Both Rebels and Clone Wars are still canon, idiots
so when I was re-watching Phantom Menace recently, I decided to watch the first official release of it on Home Video to see if there are any differences from the Blu Ray, and when I got to the Duel with Darth Maul at the end, I noticed that on this version, the mistake where you could see through the lightsabers was a lot less noticeable. So, I have a feeling that it only really became more noticeable with the 2011 Blu Ray release. I don't know how it was in theaters, because I wasn't alive then, but it just seemed a lot less noticeable.
It's something a casual viewer would never notice because it's only on the screen for a second. I've seen _The Phantom Menace_ multiple times in the theater, on DVD, and on Blu-Ray, and I've never noticed it before.
I saw the film in theaters twice and in neither showing did i hang my chin in my hand and say, "wait a minute something seems off here."
None of this stuff is being found in the moment, and at speed, as it was a very engrossing experience for the time. Its only afterwards, with multiple versions and re-edited shots, under intense scrutiny by trained professionals that these defects are being picked out like they are.
Did you also see the Yoda puppet that looked like it was on meth?
The pod race was done on Macs with Electric Image Animation System. Incredible renderer for its time. They truly are well equipped! Maybe even well equipped enough to do a reaction video on the oily maniac! Or is that too much?
only when they're talking about VFX. they know nothing about star wars itself
it's insane that it took until the sequel trilogy for anybody to realize that they can use practical lighting for lightsabers so they actually look like sabers of light that interact with their surroundings.
It's not a realization thing - they couldn't do it. LED technology wasn't advanced enough when they made the original and prequel trilogies.
Too bad the lightsaber fights after Ep 7 are shit compared to the prequel ones because they got heavier. Lighter lightsabers allowed for the epic fast paced duels in the prequels.

Clone Wars: Am I a joke to you?
Me seeing no episode III “this is outrages, it’s unfair”
Agreed ! (Also, 'outrageous')
it is because episode 3 has perfect cgi. The video was too long and it was not necessary to say that episode 3 has perfect cgi (they even went to an active volcano to capture it for mustafar), cause we all know the cgi was incredible. It was so unfair that it didnt won the oscar to best vissual effects, i guess it was due to the cotinuous nominatios (episode 1 and 2 without winning it).
@@valenfiorini5676 " It was so unfair that it didnt won the oscar to best vissual effects"
Was it unfair? Goddamn King Kong won the award back then.. And they had some aaaaamazing visual effects, especially dealing with realistic furr which was nearly an impossible task. Had Episode 3 won over King Kong, it'd have been outrageous and unfair.
And on the nominee list they competed with Narnia and War Of The Worlds. It was basically just a huge year for CGI stuff, so nah, not unfair really, just unlucky.
@@Dead25m but episode 3: mustafar lava, space battles... lightsabers, cities like coruscant, utapau. i can admit king kong had nice visual effects but it was only incredible when it was about the monkey. Otherwise, under no concept narnia or war of the worlds had better vissual effects than revenge of the sith. Episode 3 it was not nominated just because episode 1 and 2 were not the winners
@@valenfiorini5676 Eh, King Kong had really good effects throughout, and the effects for King Kong himself easily deserved a win.
Narnia and War of the Worlds are both visually stunning movies, and both of them hold up just as good as Episode 3 did. And if i'm being honest, Episode 3 is not 100% consistent with how good its effects are, neither are they groundbreaking in any way.
Don't get me wrong, it's good but doesn't stand out.
Like i said, that year was packed with gems, and your reasoning that it wasn't nominated due to 1 and 2 not winning is just ludacris and honestly makes 0 sense.

I remember in the behind the scenes documentary of Episode 2, ILM campaigned heavily for Lucas to go CGI with Yoda. It was impressive for the time, especially clothing simulation and translucency of his ears to imitate the Frank Oz puppet. Episode 2 is also very heavy on CGI as opposed to Episode 1, which did a lot of practical effects - including yoda. Which was subsequently changed in modern renditions of the movie.

yea, his story line in those shows was great
In the Phantom Menace lightsaber scene, the three actors constantly missed their queue. So there were times where the actors swung at nothing.
There are a handful of shots in _The Phantom Menace_ showing the practical Jar Jar costume. Pretty much any shot that doesn't show his head -- for instance, a close up of his hands or feet -- is practical. The fact that the practical blends seamlessly with the CGI is astounding for a film released in 1999.

Historically, AotC would have been green screen because it was the first major movie shot completely on digital and Green screens work better on digital where blue screens are better on film. What is interesting about AotC being shot completely on digital is that George decided to do that because if they were going to have to do a bunch of digital effects, why shoot on film when that just requires an extra unnecessary conversion process. The camera crews were understandably upset because their industry had spent the last half a century refining film cameras to make them more mobile, where switching to digital restarted the whole process of innovation from the start. But looking at the person of George Lucas, 100 years from now, he will likely be remembered more for his contributions to technology over his films. If George didn’t decide to consistently go against Hollywood, and everything that was normal in filmmaking in his time with visual effects and digital technology, the entire film Industry would likely be years behind what it is today. People will always criticize his unique writing style, (which I find charming and actually prefer the prequels over the originals and sequels) but what we need to do is understand that George Lucas never let anything rest fully on the script. He saw it more of a guideline for his ideas. He said that he considers himself more of a visual storyteller which is always an important thing to remember when analyzing his films. At the end of the day, he is somebody who despite receiving vast criticism throughout every step of his career, someone who dramatically changed filmmaking forever.

