesn't trigger me no matter what I'm watching. My only real complaint was the three straight filler episodes. Filler won't be a problem in season eight because minus the crossover they only have 13 episodes.

One thing i must add: You can also put Agents of Shield as a example of how to use various story arcs in one season, season 4 used 3 story arcs, each one telling a diferent story, the first one was about Ghost Rider, the second one was about robots replacing people and the third one was about being in a virtual reality.
And guess what? Not only these arcs have a connective tissue than joins them together but also the placement of each arc leads to the next and most importantly, the ending serves as a pay off of these three diferent arcs in a satisfactory way.

But yeah, I'm with you in there. In my opinion season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.l.D. is the best structured season of any existing show, or at least of those that i ever watched. Not only they managed to do a 22 episode season without any fillers, thanks to the 3 arcs story progression, but they also managed to connect those arcs while clearly being able to distinct them as 3 separate stories and managed to do a conclusive ending for all 3 arcs in a final episode.

The Flash really was my favorite show, but the problem this season had is that stakes and consistency don't matter anymore as 10:51 proves. I loved the fact that Flash was evolving with his "speed thinking" ability (which he has in comics) and finally becoming a protagonist that can stand for himself. But being "too logical" and "losing emotions" being the reasons that Barry lost this ability made me groan. Superman is a character with thought that's emotional. But he's not an idiot. Flash CAN be a logical character with emotions(hell, most detectives in fiction- L. Lawlet, Sherlock Holmes, and Batman have emotions as their flaws[paranoia is an emotion, Batman fans]and they're incredibly smart people).
But tbh, I think the writers realized Flash coming out of his shell meant Cisco, Caitlin, and the rest of team Flash would be useless 🤔

32:55 One thing regarding the 'Forces Arc' that makes limiting it to a handful episodes even worse is that, in the comics, the overall storyline is way more complex, and part of it even tied into Scott Snyder's JL run (as the 'Still Force' is one of the 'Negative Forces' shown in his run). On the top of all of that, I'm quite sure it wasn't even finished yet by the time S7 writing began!

And then when Legends of Tomorrow started being listed in things like "Best shows on tv" by popular publications it seems The Flash just decided to go all in on the comedy from season 4 onwards but without writers or characters that were really equipped for it and it's been a downward spiral since.
Don't get me wrong the show has SO MANY problems but I just don't think the show is funny enough to get away with a crap story. I mean even meh episodes of Legends story wise are watchable because the writers and cast have got the comedy nailed down and just watching the cast interact is a lot of fun, with The Flash it's just Barry Allen and his bunch of boring episode padding.

Since the comics introduced Godspeed with The new 52 I’ve been waiting for the force storm that made a bunch of new speedsters, every time there was a crazy lightning storm on the show I thought, “this is it, it’s finally happening”, the way they handled Godspeed was total garbage. Giving Barry a bunch of rookie speedsters to baby sit could have been a good way to raise stakes again and having Godspeed kill the new speedsters to steal their speed would have made him a credible threat on the levels of Eobard Thawn, the CW flash writers never understood the assignment, it’s like they watched the movie instead of reading the book for their report

A small nitpick: According to the rules of this universe, you absolutely CAN create a flashpoint by going forward in time! If you go forward in time, you will probably learn something from the future. So once you go back to your time, this knowledge you otherwise would not have will change the timeline! So the flashpoint will be experienced for the people in the future, just not for Barry and the "current" timeline.
Now you might be thinking, "Well then he could just not tell anyone what he learned or do anything differently than the original timeline!". My response would be, how would he know what he's doing is different from the original timeline? Imagine having to second-guess every decision you make because it might cause a flashpoint for your future children, without ever knowing which decision will be the one that does it! The only way to for sure prevent a flashpoint for future people is to not go into the future at all.

