When are you going to review "Hisea" boots???
For god sakes please do red wing 606
@RoseAnvil this Chippewa classic 2.0 mc2085 through mc2091 boot is not a revival of the Chippewa heritage line. It is a revival of the made in America 20085 through 20091 boot line. That's why they call it the classic 2.0 really the only thing they changed was place of origin. Which is why the part number starts with mc for made in China 😁
Okay, if you're going to wear a fingernail polish at least f****** paint them when you're going to do a video. There is stuff called fingernail polish remover ffs!
I would like to respectfully suggest that you do some research and possibly a video on extra wide widths. 4E people like me are struggling to find any kind of footwear.
Thank you.
It sucks because I still remember when Chippewa made REALLY good boots, great engineer boots too. One of the staples of Wisconsin footwear, you could just drive to a local shoe store or their outlet and buy a pair off the rack and they'd last. Now all we have left is thorogood 😢. I really hope they decide to stick around in Merrill and continue to employ assemblers in the area, there's not a lot of US made anything left in Wisconsin.
Time to buy some Minnesota made boots!😉
Couldn't agree more. I have some old Sorrels that were made in Canada. I worked at a ski resort and stood for 8 hrs in snow ALL season. My feet were never cold and they never cracked and I was young. I had no idea how to care for them. I have old Chippewa loggers and Engineers, US made. They wore great! I got a couple pairs more recently and they were made in China! They looked good. They felt good on the first day (big red flag), but they fell apart. I wear thorogood wedge soles now. I like them and they wear well, but I cheat. Kevlar laces and that tuff toe stuff on the toe. I find it helps me from blowing out the boot at the little toe with a lot of lateral movement. I'm going to look at Nick's next.
Cheers!
@@northstar5 well I own one too many pairs of red wings myself as well. The thing that made Chippewa's heritage line a bit of a separator was the cost, they had great moccasin toe designs with vibram soles for considerably less than the red wing equivalent and were still made and manufactured in the US, just in Missouri and not Chippewa Falls. They've made a ton of mistakes since partnering with Justin Boots. I don't even think the factory still produces anything I think it's just a historic building now.
I have Chippewa engineer boots I bought in the late 70’s. Still ride in them.
You’re going to be surprised by Nick’s. They are levels better than the boots you’ve mentioned owning. Even much more than my early 90s Chippewa loggers.
Thank you so much!!!! I was thinking of buying these boots, but was on the fence about it until now. Thank you for your review. Really helped me make my decision.
30 year ago I used to live in my Chippewas. I worked all day on the farm. I walked behind a plow. I balanced on poles in the hay mow. When I moved to Brooklyn, I walked for hours on the pavement. My feet felt great. Roomy yet always supported.
Thanks for all you do. I was on the LAFD for 33 years and my favorite boots were Chippewa. Even when I had to purchase them. They fit my feet great, and lasted a long time with proper care. But I never cut them down the middle like you do. Your information is extremely valuable. Thanks again
Boots like these are what make some boot companies deserve to go under. All synthetic that wears out in a year. Especially when they get in trouble for the misleading word-play. These should be sold in Wal-Mart for $50.
Relax
no@@I_WANT_MY_SLAW
He said it’s a pretty common thing. How many other brands say it and just haven’t gotten sued?
I've seen better boots at Walmart for 50 bucks.
FU
We were issued Chippewa uniform boots when I was a firefighter in the L.A. area back in the mid 90’s. They were just ok. The light tan leather lining would run through exposing the material beneath. They had a lug sole and a zipper that you’d lace in for a quick opening. I’m sure with your FF background you’re familiar with what I’m talking about. We also had Whites (not issued) for wild land firefighting.
I bought the modoc 6" in 2020 based on a comment you made, they are made in US and waterproof with insulation. Amazing boots for hard outdoor work. They were clearing out stock so only paid 200!
Should do a cut-apart on the (fairly) new Schott NYC service boots. Made in USA for $299. All eight reviewers gave it 5 stars except for a 4 1/2 that said the laces snapped pretty quickly. Nice looking boot, really close in appearance to Iron Rangers or even Viberg.
Thanks for the heads-up they look pretty solid.
You have hit the "1 million subscriber quality" in your videos. I've been here since 100k and I'm having a great time watching you grow.
