ok
You guys are wrong about what's CG in Titanic and how much there is. For example, we added the black part of the hull in the iceberg shots (where you say "so how do you do this shot). And the superstructure of the ship that's going under water when you say something like "the FX in Titanic were actually pretty easy" was CG. Despite the "CG isn't as good as miniatures" that people have been saying for three decades now, I haven't seen anyone correctly identify a single CG ship element from the film.
You missed the little hand drawned shot of Eddie in the cartoon car when it's backing up very fast in the alley!
Fun fact for Titanic: in the last scene when people are in the water, their breath is CG. The water was warm during filming and to make it look cold they just CG cold breath on every person.
Nick Wow I didn’t know that! Thanks for the info
Another fun fact that I'm actually shocked about that they didn't mention it: The scenes where Titanic is in port were filmed completely mirrored. They just built the starboard half of the ship, and only then remembered that in 1912 Titanic actually was moored with it's portside towards the docks. So all the lettering on the dockside buildings and cars had to be mirrored, the name of the ship was mirrored, and even all the costumes and actors' motions had to be mirrored as well. If you look closely you can see that Leonardo DiCaprio's hair is really messy in these scenes, as his hair didn't want to stay combed to the "wrong" side.
@@DannyMNL I heard/read that somewhere. I think that you can see that as many people were left handed while greeting.
@@DannyMNL The earlier film about the Titanic, A Night To Remember, also built half the ship and used mirrors for the other.
It's not all cgi? They did a lot of shots in a chilled down room where they got the actors or extras not sure to repeat their limes with the mouth and face blacked out and against a black cloth so they could isolate the condensing breath. And then they placed that on top of the original performances in the tank. They couldn't cool down the tank set as you'd get steam coming off the water.
That Super Girl scene looks like something you'd see in Power Rangers.
A scuffed Power rangers.
Yeah early 90's Tv Show CGI
Probably dealing with similar budgets.
I was about to comment that lol

@GhostFZ 62
Oh no, that's not what I meant, it's like seeing something disgusting, and every second it gets worse, a visual pollution, I don't stand up for the show. It's just that every second comes a new detail that increasingly spoils
she caught my heart and thats all that matters
What about the fact they did a spot no shot to show her moving fast enough to catch the bullet but they didn't slow down the background people so they are slowly reacting at the same speed as super girl and the speeding bullet?
I love how they don’t shit on people but genuinely consider their difficulties and are very understanding
True sympathy and professional insight, a winning combo

"What was the budget on this movie?!"
$James Cameron.
Jame$ Cameron
James Cameron is a masterclass on how to incorporate effects. This is due to his background being in visual effects. Aliens is a clinic on how to use practical effects to achieve amazing visuals. For example, the reveal of the entrance to the hive seems massive, but it is actually a miniature placed in the foreground and made to appear distant.
David Fincher too.
I was expecting them to discuss their own video too, like:
"The most interesting part about this, is that Clint got actually hit in the head with a real brick!"
He did, but he had a helmet on
6:22 "This type of movie wouldn't be made anymore" Christopher Nolan: hold my tea
frrrr I'm waiting for a Dunkirk analysis. The plane scenes using RC models is so good
Yes, the only problem is, Nolan is almost the only one who gets huge budgets for such films.
Nowadays imagine such a hassle for a movie in which a ship goes down? The studios would probably ask first, if there are monsters, robots or super heroes in the movie. After a short thought that it also doesn't belong to any franchise, they would cancel it.
Ha yeah they could do a react to The Dark Knight, that film had so many incredible practical FX it's mind boggling
That's exactly what I thought about. In Inception, they built and blew up a 1/8 miniature of their set--and, of course, they blew up the actual set too.
www.fxguide.com/fxpodcasts/inception/
12:51 they said that Avengers: Endgame was the most outrageous crossover ever, but this is actually the best crossover
I think that the platypus actually wins the prize for most outrageous crossover ever. :}
I’ve been binging these episodes for about an hour now
"Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" was an achievement in film making. It had to take so much work and planning to make it all come together into the final product.
Still one of my absolute faves
Yes, and rest in peace Richard Williams who directed and supervised all the animation..truly an underrated icon in the world of animation.
Exhausted Elox yeah being able to see that as a kid was amazing.
it's just as amazing now as when I was in college...maybe moreso, because we've had decades of bad cgi in between. unfortunately, it doesn't really work as a kids' movie anymore...
Yup, great vfx work
One of these episodes is gonna end with the reveal that the boys and set is all cgi
Nico Zanotti every thing is CGI and always has been.
haha looooool
Reality is CGI, we live in the matrix.