    @duyanhpham1978 Před 2 lety +4

I just re-watched Season 7 and it really is the worst Flash season.
I can think of several reasons:
    - There were no actual main villains. This season tried to finish the Mirror Monarch arc only on due to COVID, which I understand and wanted to get it over with, but instead of having one concrete main villain that leaves their own presence throughout the seasons, the showrunners introduced 2 clumsily written villains: The Speed Force and Godspeed. The Speed Force as a villain felt extremely forced, and Godspeed was a straight up Power Rangers villain who had to real incentive other than "me want more speed". As a result, not only were we left with a disjointed season, but a disjointed season with terrible low stakes villains.
    - Wells and Cisco's departure. I think in the Flash team, Cisco and variations of Wells are the only consistently good members. The actors are phenomenal (especially Tom Cavanaugh). Seeing them leave the team left me empty. Caitlyn is not even Caitlyn anymore, we got left with an Iris 2.0 and Chester P. Runk (who is kinda ok). The team dynamic in this season was broken very early on. This season is basically confirmation that Barry doesn't need Star Labs anymore.
    - The tension was oddly extremely low-stakes in this season. Barry has seemingly achieved whatever he wanted now (even his confidence and full Speed Force powers in the finale. The writing oddly depicted every problems in almost every episode in this season not as stressful as the previous ones, or we as audiences already guess the episode structure already.
    - The formula got so old, predictable and repetitive that no one cares anymore.

The show lost me when they made Iris smarter than Caitlyn and Felicity. Now if were about fashion, sure, hands down with her fine behind. But with problem solving? They lost me. The show was actually doom from the jump when they made Iris and Barry siblings. And, oh yeah, the first actual flashpoint was when the reverse flash killed Barry's mom, which altered how he got his powers and why Eobard ended causing Barry to get his powers and training him to use them. One question was never answered, that's been bugging me, whatever happened to the original flash? The flash that saved Barry as a child, he would have been stuck there as well because both speedsters were pulling on the speedforce, which was the reason I thought kept Eobard stuck there.

He left as soon as he pulled young Barry out of RF's way, I guess. The question is why RF loses his powers more or less instantly after messing up the timeline but keeps his memories of his future, but Flash causes his own Flashpoint in Season 3 and then chills in his new timeline for an entire summer but it's only in S3E1 do we see him losing his powers and his memories of the previous timeline.
Bonus on Barry and Iris being siblings from the jump; the Flashpoint timeline proves he only loves her because they're foster siblings living in the same house. The Wests aren't remotely friends with the Allens in Flashpoint, Iris doesn't even know Barry's name when he tries to talk to her, Joe questions Barry's concern for him in that timeline because they don't know each other, and when Barry is breaking the news to his parents about finally asking her out, Nora and Henry straight up treat it like he's been stalking her for months while he's been living in their basement. So the Barry that existed in that Flashpoint before Pre-FP Barry hijacked his brain/body (or murdered him on some Another Me shit) had no interest in Iris, otherwise this wouldn't be a new development for Nora and Henry.

The thing is everyone was effect by Dark Matter the night of the partical excelator blew up.
It sent Dark Matter out across the entire city hitting every single person.
So even though Iris didnt get powers she was still effected by it. Meaning that she can she can still do things as long as an outside source is the cause. I think the same can be said for every single person in Central City.
As for Camila not being able to do the same, she was brought into the mirror dimension through the use of the mirror gun, not being directly dragged into it like Iris was.
EDIT 1 (might be more but i dont want to wait to the end of the video to comment on them because i might forget and dont want to give a second view lol)
What Barry was talking about is going to the future and coming back with knowledge of what happens and changes thing in essence creating a third Flashpoint (first one was when he went back in the during the fight with weather wizard and stopping him to soon and changing the time line ( yes it saved Cisico so it was okay ) so it made a Flashpoint in a way ).
    EDIT 2
The reason why so many Earths were combined when Earth Prime was created was not just because of Oliver but because of the 7 chosen Heros as well, so all their earths were combined. The reason why Jay Garrick and his wife survived is because Barry's parents were dead and they were doplegangers of them so their was no other version of them alive on Barry's Earth when crisis happened. The only reason that Harrison Wells got revived the way he did was because Nash and every other wells was killed off.

