@simpleton :) when animators animate a full CGI face, sometimes the upper lip moves on its own, and it's simply impossible to do for a normal human.
I just love so much that they made his actual face still look a little deepfake like, the blurring and stuff. amazing hahah

they purposefully do an obvious deepfake to just show how good the real deep fake got.

When I saw the movie, everything looked like 3D in the body, even the denim jacket looked like a 3D render.
The bad first deepfake is what gave it away. Right off the bat I was expecting the real deepfake to be the "real" Will Smith as a reveal. But it was still really great. Can't wait to see the followup vid, assuming they didn't just get Smith... which is the real conspiracy.

Stan Lee created comic books and became the most world-known artist. one goes for money the other goes for entertaining people for centuries. actors are only in it for the small moment of fame and money, most of the time actors don't even like the movies they star in.

For a partial costume, I imagine it really helps the other actors with reference for their acting. It makes it a bit more difficult for the VFX people, but at least the other actors know what they're interacting with. And you guys don't have to change the direction of the other actors' eyes if they accidentally looks in the wrong spot because they don't know where to look.

The amazing thing about I Am Mother is that you have no clue whatsoever when you’re looking at CG or the real thing. It’s all so cohesive and trying to find the flaws in the CG is so hard. WHAT A FILM!

it's the Artist Problem. Whatever part of the human body you're having difficulty with at the time is always The Hardest Part. I have actually stopped saying 'the hardest part of drawing people is...' because I realised it was a different thing every time. Eyes, mouths, noses, ears, eyebrows, hands, feet, legs, knees, ankles, shoulders, armpits, elbows, the list goes on. Humans are hard to get right in any artistic medium.

I thought this was an inside joke to when Norm McDonald said exactly the same thing on Conan, about two decades ago.
Plot twist: That was actually Michael Jackson with a deepfake of Michael Jordan on top of him.

While it doesn't go from the nose to the lip, there is the Zygomaticus Minor and Major, which goes from your cheek to your upper lip. Your upper lip can move pretty damn close to straight up, it's just a weird movement that people don't do very often, but that doesn't mean they can't.
Yeah I was like, what about sneering? And lifting the corners of the lip I know isn’t necessarily going straight up, but yeah.
I think that young Will Smith lip move thing was like, when it was up it was actually in a default/resting state, but was then pulled *down* over the top teeth.

Yesterday I watched the ST:TNG episode 'Suspicions' and I was really impressed by the effect when Crusher shoots the bloke on the shuttle in the stomach with a phaser and burns a hole right through him. The hole even distorts realistically as he moves. This was the remaster, I don't remember what the original was like, but it reminded me of 'Death Becomes Her'.

Shin Godzilla looked AMAZING. I mean, the opening sequence of the movie has proto-Godzilla running around in full daylight, and it looks flawless... while also looking totally offputting. That was what really 'got' me. How downright unsettling the larval (?) stage looked, and it was 100% because of the great design, not because of bad FX.
