CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Reggie (Eddie Murphy) and Jack (Nick Nolte) catch Luther (David Patrick Kelly) and ask him a few questions... The hard way.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A variation on the "buddy-cop" hybridized genre, 48 HRS. greatly bolstered the career of Nick Nolte and made comedian Eddie Murphy a bonafide box-office sensation. When a pair of reckless cop-killers break out of prison, grizzled detective Jack Cates (Nolte) is left no alternative but to spring fast-talking hustler Reggie Hammond (Murphy) from the penitentiary in order to find the criminals. The catch: the pair only have 48 hours to complete their assignment before Hammond must return to prison. Naturally, the two despise each other and even engage in fisticuffs, but eventually the danger facing them proves a strong enough common bond for them to play on the same team, and even achieve a little mutual admiration.

This the eddie murphy I love and remember. The early 80s eddie.
He was only 20 years old here! His first film role!
@@twmax6525 followed by Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop. He definitely was on the rise.
Frfr
When he appeared in serious action movie before becoming comedian
David Patrick Kelly is a damn good actor. He was great in this and the Warriors.
And the Crow
Yeh spot on
and Commando!
Let's not forget James Remar who was in Warriors too. As a matter of fact, to play Ganz, he stayed up and didn't sleep to get that look.
He was Sully in Commando.
1:37 "Luther, man, you better tell this boy somethin', he's having a ball with this car door."
+Joshua Tunis LOL!!
Yeah he sure is having a ball like he doesn't care about his car
His name is Luther on the warriors
I don't know what you're laughing at, WATERMELON 😂😂😂
I loved David's acting. Warriors was an awesome movie and David had the best part of the movie at the end. Haha
Funny his character was named Luther in this and The Warriors and Walter Hill directed both, "Your a funny guy Sully, I like you, that's why I'll kill you last."
Warriors !!
That door looked real painful when you slammed into it.
Taht had to be one of the funniest lines and scenes in all the movies from the 80s-90s. As a friend said, "Eddie Murphy could just walk in a room and you would crack up"..
I say that all the time
Come to think of it the pain in his face while he was on the ground looked genuine.
Swear David Kelly actually got punched for real in this scene 😂
It is
I love how David Patrick Kelly delivers his curse words lol
Nick Nolte was a beast in this movie 🤣
Why does Jack call Reggie watermelon?
@@eronifitiao6660 Why DID Jack call Reggie a watermelon? And why did you even ask that question? I have an idea of what you're insinuating, but please... Tell me.
I wasn’t sure if the word watermelon was suppose to be an insult.
@@eronifitiao6660 Jack didn't mean that stuff. He was just doin his job, keepin him down.
Come out to pla-ay. Oh wait Wrong Luther.
Either one will do.
I like how Ajax is still pissed at him even after he was released.
He wonts ganz
Lutherrrr. Are you angry with me?
This movie is like a Warriors reunion with Ajax, Luther and Rembrandt all appearing.
"I don't know what you're smiling at, Watermelon." Classic.
These type movies can’t be made today. Lot of racial insults in film
@@checkthemikecrophone9050who cares? Let’s keep hearing about what movies can’t do today. That’s why they suck.
@@smokingzombiefilms Exactly.
"I don't know what you're smiling at watermelon." This line would piss off a lot of people today.
That and Nolte calling him the n-word before their fight later in the movie
lol most everything in this movie would; he calls Reggie a ----er about 5 times ....
Charcoal colored loser, calling him "boy", the N word, spear chucker. Yeaaah. This definitely doesn't get made. Or Jack would have to be some over the top evil character.
It did piss people off. Not you though. You prob liked it.
Who cares?
"well who gives a FUCK WHAT YOU THINK!!" slam bang boom crash haha .. great scene
LOL!!
6'1" Nick Nolte really put in work for a good scene with 5'6" David "Warriorsssssssssss come out and plaaaaaaaaaaay" Patrick Kelly.
😂😭🤣
Looks like he hit him for real!!!!
@@mr69intrigue I swear I said the same thing. Just great acting.
1:32 that punch LOL
Ouch, I sure felt that! :-)
I love the scene from 48 Hours and I love Eddie Murphy's performance so much.
Word
1:20 lmao Luther looks so small here 😂 it's like Nick is holding a kid lmao 😭
He is, the actor is 1,68 m
@xraystudios3693 why does luther look like a kid??