    @callmev3531 Před 2 lety +10

I apologize profusely for the length of this comment.
5:36, If I remember correctly from Season 3, the problem established for going to the future was not being able to predict what you’d see when you got there. “A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.” and all that.
Much of Season 3 revolves around Barry seeing an out of context moment from the future where Savitar stabs and kills who appears to be Iris in front of his future self and returns to his present determined to prevent this moment, only for it to happen anyway either regardless of or partly as a result of the actions he and the team took to prevent it (whether or not the Harrison Wells doppelgänger was disguised as Iris originally or because of the teams knowledge of the event ahead of time is unclear).
On top of that, if he changed an event in the future, he may not be causing a deviation in the part of the timeline, but he’d still be causing changes to the timeline in ways he wouldn’t be able to predict just as he did in Flashpoint, something that his kids do bring up when they arrive. The only difference would be that new Flashpoint would be on a later part of the timeline and therefore ostensibly have no effect on his present or his allies (unless a threat from the altered future he created were to arrive in his present), which was the main reason he doesn’t want to try and change things that happen in the present after witnessing all the horrible and unpredictable things unleashed from that decision, like Cisco’s brother dying or the creation of the Savitar paradox.
Either way, the show has long since lost its edge. The most positivity I can give is the look of the Speed Force’s lightning and some of the other special effects. Just sets something off in my monkey brain.
14:57, The Speed Force blades weren’t what bothered me personally. The cool but unnecessary involvement from Thawne in the episode was a much larger issue. We’ve seen Godspeed’s tech shown to be powerful enough to somehow combat the Speed Force embodiment and allow him and his duplicates to absorb Speed Force energy with their suits, which additionally diminishes the idea that it is this all-powerful force of nature, just as it's not being able to save Barry from Bloodwork, it dying, and it not being able to simply take away Godspeed’s power completely. However, Barry has an entire group of allied speedsters that have been personally amplified in capability by the Speed Force embodiment (as well as the other Forces) while Godspeed and Thawne have no such benefit, with the former’s suit admittedly being a believable counter to Barry’s powers as it can absorb it. But instead of Barry relying on the rest of his team to help overwhelm and gang up on this lone speedster, he summons Thawne, who even if the Speed Force embodiment somehow boosted to be able to keep up with Godspeed…......is still Thawne, the man who killed his mother, endangered and threatened his friends and family, led to the deaths of Eddie and Ronnie, sided with Nazi’s from another dimension, led to the erasure of a future version of his daughter after having manipulated her into using the Negative Speed Force, and if just let go, (as Barry does in this episode) can and will cause him and everyone close to him trouble as long as he exists.
And that doesn't even cover the one time he used magic to rewrite reality for a bit.
I ignore the whole Speed Force Constructs since of course by now Barry and every other speedster has grown so much more advanced in their powers, especially considering the Speed Force personally boosting them even further beyond as if she’s and the other characters are in Dragon Ball. For a while now, the show has been having speedsters gain new and impressive techniques (namely Speed Force constructs) either off-screen or simply without much focus being on their discovery. As perhaps not as exciting as, it's simply how the show handles these powers now. But you’re right in the sense that other than it being cool and surprising, it’s only there to add something new and fresh to a speedster fight rather than being necessary or making sense. They can just break and cut through things while their hands are vibrating after all.
It’s not like in FX’s Marvel show Legion, where psychics (who are just that shows version of speedsters complete with their own Speed Force dimension called the Astral Plane) can use their mind powers to fight in an ungodly amount of different and unique ways limited only by their imagination, from turning into shapeshifting ghosts that appear as anything from a samurai to a Boeing AH-64 Apache
Attack Helicopter…….to rap and dance battles.
That’s right…..they can fight and kill you and practically destroy your mind…….by insulting you in rhyme.
From the early looks of Season 8, they at least have an interesting hook with the mystery surrounding Barry's supposed future turn (which is likely just going to be Thawne using his face), so there's that.

Man I can list a lot of things wrong with season 7 and the show entire:
    1. Barry isn't the main character: What is Barry's storyline this season? What was his character development. Hell, there are episodes where Barry's completely missing. How can a show called 'The Flash' rarely feature THE FLASH. Barry is literally no existent these days.
    2. Too many side character-centred episodes: We've had episodes dedicated to Killer Frost, Cecile, and then Allegra WHO TF CARES?! Sure, you can have some story to build these characters but The Flash should not be an ensemble show. Again, Barry is the main focus.
    3. Graphic novel structuring: The structure of this season is all over the place. We had 9 episodes for the Forces storyline. Now 3-4 episodes of 'interlude' and filler? And then we've only got 4 episodes left for the Godspeed arc. Super inconsistent this season.
    4. Pep talks. Pep talks. AND MORE PEP TALKS: The drama feels so forced because every character needs a pep talk to progress the episode along, even the villains. This is just a super lazy form of storytelling that I wish all CW shows, not just The Flash, would stop doing.
Barry rarely uses/explores his powers: When was the last time Barry threw lightning? Or a super sonic punch? Or anything cool like that. Nowadays, Barry's speed is just used to run people around and some episodes, never uses his powers altogether. This is what people came for right- the superhero element??
    5. Tone is VERY INCONSISTENT: Cisco's farewell episode featured a breakdancing Barry and a super silly sitcom-like villain. And Cecile's episode delved into mental health and depression. This show is bordering between a comedy and a CW drama, and it just feels super hard to get attached to.
    6. The villains suck: SpeedForce Nora sucked. The villains of the week are just pathetic. And I wish the show would stop gender-swapping their classic villains. I usually don't have a problem with it when it serves the story (eg. The Top as a woman and the right hand to Mirror Master), but the Turtle 2.0 felt very forced.
    7. Lazy storytelling: Cisco's Book of Big-Bads is so laughably stupid. All the scientific explanations seem so half-arsed these days they don't even make sense anymore. At least in Season 1, the average viewer could somewhat follow and understand what was going on.

