- Here is a new video !!
This is a model train produced by Fleischmann around 1944/45.
It's pretty rusted and the clockwork mechanism wasn't working .
Most of the parts are so thin that I couldn't do sandblasting... I decided to clean them using electrolytic pickling. It has removed the old painting and also the rust !!
Please watch till the end to see this antique locomotive in action !
By supporting the channel you help me make more of these video and find more amazing items.
I hope you'll enjoy this restoration.

Thank you ! - Jak na to + styl
This was great! Highlights for me are the fabrication of a new wheel and the "pickling" method to remove all of the old paint and rust. Given how damaged this toy was in the beginning, it is amazing that you managed to return it to like-new condition. Kudos!
Thank you so much William 🙏
Is pickling different than electrolysis?
@@Castleknight Nope it's the same process. The + becomes the - and the - becomes the + 😀

Damn, never expected to see something like that on a toy of any kind
A big step up from “Made in China”
I have a fleischmann live steam stationary plant toy with made in east germany on the bottom.
Made post ww2 in occupied Germany -probably 1946 when reconstruction started- (once i saw an old sewing machine that stated "Made in Occupied Japan")
Remember, after the war, Germany was divided into zones. The Russian zone became East Germany, and the three other zones, British, French, and American, became West Germany. Same thing with Berlin. So this was a wonderful thing to be made so soon after the end of the war.
Dates it nicely.
pretty nice.....its good that these old fashioned toys were put together simply with simple fasteners that can be disassembled non-destructively....rivets and harsh glues and epoxies weren't used during the zenith era of toy making
A new coat of paint with some new parts never hurt

Once again you have painstakingly restored something that seemed beyond hope, too fragile to do. Very enjoyable to see. Thank you.
🙌 That was a tough work 😥 Very fragile as you said.... Thanks a lot for your comment and your support 🙏
I hope people stand well back away from the platform because that giant key will sweep everyone away.

What a remarkable achievement, in the beginning I thought you were going to remake most of the parts and I actually thought, remake not restoration. I am impressed with the way you achieved your aim throughout this project. Very nice job thank you.
🙌 Thank you very much Bernie !! 🙏
Hi again. 👋 I agree with a few commenters. You put in a lot of work including filming, editing and story telling, have a special patience and joy (it shows), but the result to us is an incredibly relaxing, mesmerizing treat to watch. It makes you forget all of your troubles for a moment. That's your additional gift to us. Thank you very much for it! 🤗💚

I look at this and wonder, “How many toy soldiers, wooden blocks, or other such items did this train “carry” throughout it’s lifetime? How many children held this toy like it was the best thing ever?” Restoring this is like restoring memories and artwork. Love these videos, I could watch them all day long! 😊🤗
Thank you !! Always touching to bring the memories back 🙌

@@TheFabrik hallo... nice to meet U :)
Thanks for sharing friend
These trains are the definition of scrapped
Now, take a moment to think of the manufacturing of this little train....all of the individual components. Most, if not all of it was hand made. That's quite a lot of work for a clockwork toy, and probably took quite a lot of time when you add up the time for each part. The time and care you spent on it was well worth it. Nicely done.
Most of these restorations are on toys, but the skills involved in what you do rival the skills of a master watchmaker. Awesome.
Приятно наблюдать как Вы практически возрождаете историю. И теперь эта чудесная игрушка не сгниёт, а будет радовать глаз не одно поколение. Отличная работа 👏👏👏💝

This restoration, and all the processes, are so cool! But, if I was you, I would add a bit more lining and use silver paint on the smokebox door's numbers. If only we could do this to old warship wrecks...
I like how its actually a thing that could of existed back then instead of one that has things that didn't exist back then
Now that's what I call restoration.
Love the "Made in the US zone" marking.
Cold war toys... Have few more recent HO models build beyond the iron curtain. Strangely good models, finely detailed, built to a high standard. Wonder who could have bought such things at the time, there...
Very impressive work by the way. Just perfect job.
Looking at that engine it’s hard to believe what it looked like before. I love steam engines so watching you do this was wonderful. It was lovely to see how you dealt with the state of it and how you brought in back from the scrap heap. You are a true artist.

A master-class in restoration. MInd you, the model was very well made in the first place. Germans were, and probably still are, the worlds best toy makers. Bravo!

The Matt black gives a nice look.
First of all: A great restoration and a superb video!
About the Toy: The Company that produced these Locomotives in the 1950s is called "Gebrüder Fleischmann" (as the video description tells). That's what the GFN stands for on the front of the Locomotive (Fleischmann brothers).
The Toy was made in a town called Nürnberg (Nuremberg) and coincidentally this town was the Startpoint for the first railway in Germany on the 7. Dec. 1835 between Nürnberg and the town next to it, Fürth.
But, as beautiful as the Locomotive and its tender setup is, its actually wrong!
Fleischmann made two Train sets:
- One with this Locomotive and two passenger wagons: Called "Uhrwerk-Eisenbahn" ("Clockwork Train" because of the winding mechanism) It never had a tender originally. The Loco has a coal bunker at the back of the drivers cab, like many shunting engines had at that time.
- And another one with a larger Locomotive + tender and three wagons wich ran on 25 Volts Current: Called "Elektrische-Eisenbahn" ("Electric train" nothing to add to this! :P)
But many german children did swap the tender like this and its better to be restored like this than tossed away!
In conclusion: Great work bro!
Thank you very much for your comment and also for all these infos !! I didn’t know about the story of Fleischmann. I bought this train with this key and this tender. Here is a nice link 👉 www.tcawestern.org/fleischmann.htm
Thanks again !!!

This reminds me of the scene from toy story 2 where the guy is fixing woody
imagine doing this to a actual abandoned steam locomotive
What I like most about these toys is how mesmerizing they are. You can play with them for hours and grow your imagination.
We have come a very long way with model trains, but it is nice to see there is still a place in our heart for things of the past. Lovely video, thanks for sharing.

Since you restored a model train, pls restore a real life one
Haha yeah !! I’ll probably need your help then... 😵😁

Simply brilliant. Well done on bringing a complete wreck back to life. You have used some amazing skills in repairing the damaged loco and keeping a unique toy from being thrown out.
Many thanks ! Glad you enjoyed 😃🙌
I always find it very sad to see poor old toy trains that were stored poorly and ruined by rust, as well as badly broken parts... sometimes I will come across some like that, and try to save something, but it takes a good deal of effort to do so, and a lot of tools and equipment I don't yet have access to.
I think the thing that I was most amazed by, was the way in which all the original wheels were saved- most people would simply replace a broken wheel, yet you had a technique which produced a very satisfying looking, and most importantly, functional, whole wheel! I imagine with not too much use the paint wears off and the color mismatch starts to show, but this is a very useful strategy for a case when a new wheel might not be possible to purchase or make.
Sometimes when people say "this cannot be saved", the truth may actually be "this would require more effort, resources, and time then we could justify". For the joy of seeing something come back to life, though... maybe it's worth the extra effort!
Thank tou so much for all these kind words. I’m always trying to do my best. 🙌