They should all switch places on the couch and deep fake each other just to see if people can tell that the faces are on different bodies XD
Trivia to know and share about Titanic, it was Billy Zane's idea to see the letters TITANIC LIVERPOOL disappear into the depths after the stern went under. He was watching Cameron edit that scene and said "ya know, it would be great if you can see the stern falling away behind Leo there."
Cameron loved it and put it in.
The titanic effects are absolutely amazing!! I had no idea just how real the effects were! It looks so good I don’t know why that don’t do those kinds of effects anymore!! Also thank you for doing Spider-Man: Far from Home, that sequence blew my mind!!
Not only that, the ship is the closest physical copy of the Titanic. The interiors and exteriors were all from the blueprints of Harland and Wolff Shipyard. Maritime artist, Ken Marschall, helped with every color and texture of the ship. Even the sequence of events regarding the lifeboats, the passengers, the list of the ship was as accurate as they knew at the time of 1997. The set was built in multiple tanks that could be lowered by hydraulics. It was that way for the interiors that were filmed in a large studio. The exterior was built outside and the wind direction was key to making the smoke fly as if the ship was moving.
"What was the budget on this movie?"
"200 million dollars"
"GH!"
It took more money to make the movie then the real Titanic
ZenticToni 1$ was valued more at that time
@@tankmain3243 yea but adjusted for inflation it would still only be 170 million dollars
ZenticToni Actually converted to today’s money it would cost about 400 million dollars.

When they edit the blue embers effect it looked so fucking good way better
Probably took them less than an hour but managed to make the scene look much better
"Who framed Roger Rabbit?" definitely has one of the best VFX of all time
And it's by sheer effort and skill. Drawing by hand every frame onto the film shots at 24 frames per second, all on ones.
@@Balthazar2242 RIP Richard Williams 😢
If anyone wants to get into animation, be it 2D or 3D, you NEED his book. Look up 'The Animator's Survival Kit'.
I bet you even Corridor has even flipped through his book.
It's a shame he never got to finish the Thief and the Cobbler due to him being insistent it all needed to be animated on ones, you can find the bits and pieces of it uploaded on youtube
@@Floreum The ReCobbled Cut is the best version. Its incredible what he was able to do with animation and how far he pushed the medium. You should watch his last short "Epilogue" if you haven't yet. I saw it on CZcams actually.

Respect to the mad lads that made all those older movies.
There are still countless films and TV shows out there, which are realized with incredible effort and passion.
I try to keep this in mind and to learn a lot about it, because I find it interesting. Take a look at the documentary about the last season Game of Thrones. "The Last Watch". No matter what you think of the season or show. Remarkable.
Stunts too good chance of dying depending on how far back your going
The Spiderman illusion sequence was absolutely mind-blowing. Even before the VFX, just the conception of what was going to happen from shot to shot made me drop my jaw.
14:25 In the Who Framed Roger Rabbit segment, when Roger spits water out, the water spits in front of the weasel leader instead of behind. That's an animation flaw.

When he said: this type of movie wouldn't get made anymore" it really hit me, because he is so right. Sad;(
sadly, Titanic was the last of what here in Italy we call "colossal", that are movies (mainly hystorical) that are made with huge investments of resources and manpower... movies like Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, Gone with the Wind, Quo Vadis, Cleopatra...
He says one of the reasons that isn't overuse of CGI. That kind of practical effect is very expensive and time consuming. More expensive than using CGI, and they wouldn't need two weeks to reset the scene.
@@bryanwoods3373 Not to mention dangerous. This kind of work has largely been shouldered out by actor's unions pushing for higher safety standards, which is reasonable, but instead of abiding by those regulations, producers and directors usually just resort to CGI.
@@ashleyneku5432 Unions putting themselves out of work. Classic.
Could you guys take a look at The Witcher on Netflix? Even a breakdown of the sword fighting scenes with a stunt person would be cool too on top of an evaluation of the special effects for the creatures!
Still amazes me that at the time Clint hasnt seen Far From Home. As a VFX guy you would think he see a movie where the badguy is a VFX guy.... again how did he get into VFX if he doesnt watch any movies? lol
Ikr? Like if Marvel isn't your taste then that's of course fine but he never said anything along those lines. I still don't get why he's seen so few Marvel movies when they're really high up in the VFX regard.
He's too busy rewatching Jackie Chan movies for the 1000th time. Can't blame him.
7:14 "This definitely has a sense of realism that you don't get with CG"
11:43 "CG has crossed the line into realism and we cannot tell the difference"
That's the thing though, that sense of realism and weight can be simulated now like in Spider-Man, no need to do it by hand.
Paradox 😢
@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep If I were the film studios I'd say that everything was made with models. With CGI now being 100% realistic, nobody can tell the difference.
Paul Freedman Costs too much. CGI now is amazing, but still extremely expensive.
@@oliverlemke465 There are some (also here on YT) who beg to differ. One of them was a VFX artist.