    • @ZentoBrinebg
      @ZentoBrinebg Před 2 lety +1

the point of Barry not using his powers is the worst for me. I started watching the flash because, outside of comics, he's rarely used, and for obvious reasons. You have Batman, a relatively normal dude who could get shot and die. You have Superman, a literal God walking among humans trying to live a life and protect them. All pretty easy characters to write a story about. Then you get to the Flash. Simply put, the flash is also a straight up God. What makes it different than Supes tho, is that his incredible power isn't just, being Super in every way. His borderline divinity comes with the clever uses his powers come with (time literally freezing at the speed of light, going faster than any other natural force could affect him, etc ). He's a very high risk-high reward character to write, if you fuck up you fuck up HARD (see all the stupid ways he's killed off or disabled so the writers don't have to deal with his OP-ness), but if you write an interesting conflict for him it's top tier superhero content. Flashpoint (in the comics at least) and the flashtime episode are examples of the latter. You don't nerf Barry into the ground, but the scenario he's in is tricky to solve. That's how to make a good flash conflict - outside the box conflict, as any regular problem could be solved with Barry zapping away the big bad in a second. And the CW sadly uses the "disable Barry in the stupidest way possible" thing, while also giving us the occasional cool moment to keep us in, which imo only makes it worse as it reminds you that Barry could be doing so many interesting things but just, doesn't. The finale where he shows off how much faster he is than Thawne is fucking stupid, why flex how "cool and fast" Barry is if he NEVER USES SAID SPEED. it's just rubbing salt in the would

Okay, now that I've watched your video, I'd like to give my thoughts on some of the topics you addressed, as well as giving some possible critiques of my own.
    1. I always took that line about creating another Flashpoint to mean that Barry would be changing the future Nora was living in, thus creating a Flashpoint for *her*, not for *him*.
    2. Jay Garrick and Joan Williams are the doppelgangers of Barry's parents, but their doppelgangers are dead, so they can exist on Earth Prime. Same reason that John Henry Irons can exist on Earth Prime now. His doppelganger is dead.
    3. To me, the reason that Barry talked Abra Kadabra down was because he knew that he couldn't beat Abra in a straight fight. So to me, the talk makes sense. I don't have an explanation for the Eva or Force talks though.
    4. Definitely agree with your idea to have introduced Alexa earlier and treat her powers like an addiction. Could definitely have made her a more interesting and compelling character, and could lead to the Speed Force turning. Very good idea.
And now, for my own seasonal critiques.
I think that the order the seasons were done in was a massive issue. Imagine if the arcs were moved around to have Godspeed be the leadin to the Force Quest arc. Suddenly, the stakes seem a lot higher because the Force arc threatens to destroy the world. Plus, now we can build up Alexa Rivera for a lot longer during the Godspeed arc than we could've during the Force Arc.
I actually really like that the writers split up Caitlin and Frost. It was pretty clear that they were building towards her getting a plotline about her learning to live her life. And in theory, Frost getting a love interest actually aligns with that potential plotline really well. I just think they dropped the ball big time by making Chillblaine the most *unbearable* character the show's introduced in a while.
Allegra needs to either die, or be written off. Fuck this character. She wasn't thst bad during season 6, but now she's a main member of Team Flash? Dude, nobody likes this character!
The fact that they killed Nash Wells was dumb and unnecessary. I understand that Tom wanted to leave the show, but he could've left without them killing his character. AND it would get Allegra off the show too since they could be written off together.
And that's really all the major stuff I can think to talk about. Still curious about your opinion on Stargirl, plus I did have some good points in favor of Flash season 6 on your "Character Case" video (which was really well done by the way).
