    Jim Green Boots Review - Jim Green Boots just sent over their first batch of 2500 boots to the US and so they sent me two pairs, one to wear and one to cut in half to see what's inside. People have said these are some of the great value work boots and the best budget work boot. Jim Green has some unique advantages because they build 100% of their boot in South Africa that allow them to sell their boots for significantly less than most companies.

    • @KT-cz7rm
      @KT-cz7rm Před 6 měsíci +2

      Finally snagged a pair. Mine came with an odd looking insole with parts plastic and leather. So far it's been okay, but it's not substantial leather like in redwing and heritage style boots. Might buy a leather or arch support insole. The boots are incredible. Great unique style, wide toe box, quality all around. Breaking then in fire hiking/light work. Similar leather hiking boots are usually insanely pricey. I'd have to work almost 2 days to afford danners heritage leather hiking "mountain light"s.

      @@KT-cz7rm got a pair of razorbacks last month and I can say they’re definitely not like the pair Dan disassembled. For one the inner lining leather is gone and the inside is straight rough out leather. The next change is the elimination of the top fiberboard and they’re just relying on the insole to press lock into the leather fiber midsole ( which works as it’s pretty locked in. Lastly they’re more like the insole on the African ranger now with the Texon style second fiberboard unit removed

    • @zachmiller9175
      @zachmiller9175 Před 3 měsíci

      @@KT-cz7rmthere's actually a newer insole than that now, the 3 pairs I own all came with different insoles, I have a pair of stockman's which came with the old style with the foam patch, my African rangers came with the ones with the plastic heel cup, and my tyre sole limited run razorbacks came with a much nicer leather topped foam insole with some built in arch support. I've replaced all of them with spencos though because they're the most comfortable thing I've found by far, they're what Nick's boots recommend.

    No offense intended at all, but there is no real surprise here. People in Southern Africa are generally very very skilled at finding the perfect balance between quality and price...and knowing where to put that quality to get maximum use. Farm culture! In 2001 I bought $5 suede chukkas (YES, $5) in Zim that lasted me about a decade. About three years ago, I was in Joburg and paid $15 for a similar pair and the sole has hardly worn at all and the stitching is still in great shape in spite of daily wear in the summer. "Made in RSA" when it comes to shoes and shorts and shirts is generally a strong buy signal. LOL!

They are well-known here in South Africa and are worn by many farmers, game rangers and people who work a lot in the bush. My first pair were a pair of Razorbacks as a 15th birthday present and I cherished them dearly. They were quite tough to break in, but once they were broken in they were great. My son has been wearing Doc Marten Chelsea boots for about five years as his daily school shoe. By the end of the year they are just so thrashed. Last year a chunk of the sole just broke off his boots. It was crazy. It looks like Jim Green makes a pull on Chelsea that is similar in the same price range. Gonna give it a shot and see if we can get a pair that last at least until he outgrows them...

    Great tear down, the boots definitely look like they're worth the price.
    On the hard soles...if you are going to be on uneven terrain you need a hard soled boot. A soft sole boot walking over rocks, stones, small changes in terrain, logs, etc. can actually bruise your feet over the course of a day (or at least make the soles of your feet sore). This is one reason a lot of trekking and serious hiking boots have hard/stiff soles. Not great for pavement and not needed for indoor use but definitely worth it for work and play in the dirt.

    OK! I love this series, and will return to it soon. A little broke right now, so going for the Jim Green, which will probably be about as good as anything I've ever had! This is a tremendous insight we're getting here, it sure has never ocurred to me to cut up a pair of boots! PLUS I've only ever heard of maybe two of these brands. A main thing for me is having wide feet, and being cursed through life in a world where people want shoes to have pointed toes, and the largest size is 11 or 12. I have gone whole YEARS looking for something that fit, before stuff like online sales. So, having wide sizes, or a square toe, or a MUNSON LAST (?) is the impossible dream. At this moment I have great hopes for the JG thing, 1/2 size up and just hope it's inherently wide. Later I'll have more money and can really try harder.

    I have had a pair of these boots for nearly 2 years. I bought them Amazon for around $90! I have a bone spur on my heel (never stopped my joining up!) so the took about 3 weeks wearing alternate days to break in. Plus corn plasters. They are superbly comfortable and I do wear both for hiking and on concrete all day. But I did put a quality insole in. I also have a pair of Redwings and they are not a patch on this Jim Greens. Wow, I'm amazed. They are very popular indeed here in Mzansi and pricey. Very interesting to hear how they compare to other brands in the same price bracket. These boots are made in Nottingham road in KZN. The review is accurate, I've used these boots n they are very tough. However, they require polishing. I use hiking boots at work. I cover extensive mileage on foot. I now use boots with Goretex and Vibram. Maybe Jim Green will yield to pressure from other markets and make a boot with latest technology. This should be their next direction because they are more than capable.