They always call out SO much I'd never notice if they hadnt, it kinda makes the movies feel more personal in a weird way haha, love you guys
I loved so much the Jar Jar section when I was child.
I still love Jar Jar, and I first saw these films as an adult.
Lord of the Rings! I'd love to see a comparison to the Hobbit. The Hobbit already looks outdated but LOTR has held up really, really well.
Yall gotta do Tron Legacy, 2010 and pretty much blew everyones minds with the quality
Boi that movie was pure eyecandy. And a soundtrack by Daft Punk.
@@gracecalis5421 Movie? I thought it was a long music video
@@ascruffyhamster8070 Might as well be. Give me 2 hrs of just those gorgeous visuals coupled with music by Daft Punk and I'll never leave the IMAX.
Christopher Lee actually didn't fight with Yoda. It was a stunt men and they replaced his face . You can watch it here on youtube and on the blue ray extra behind the scenes
The special effects teams on 1984's Ghostbusters, used salt to create the effect of a broken fire hydrant spraying water, they developed it because using actual water doesn't scale when using miniatures.
Fans of the Clone Wars and Rebels knew about Darth Maul being alive for years before Solo came out.
You have to do the Lord of the Rings and then The Hobbit series!
MajesticZorro yep one hundred percent
literally what everyone wants
Yes
PLEASE, PLEASE do LOTR and the Hobbit!
Definitely the hobbit series
One scene in the prequels a storm trooper fell on the floor before he even got shot. My conputer froze while watching this and i saw this thing
Theirs a whole story on how maul survived in the tv show the clone wars. You guys didn't watch it? It's awesome. Everyone should watch it. And the final fight scene between maul and Kenobi takes place in rebels and is magical.
10:22
Clone wars: „We stand here amidst MY achievement, NOT YOURS!!!“
And they also did a perfect Job of bringing him back
Except it wasn't the Clone Wars that brought him back. Aaron McBride wrote and illustrated Old Wounds 6 years before the Filoni copied the design and story in the Clone Wars.
@@shadovao That Is no Canon Amy More so it doesn't count
@@shadovao legends is the best
"Solo decided that Maul is still allive"
Clone Wars TV: Hello there!
.... general kenobi
"Solo basically said 'oh by the way darth maul is still alive'"
Everyone: excuse you?
Also the maul revival in the clone wars was one of the best things to happen to star wars since the prequels (I like the prequels)
This actually made me appreciate the prequels a bit more
Surprised they didn't notice Christopher Lee's head was plastered on someone else's body.
Facts!
Turo 602 really?
Yep, some scenes he was entirely digital lmao. Mad respect to the render teams.
That means it was good CGI then 🤣
The man was like 90 did they really think he did that whole fight?
Clone Wars brought Maul back as fanservice to old legends material, his storyline was really well done there
@@KMhomeexe Maul was the coolest character in Rebels
i want to see them react to the before and after of the Halo 2 anniversary cutscenes
Awesome video guys! Love your content, really top notch breakdowns. I can't help but ask, why did you leave out Revenge of the Sith when talking Prequels? That has the best effects. Just curious if there will be a separate video or if there is one that already exists? Thanks again.
You guys didn't talk about Revenge of the Sith. So I'm hoping there will be a Part 2 for the Prequels VFX reactions.
Would especially love to see what they think of the opening to RotS
Yeah, Griveous also looked awesome
React to the X-Men quicksilver scenes!!
We need a quicksilver movie
Getsuga Allen YES
those scenes were easy to make, another channel has already broken it down
@@dubstaking2496 easy but wonderful
DubstaKing but I want Corridor’s take on it
As a star wars fan I am offe.. surprised that maul being alive in solo was a shock to you guys
Never thought about it but Vaders suit would reflect everything around him so you'd be able to see not only his lightsaber reflected but Obi-Wans and Obi-Wan himself as well as the background. I wonder if they went that far in rogue one. Gotta rewatch now!
You didn’t even react to General Grievous from episode 3? Please make a part 2.
Im pretty sure they will its just episode 3 could be an entire video
General Kenobi!
habijjj yeah probably
Phry3 yeah kinda pathetic
Fun fact, Solo did not reveal that Darth Maul survived, we already found out about that in the animated TV shows. Solo just picked up that thread for the movie goers.
Ye it made me a little mad when they said that
Yeah me to
Most grownups don’t care much for animated cartoons. I still refuse to watch that stuff, but now I kinda feel like I have to. haha
@@ricksterdrummer2170 At least the clone wars, it actually adds a lot lore wise.
Anonymous Broad That’s my problem. It kinda sucks for us who don’t like watching that animated stuff that we know have to, so we don’t miss out on something. When I watched Solo I was like “Holy shit! Darth Maul is alive!? I’m gonna see him again in future movies!!”
Then after doing some googling I know now, I won’t.