I like how Edie talks to Luther like he's a dog
And the entire movie basically was a dog
@@sitdowndogbreath yet here you are, liar
" well who gives a f**k what u think !! ". iconic line.
They don't make kick ass shoot em up scenes like they use to now and days
Sad but so.
Well to paraphrase another character from another Walter Hill film, "What can I say, they've all gone f-ggot now."
This movie is awesome.
Called him a "watermelon" 😂 smh
Right 😂
@@austinmayweather5664 Lol!!!!!
😆
Man Nick Nolte was Savage for that one🤣😂
Called Reggie Alot of other Names in the Movie....People Weren't So Sensitive Back Then
It looks like Nick Nolte really hit David Patrick Kelly (Luther).
I’ve always been stunned at how brutal that was. People have been concussed with less of a blow. No character break either. Amazing.
They might've just went with it for realism.
That's why its called acting Nimrod!
Watch the behind the scenes. He really clocked him! LOL
He really did. Sometimes that's part of the acting when it comes to really close up shots. You can get away with long range shots.
Definitely one of the hardest slaps in movie history..Kelly felt that one damn..
(Jack slaps him upside the head and starts slamming him against the door)
Reggie (grinning): Yo Luther man, you better tell this boy something, he's having a ball with this car door.
😂🎉❤😅
He smacked the shit outta Luther 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Jesus Christ the aggression, best manhandle scene ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1:46 Kevin Samuel's sent me here 😂😂😂
1:45 Kevin Samuels brought me here.
Luther! Are you angry at me?
I guess he might be.
With not at
Leroy Lowe I use this on my wife when she’s pissed. The best.
1:42, When Luther is reaching for Eddie Murphy and Eddie is laughing. 😅
Warriors come out & play!
I like how david patrick kelly is called luther in this and the warriors.
This movie is like a partial Warriors reunion.
@@joel8583 James Remar is Ajax in the Warriors: Ganz
@@EatTravelSteve yep and Rembrandt as the car attendant.
@@alyjaffer8885 that I didn't know RIP
"Luther, are you angry with me?"
1:30 when people say that 48hrs is a terrible movie. Love this scene!
I could watch this scene all day long. It's both funny and disturbing.
Funny and disturbing is a tough combo
Great take by you
Luther reminds me of Luther from The Warriors (1979), also played by David Patrick Kelly.
A real easter egg, you know lol
GamingDude2000 lol
Michael MacDonald Yep no other than the legendary Walter Hill. Who also directed the movie of Stallone called "Bullet To The Head" (2012).
this guy got beat up in commando by Arnold too!
Jesus Saves he got thrown off a cliff by Arnold in Commando
The cop version of rick flair lol
Wooooooooooo
'What's happenin' Luther...' I'm already laughing
Absolute classic.
Great buddy film.
Nick Nolte is a tough policeman with a temper.
Thats a FUNNY scene! As kids, my brother and I used to reanact it.!!
Luther, are you angry with me?
I guess he is, sort of.
1:26 😂
What's so funny? 😂
Wow! There's some dialogue you won't hear anymore...
Except in old movies.
@@joel8583 In 1982 you could actually watch movies with good dialogue, then Hollywood got all pussyfied.
Yeah Mr. Nultie called him watermalon and then the N-Word
Nick Nolte was a big mf back in the days
DP Kelly is the poor man's Willem Dafoe he's great
What u smiling at watermelon lmao
Luther, is definitely one feisty guy __ especially pushing his luck with mr.nolte.
😲 That right hand was fast asf!
Damn look at Jack tuning up Luther!
OMG! Love this scene forever 😂😂😂😂😂💜
"Well who gives a f**k what you think!" Said this to my old man one time. And he Nick Notled me.
Was there a car door involved or a room door
Nolte-ed*
“Luther I’m talking to you, Luther, Luther!” 😂😂
The door looked painful...
I don’t know what you’re laughing at Watermelon...you’re big move turn out to be 💩...
This is a classic scene.
Luther kinda looks like Daniel Radcliffe.
LOL!!
LOL!!
Palider 👍
Harry Potter getting beat up
Wow!!! that acting was so real, Nick Nolte roughed luther up pretty good.... who gives a f*** what you think!
Nick really hurt that guy.