Roger Rabbit was also a landmark of 2D animation. Richard Williams (RIP) and his crew had to animate these characters by hand at 24 frames instead of the usual 12 or less.

"This is inspiring"
Clint blows up a cruise ship. "I've made art."
Man Who Framed Roger Rabbit is still one of the most impressive movies ever.
It is insane how much labor went into making that movie. They had to bring nearly every professional animator in the business to work on those shots, and it shows in the final product.
I've liked videos and I have some regular channels I watch on here youtube but I have never given a direct compliment to a channel. Ps what about some God of War videos!?
I swear, Titanic still looks crazy good till this day.
SuiCaedere same reason Jurassic Park and the Lord of the Rings trilogy - practical effects done well hold up.
Visionary Director with huge budget... And not compromising anything... Two studios shared the budget and James Cameron even gave his paycheck for the movie... It paid of quite nicely for him though at the boxoffice...
I mean it was almost all practical, that stuff lives forever. Full CGI will look bad in a couple of years cause the tech evolves and surpasses the old renders.
And it will in many years to come. REAL looking will remain real looking.
SuiCaedere there’s a reason why titanic won 11 oscars. The filmmaking is incredible back in 1997

" How are they holding that gun? Is it another gun on a stick? IS IT A GUN ON A STICK?!"

that shooting robot, boston dynamics? thing, what caught my eye, wasn't the fact that it would be ludicrous to give a robot a pistol and have it point it at you.
What you guys forgot, was the splash from bullets as they hit a steel plate. There's a reason you angle them downward. Standing right next to one, you'll be in a world of hurt.
Thats why you use self sealing polymer targets 👍
One more thing about TITANIC. Since, as noted in the video, the 'full-size' mockup was only detailed on the starboard side, the production had to flop the image for scenes showing the port side. And yes, that means that in the big boarding scene (Kate's entrance) all the signage is painted backwards and some principal cast are even wearing 'mirror image' costumes.
Said it before, but the Slo-mo and the "Incendiary" scenes from Dredd.

The video just made me fall in love with 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' all over again. Truly inventive stuff there.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. The scene when Jack is in Davy Jones locker.
I think I remember them doing that one already if im not mistaken
I just noticed that the splashing water at 14:54 goes behind the weasel, but they are able to get away with by how quick the shot is.
6:38 or 6:39 when it's the completely rear shot of the aft end and the screws crashing into the water, that's the part that looks more obviously fake to me. Looks like a scene from the older godzilla movies. Something about it seems off, maybe the size of the water droplets, and lack of water spray? it might be the lighting as well

I love both Quicksilver scenes in Days of Future Past and Apocalypse. Would love to see them analyze both and say which they think is the better scene.
I haven’t seen Apocalypse yet to be honest - I often got told that the representation of Apocalypse did not match with the one in the comics at all and that kind of turned me off to watch the movie.. is it still worth to watch?
@@JayKayLable Not really. There are specific scenes of the mutants showing off their powers that are cool, but the actual plot is kinda forced and awkward. The Quicksilver mansion scene is probably the best in the entire movie.

I’d love to see you guys react to Peter Jackson’s WW1 documentary ”They Shall Not Grow Old”. The restoration work they did for all the archive footage is mindblowing!
The footage looks superficially good until you see all the interpolated frames, crude colorization and other modifications. Then it looks fucking abysmal. They should have just removed the scratches and other imperfections but otherwise left the footage the way it was filmed. Why is it even necessary to bastardize the footage?
drxym The way it was filmed did not move at a natural speed. These were the days of hand cranked cameras. The framerate depended on the operator, and these shooters intended them not be be viewed at an extended length with voice acting but as that day’s equivalent of gifs.
I thought that documentary was amazing, heartbreaking, but amazing. It really put a different light on that war from a century ago, people thought and behaved so differently back then.
It did a really good job of genuinely humanizing the soldiers too. I think the whole film was nothing but direct quotes read from WWI soldier interviews and journals and whatnot.
@@drxym I can see where you're coming from and I respect your opinion but I personally disagree. The footage is quite literally 100 years old so the end result is obviously not going to be flawless but I think calling their efforts crude is a bit disingenuous. I believe simply removing scratches and imperfections had been done before. Peter Jackson's main goal was to humanize the soldiers by making the footage play back in real time and using the technology we have available today to give us a better understanding of what they went through as opposed to the black and white caricatures we sadly tend to think of them as.
