How to Help a Sick Budgie

- Hello Buddies,
A sick budgie always needs to visit an avian vet first, this video is intended for those who are not capable of getting their budgies to a vet!
Please note that I have provided the most efficient ways of caring and helping a sick budgie, but sometimes it doesn't matter how hard we try, and we might just lose them.
*When you'll hold your budgie for the treatments, please hold it under a paper-towel when its head is exposed and its body is covered, don't apply pressure as you can kill it by suffocating while squeezing its chest.
/ PEDIALYTE /
Please follow the following recipe for homemade pedialyte:
1 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 baking soda
1 tbsp honey
Optional: Coconut water that is 100% organic and free from any additives. *NOT COCONUT MILK, NOT COCONUT OIL.
Provide pedialyte morning and evening, two drops each time for 2 days or until your budgie drinks on its own.
/ PROBIOTICS /
Provide only regular probiotics, not enhanced ones.
Break a capsule and use only a quarter of the powder, dissolve into 1ml of water and let your budgie drink three drops of water once a day for three days or until you see improvements in their droppings.

Our budgie started showing signs of sickness. At first we thought maybe he hurt his claw but then he stopped eating and drinking, started hanging out on the bottom of the cage and progressively became more weak, often times losing his balance when trying to move. He also was lethargic and eventually developed diarrhea. After about a day and a half I decided to look for home remedies as taking him to a vet wasnât possible. I found this video and did the pedialyte, probiotic, blanket and warm lamp nearby. I also separated him from the other bird and put him in a small cage with no wire bottom. Within 2 hours he perked up and started eating his seed again. Within 6 hours he was able to sit on his perch but still a little wobbly. I repeated the pedialyte and probiotics 10 hours later and so far heâs doing well. I almost gave up and thought he would just pass away but this saved him! Thank you

My new budgie got sick, and its my fault since i didnt change her water in time. They tend to poop in it, and then drink from it. This is a reminder to change your budgies water multiple times a day. I hope my baby makes it â€

I wished I knew these tips earlier! My budgie died due to dehydration and starvation. It was the first time I had a budgie and I didnât realize the symptoms till the day he died. :(

I called a bunch of vets before I found one in another town with an opening a week away. There aren't a lot of places nearby that take birds. And I'm looking up tips to get him through to be seen. Thanks for this. I don't want to lose my chirpy baby.

Thank you so much for this. My budgie got sick on New Year's weekend when everything was closed, and I was unable to drive to an emergency vet due to my own disability. I'm certain this is what kept her alive until we could make it to our closest vet. Its still a little uncertain if she'll pull through, but given that she's already shown a lot of improvement just with the home remedies, I have hope.

thank you. i tried the pedialyte thing and just gave it to my bird. however, something that really helps is just putting your budgiesomewhere warm , and not stress him. made him feel miles better.

Sadly my budgie passed away 3 days ago he was just in one foot i went to the vet and he said atibiotics are the best in this situation he gaved me a small bag of those antibiotics and 2 weeks she was feeling ok but after 3 weeks, friday exactly 1 month when she was in 1 feet he was very very weak and i tried everything i ran to a bird vet and he said that there is are no chanses for her to last 1 more day and sunday morning 1 month when he was the most affected.. sadly she passed away.I will never forget you my life đđ

Sadly I impulse bought my budgies,with a very small cage and no toysđđđđ
But now they live in a pretty big cage, are outside for 2-3 hours everyday,but sadly no vet here...

I am very sad to say that , we lost a adorable budgie due to our neglect and not seeing this video, for three years he was our family member, uttering sĂČ many words , and consoling us when we were sad , because of his color we called him BLU , now he is resting in a pot containing a Jasmine plant , we miss BLU , rest in peace

Sadly where I live thereâs no avian vets nearby. The vets never me do cats, dogs and reptiles. They see reptiles but not birds đ

My budgie was bobbing his head all day for the first time ever and next day in the morning he was dead, this was very sad.

This was very helpful to know I just got two new budgies and one has perfect droppings. The other one seems to expel a very long dropping that sometimes doesnât drop onto the bottom of the cage without the bird, freeing it and it is four times the size of the other birds droppings, should I be concerned?
We have an Avian vet a hour and a half away from our house but itâs the only one around so when our birds get sick we take them there. (Itâs a very good vet)

I'm planning to rescue 2 poor budgies from a small market selling cigarettes and pet food where the lady told me they were on sale...The poor babies must have inhaled a lot of cigarettes. the cage was in a dark place, so dirty and small! Yes, an adult budgie will always have a royal blue cere, unless he is an albino or latino
Male budgies have pink cere when they are young
purple cere when growing
and blue cere when mature
What color are female budgies cere?

Today i've noticed some signs that my budgie is showing recently.
Is it sick or something?
1. She didn't drank for more than 4 days.
2. She stays silent.
3. She stays at one perch, one place all day.
4. She closes her eyes until she heards some noise.
5. Weight Loss.
6. She increased the amount of Veggies Consumption.
Is she okay or is she sick or is any disease has been progressed?

My budgie is hunched over compared to her friends we got somewhere else. Is this concerning? She doesnât stay at the bottom of the cage, still perches, just looks like a scavenging vulture hunched over her prey. She keeps her feathers and vent clean. She is now midway through molting season. Iâm giving extra light from a sunlamp now and have given three separate weekly doses of vitamin D in their food as well. Is it normal for different types of budgies to hunch? Or could she have possibly ⊠a skeletal disease? Iâm grasping at straws here but hope she is comfortable. đ€
I have tried everything i could , from paying a visit to an avian vet to help my budgie myself by giving it syrup prescribed by vet and also forcing it to sip some water when it was choking or acting to swallow food through its throat for like 24 hours . But in the end it died unfortunately . Dont know the cause of illness but symptoms were ' shivering wings ' being fluffy ' sleepy eyes all the time ' being extremely inactive and unable to fly ' and yes the green water droppings with messy vent area ' .