1:30 resisting arrest
1:42 fighting with reggie
Yeah but cate's f***** up he did not identify herself as a police officer when he came to his apartment That's why Luther was out on bail
Young Eddie heh heh heh
me and my brother as kids in the 80s used to laugh at this part, his delivery, the immediate smack in the face. But I just listened to a podcast with Bill Hader and Burr talking about this movie and Burr brought up this part so I had to search it and send it to my brother. Good times and laughs.
This is so 1982 its almost diabolical! Luther...Walter Hill...etc etc
When they’re following him in the car it’s the same music when Arnold Schwarzenegger is following the same guy in a car as well in commando!?!?
WTF???????
Soundtracks are indeed almost identical. That's because James Horner did the soundtrack for both 48 Hrs and Commando and in Commando he used some rehashed themes from 48 Hrs. He probably did that because both were action movies and came out only 3 years apart.
Kinda like when Jimmy Page did the soundtrack to Death mWish 2 and would reuse some of his songs again for DeathWish 3.
Yeh it is. James horner did both
Little known fact: It's more than the music played Commando borrowed from 48 Hrs.
No reason, I just like doing things like that
the Warriors!
Best response to any question
It's himm it's...the Warrior! He shot Cyrus!
Let's do it me and you?!
Sorry about the door man it looked real painful when you slammed into it
@ImTheShhhhhhhh
Yep. James Horner was the composer for this flick and Commando. So you're absolutely right about the music being identical. I liked those Jamaican style drums that Horner used in both scores.
0:32 LOL, the way Luther goes flying over the car door.
Luther are you angry with me
I think he really did hit him hard, must have hurt.
I just love it when I get called watermelon ... He he he ... :)
I like to think that this takes place in the same universe as The Warriors and Ganz is Ajax after he got arrested in Central Park.
And moves to San Francisco
Such a cool idea bro.
@@dcta51 48 hrs later he got bailed from prison and then found Luther again in san Francisco.
There he is that’s him ! That’s the Rogue who shot Cyrus! Get him Reggie from the Boppers ! 0:00
Use to live on that street. Love watching this scene.
Important fact about the head to the car door scene. 1:31 The man that was getting banged up had slept with Nick Nolte’s wife, he found out the day of the set. As you can see he went to town on him.
We need to bring these tactics back😂
And then some…
@sabre926 Notice how the premise (white guy with black passenger chase David Patrick Kelly) and music of the car chase are nearly identical to those found in Commando? Will look into music composer...
Watermelon 😂😂😂
Can't believe Eddie Murphy is only 21 here
Ben Bergin I can' t believe major FOOD MARKET! chains r down to: 1 EXPRESS LINE!! NATIONWIDE! Eddie was in 1961. 48hrs came out in late spring 1982. Hmmm.
I love classic movies 😂😂😂
He called him watermelon couldn't get away with that today
Haha. This is real comedy not like the crap nowdays
"Drop Dat Goddamn Gun!!!" lol
“Warriors, come out to play..”
I loved this film.
No way a 3rd movie could be made in 2021, the whole association of motion
pictures would be fined out of existence.
Still I wouldn't mind years later what these 2 are up to but something's better left alone
Cates just loves Luther doesn't he 😋 I love Cates his brash vicious actions He doesn't give a damn who's in his way ♥️
A-ha, ha, ha, ha, this is classic comedy at its finest 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sully from Commado
Great movie
Movie is a classic
"You Better Tell This Boy Something He's Having A Ball With This Car Door"
1:30 Ahhh, so this is where Nick DiPaolo got his latest sound clip from!
How original was this movie! still the funniest film I have watched in my life I'm 55 now
David Patrick Kelly, James Remar and Sonny Landham were all in The Warriors. Sonny Landham was a cop though.
alex chalakee Marcelino Sanchez also, during the parking lot scene
Same director for both movies
This is great, I've been trying to figure out where that nick dipaolo sound drop came from. I finally found it and got the watermelon one too as a bonus.
Hey, it's Luther: _"Warriors ... come out to play-ay!"_ Same name; different move ... still a psychopathic whack job, hahaha!!
Angel Deville David Patrick Kelly played a lot psychotic characters in his movies like Sully in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Commando and Bruce Willis’s Last Man Standing as Irish mob boss.
"What's happening Luther?"
Luther has the same name in The Warriors. Same actor, too.
David Patrick Kelly is from my hometown, Detroit. Motown, MyTown!!