Nice to see this video. Just got delivered last Thursday a pair of Chippewa 2.0 classic Pecan Brown boots with Vibram Stockbridge Gumlite sole. Paid $159 from Chippewa website delivered in four days. So far I really like them. I am a big Red Wing fan and went to the Red Wing store in Red Wing, Mn to get sized and fitted for Iron Rangers. They did not work for me for what I wanted them for. I live in the north, Alaska, and I need a boot that does not suck the heat from my feet. The leather foot bed, and Vibram mini lug was just to hard and slippery in this environment. They were so cold. If Red Wing still made the 953, I would have paid more for that. They discontinued them. So far the Chippewa is checking all the boxes, warm, flexible sole, good enough leather, fair traction on ice. Comfortable. The heel counter with its cheesecloth cover is suspect. Also had Golden Fox delivered from Amazon to compare. The Chippewa's are far superior, and the Golden Fox are going back. Thanks for the channel. Really enjoy it.
Currently wearing the classic 2.0 in steel toe at work for the last couple of months so far so good will say they are very comfortable
I’ve got the Chippewa steele toe and I love them
The more I look at this channel, the more I can see how different boots are made. The more I love my Redwings for the price and materials and where they're made, the Redwings are the choice.
They really are superb. They're not all perfect, but damn do they have it down for their heritage models, leather, and construction.
It’s hard to go away from Redwings. They have been doing it right since they started. There are more expensive brands that use better materials. But is it really worth it? IMO No way! Redwings are goated!!!
Ehh not a fan spent over 300$ on the Supersole 2.0 and just so uncomfortable and build quality was questionable I would stick to Georgia boots..
@@paulkersey6283 I think we're talking mostly about the heritage line, here. Georgia make a great boot with less than stellar materials, and I'd say the same about Wolverine's imported work line.
@@InGrindWeCrust2010 I rather take a boot made in the Dominican Republic then China..
the old Chippewa original line made such nice stuff. They used all kinds of waxed roughouts and gorgeous pull-up leathers. Experimented with lots of designs including engineers, moc toes, monkey boots, and the classic service boots.
I also think their last had a classic look to it that I liked more than their competitors. So sad to see them go away.
the video i’ve finally been waiting for
I've owned a pair of Chippewa 8 inch loggers for years, I love em, they've lasted & treated me well
Exactly…. They don’t make boots like that anymore. You completely missed the point
I was a bit stoked to see Chippewa return, but then I looked over their new inventory and was a bit disappointed that they don’t have any USA made options anymore. The prices are a bit high compared to Georgia boots, if you’re going foreign to save money then the consumer should actually save money lol.
I have a pair of new old stock moctoe boots. They were probably made in the 90s. Best pair of boots I’ve ever had.
Quality video. amazing!
I bought a pair of the Super DNA 9” steel toe logger boots about a month ago and they seem to be so far the best logger boot I’ve worn. Your feet would roast because of the 400 gram insulation inside but at least they keep your feet warm on a really cold day, plus they’re waterproof. And they fit me just fine for someone who typically takes a 14 4E in boot/shoe size and the 14 3E fits me perfectly. They still seem to be a more well put-together boot than the Keen Troy boots I’ve had for 6 months until the waterproofing membrane plus the leather have been compromised allowing them to absorb water like a sponge, even after letting them dry for days, plus adding foot powder inside them. Spending $300 after tax on the Chippewa Super DNA insulated steel toes are a better buy than the $270 Keen Troys in my opinion. Sometimes it never hurts to spend the extra money on a good pair of work boots, especially for working out in the single digit temps, and not much above it or well below it.
Are they made in china or USA? Planning to buy a pair as well
@@mirceacrusitu6620 my pair is made in Vietnam.
The Chippewa service boot (cordovan )was my first ever boot . I still have it 10 years now and still going strong I have never had any issues with it . I have red wings and thorogoods also now
Same here. I can’t comment from experience on these new boots, but the older Chippewa boots I have are still going strong and looking good.
I have the LL Bean engineer boot made by Chippewa, which I bought about 9 years ago. The upper is phenomenal, the soles were a low quality vibram which were hard as nails and literally had no grip whatsoever, they were brutal on my feet. I finally had them resoled, but the cobbler I went to did a crap job so I only got an additional two years out of them, now the soles are peeling off so they are sitting in my closet unused. Damn shame because the uppers are very nice and it’s a good looking boot.
I still use my Chippewa Arctic -50 I bought in the 1990s. I keep them in the box they came in and only take them out when I need to go to a mountain top radio site during the winter before the snow. Once they are covered in snow, then my white Micky boots are used.
I love how much I've learned about boots, from your channel... You've done colabs with the high end Nicks, and Whites... if you were going to design boots at various price points, how would you design them? so like at the $150 and $300 ??
Hi ya, very cool channel.
I was an auto mechanic my entire life and some years back all I purchased were Chippewa’s. I felt they were the best without going into the upper tier handmade ( aka White’s & Nicks ), I’d sometimes have oil spills in my job which would just destroy the leathers so 5-600 dollar boots just would’ve been a waste since they are made to be rebuilt. The Chippewa’s I’d just throw away after perhaps 2 years of everyday wear.
Now that I’m retired I recently purchased Nick’s urban loggers and they are indeed another level of boot compared to Chip’s. It saddens me to see they’ve gotten worse and are being made in China now as well. I do my best to make purchases which are going towards companies here in the states.
Hey! I love your videos, been watching them for a few months now. I was wondering if you could do more European brand (of course their leather boots) review: Dachstein, Diemme, Hanwag, Lundhags etc some brand maybe from Spain, Portugal, Italy... so many actually. I hope it was worth mentioning and asking:)
I have a few pairs of the Chippewa heritage shoes, though I love the look I’ve got a wide foot and they are a bit narrow generally. The cordovan color service oxfords were my favorite but also the most narrow. Sadly they are too narrow to wear comfortably any more. Sad to see them leaning this way in the new boots.
The Silverado, "Lumberjack" w/ the honey-vibram sole. I would LOVE to see you review these. Made in America, with mostly American components (from what I understand) in my home state of Pennsylvania
Great video, do you think you can do the 2.0 classic logger by chance
I have a pair of LL bean boots made by Chipawa They call them Katahidan iron works. They are some of my favorites.
Gowd I love this channel
Hey huge fan of your work. Please consider reviewing the asolo leather hiking boot. I would really like to know what's inside to help me make an informed decision.
I appreciate you comparing it to other boots around that price range
I'd love to see a review of Jim Greens Baobab from you, it'd be really cool to see a proper breakdown
Would love to see the Oak Street Bootmakers trench boot reviewed
I just got a pair of the 8" ones for $149. They looked so gnarly I had to get them.
Great review! Can you please review timberland pro Barstows?
Miss my old American made Chippewas! One of the best boots I’ve ever had, just to many miles on them.
Thanks for another informative video! Where is your jacket from, btw?
I was going to rewatch this video on my tv and pause it to and find out myself! Super curious.
👀 give us the deetz @roseanvil@@myhandlewastakenandIgaveup
I have a few Chippewas back from they were made here. Incredible boots. Quality went to the ground after Warren Buffet bought Chippewa.
Hello good sir. I been following your channel for a while and love the content.
Recently though, I’ve needed dress shoes and they’ve been feeling extra tight. Any suggestions for extra wide high quality dress shoes/boots?
Best reviews videos
I have a redwing boot, that looks similar on the outside but it's The Redwing Roughneck, basically their Redwing Christie Sole with a Vibram lug sole, I've been waiting for you to potentially do a review on it because they're the most comfortable boot I've ever owned and won't wear anything else even my Nike Monarchs which Ive worn really down, these have only gotten more comfortable like a glove
I'd like to see you do a pair of Timberland Pros. I know there not a heritage boot but I've been wearing them for years and I'm really curious how there made. They are comfortable right out of the box but they seem to break down after 8-10 months.
What is the brand of your jacket? I can't make out the patch in this video, but it looks really nice.
I have a pair of Chippewa oxfords from 2016 with the Vibram vbar soles and they have been very durable. I’ve wanted to get a pair of their boots since these shoes have been so wonderful but not the 2.0 version.
Not pertinent to this video in particular, but have you examined any Loake boots yet? I have two pairs Thursday Captains which are great, but recently bought a pair of Loake Kirkbys. They are awesome, though perhaps they should be as they cost a little more than the Thursdays.
Keen to know if you’re likely to review them in the near future.
Thanks for the videos, kept me entertained for years.
That would be good. Apparently, at least some of their uppers are stitched overseas and imported to England for finishing in boots.
Recommendation for future videos- Add a new "Would I Buy It?" score. 3- Yes, 2- Maybe 1- No. Something like that.
Beckett Simenon. They are from Portugal. Mostly a dressier boot, but a good quality boot for not a lot. I have two pair. Comfortable, good components. The first pair I wore until they needed to be resoled. Got that done, ordered a different pair. Three years in and still wearing quite well.
Aren't they Blake stitched? I have a couple shoes with that construction I need to have re-soled or converted to rapid Blake-stitched.
@@InGrindWeCrust2010 Yes. A decent cobbler can handle them.
I have a pair of Beckett simenon I got second hand and they are by far the most comfortable boot I own!
Trenton & Heath reviewed them quite favorably, too.
"Beckett Simenon. They are from Portugal" Bogota, Columbia.
It's nice to see some familiar boots, but I always remember by the end of the video that boots are mostly a sentimental thing. After years in the trades and aching legs, putting on boots reminds me of how uncomfortable they are next to even my 10 year old Adidas Boost shoes (I'm sure there's better tech out now). In the end it's just leather, cork, and maybe some thin foam or rubber, with a heel at that, not really any better than a pair of slippers. I'd probably prefer a zero drop steel toe boot if I have to be on site.
you should cut in half the Rossi Booma boot. They're Australian and look very similar to blundstones. I've heard they're pretty good quality.
I bought the 8 inch classics because I wanted a taller steel toe boot that wasn't a moc toe or tactical boot. I also thought $150 was around where they should be. I got them over Ariats because I thought they looked cleaner. One thing about that external counter cover is that it's quite a bit higher than other boots, I couldn't find a way to walk without the boot bunching up and jamming into the back of my leg. Extremely uncomfortable boots. Also the toe bulges out in a weird way, it's not just bulbous. You can see where the boot is tight behind the toe, very strange looking.
I had a pair of their Service Boots in Oxblood. I wore the hell out of them and had them resoled, which was done poorly and I ended up throwing them out. I would love another pair.
Hey Rose, I went down the rabbit hole 3 weeks ago for new work boots and you sold me on Rock Rooster... However, they came out with a brand new 8" boot that I think you should review. (ROCK ROOSTER Mantua Men's 8 inch Dark Brown Soft Toe)
I have a pair of these old Chippewas.
Built like a tank, they are on their second or third soles, I can't remember.
One of my life goals is to outlive them, but I kind of doubt that will happen.
I have looked but not seen it on your channel. maybe I'm overlooking it but if you ever reviewed a Russell moccasin? I am very interested in them but it's hard to find much information on CZcams outside of their channel.
Have you ever done Frye boots? My wife has a decent looking pair, made in Mexico. I notice they also have some claimed made in USA versions.
You should check out the Drews boots logger series, made in mexico.
I want to see what you think of the "full grain" leather they use...
@RoseAnvil Hey, what brand of jacket is that?
What do we like for USA made insulated heritage boots?
I would love to see the difference between these heritage boots and the Chippewa logger boots the ones made in america, it would be cool to see them side to side comparison
You should check out Duradero boots, they seem pretty good
can you do a video on the yeezy knit runner boots. Those would interested bc it literally says waterproof on the shoe.
it would be really cool if you could go there and save them with a new boot design. A lot of nice, hard working, an talented people would line up to knock it out.
I've been thinking of picking up a pair of boots in that price range soon, what do people think of these vs Thursdays? I'm thinking the Thursdays are likely the better choice.
Thursdays are almost certainly better, but these days you might have other better options in that price range, including other options made in Mexico. Freebird, Duradero, Grant Stone B Grades, and Thorogoods on sale. Meermin and Wilcox make great service boots, even though Wilcox's customer service is garbage.
Review the Irish setter logger boot please
I looked and can’t find it, have you done the Earl Shaffer 75th Anniversary Boot?
Id really love to see weston check out the new jk western boots, i wonder about them
I'm very sad.
I bought the second tier " katadain " boot in 2012. $150.00 V 100 soul.
Cheap leather, but made in USA.
BUT for yrs I wore the SERVICE BOOT.
My first pair were like 50 bucks! I was 8 or 9 years old.
My last pair were bought in the 1990s for about 125 if I remember correctly. Very hard to break in but lasts very well. One pair I had saved my foot, accident with a axe in the woods.
That is the pair with thick leather. They had the Indian logo on the side and on the outsole. Hard like a iron ranger.
But the newer one wasn't half the boot even at nearly twice the price!
I'm 60 years old and I switched to Red Wing.
Very sad about Chippewa. But at least I still have my Arctic 50s. Warm dry feet in cold winters.
Hey would you be interested in doing a review on the Filson uplander or their service boots?
Please do a review of some motorcycle boots. Some of them promise a lot for a fairly affordable price (tcx blend 2 or held Saxton)
Also the Keen Cincinnati 90 degree heel boot is 195 dollars, made in India, welted moc toe and advertises tough leather and comfortable durability
Damn. My Keen giving boots are made in the US and I got them for just under $100. They also have a Munson type last and fit superbly.
Tried 3 different keens, 5 boots. I loved those boots, only problem is they only last like 3 to 6 months, at least for me. Finally went for nicks builder pros... can't compare
@@ElLocoMonkey2012Sweet!!!
Hi there can you review Onitsuka Tiger Mexico ,cut it in half just like u always did and show us its not BS thank you
Please review Thursday Casa-moto boot in gloss black. Most comfortable boot I've ever worn. The captains are not even comfortable compared to these boots. I have spoiled myself and can't wear other boots now.
I realize that you do mostly hard work boots, but could you cut and review some Dansko's? They are used by Nurses and cooks and chefs (people who are walking a TON daily) and would love to see how they hold up.
Hey I just watched a big handfull of your videos. Any chance you'd make a take on motorsport shoes ? The likes of PUMA. I fancy myself SPARCO, but there is a lot to choose from.
Please do the duradero boots
Can you do a pair of the baobabs from Jim green? They seem like a superior boot for a very similar price
Found the jacket! It’s Australian, Deus Ex Machina Maxwell Padded Overshirt
I have been wondering how would a boot be made that has durability and initial comfort but also have continuous comfort once broken in? Can it be made somewhat affordable also?
So. I bought the steel toe. Style: NC2081 recently... Before they stopped making them in the usa I had bought maybe 4-6 pairs over 15+ years... The USA version I usually would get them resoled or if the resole failed (due to bad cobblers) I would buy another pair. They would easily last over a year with daily shop use and look better when they age. I bought the new made in china version last week and when they showed up they feel completely different. Lighter and just softer(not a good thing). There is absolutely no shank support and you can easily bend in half so as a work boot they are not usable. I am returning them and unfortunately I need to find another boot to wear. Down goes another USA brand.
This felt like a rose anvil 2 video. It felt like he was more rambling than a structured video than usual
Where can I get a old pair of Chippewa boots and are they still available? Need insulated and waterproof
Georgia giant 6” work boot soon please it’s not lined like the Romeo same bottom but completely different upper/internals
Which are the best boots for casual ?
These boots and the rock rooster are probably made in the same Chinese factory
I'd love to see a pair of Allen Edmonds at some point!
Please do a video on Reebok Club C 85 Vintage
What about the Jim Green baobao boot
Love your videos! Miss the cat
What is the jacket he’s got on?
Excuse me, Dr. Boot, please review some low-cut, boot quality shoes. I would love to see the thursday statesmen cacao. Thank you.
Pleeeeeeeeze do the redwing roughneck. Ok. Moc toe, but so is your rock rooster. Wayyyyy better boot. Leather lasting board / insole/lasting board . Vibram lugged sole. Leather vamp lining. Briar upper. For this king of boot, at that price, the standard. Personally, I skipped the iron ranger to get the leather vamp lining. If it were done long ago, this boot would be the one you use to evaluate the others. Or, I’m wrong, like a bunch of others who have asked for this, once unique, now copied boot to be featured.
Keep on keeping on.
Hey Weston! I think it is a bit overpriced, but so are Blundstones and other brands. I also think that it's unfair to compare these to the $270 Service Boot that they used to make. Those were trying to compete with RW Blacksmiths or 1,000 Mile Boots. This is more of like their affordable casual entry boot in a heritage style. Very similar to the Apache Lace Up Boot that sometimes came with a Vibram Gumlite outsole instead of the Lug one. I had an Apache Lace Up boot with the Gumlite outsole a few years ago and it was VERY comfortable, way more than the Service Boot. I think at the time I paid like $150 on Amazon. Could you do a review of this current Chippewa Classic 2.0 with the regular Gumlite outsole? And maybe compare it to other comfort style boots like Blundstone 550s and Thorogood Moc Toes? Thanks man, take care!
Dang Thursday seems like a great value lol
Can you lean on thursday to make a round toe heritage boot!. That would be poifect.
I would be curious to see more real work boots reviewed and compared, some of the redwings work line and keen Cincinnati mock toe, safety toes are required on almost all professional jobsites nowadays and there's not much good reviews on them.
Agreed. Although that might need to be a "Rose Anvil 3" channel or something, because the materials, construction, etc. can be very different to heritage style boots. For example, the station/wildland boots that a lot of our structural firefighters prefer for both functions have molded/cemented construction and coated/patent leather, while the wildland-only workers tend to prefer heritage style logging boots (but can't always afford them).
Who makes the best boot?
Please check out Silverado boots. Made by Abilene boot company. Based in Somerset PA. Claims to be USA made
I regret not buying those boots a few years ago.
