Daym, the ribs were probably not smoked. Most likely roasted with chicken base and liquid smoke in water
Or....pressure cooked and "finished" with the liquid smoke and chicken stock.
Or even worse, boiled and then slightly seared afterwards xD

So, a few things I'll add here. 1)Tri Tip absolutely should have been sliced, and sliced correctly. It's an absolute game changer when it comes to tri tip. Not Daym's fault whatsoever. This should have came sliced by someone who knew what they were doing. The grain changes at least once in tri-tip, and should never be sent out unsliced to a guest, especially a guy with a camera. Also, no tri tip should ever be sauced. Maybe on the side, maybe on the plate, but never coated in sauce. Furthermore, just don't get ribs in corporate restaurants. Hell, even actual established BBQ restaurants I generally don't order them. This is one of those things it's just so much better to watch some good YT vids and make them yourself. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
You are so right! I grilled up two beautiful tri tip Sunday. After the seasoning and cook, the slice is most important. The ones I got were great but the crazy grain changes were challenging to slice but you just gotta know what you are doing and pay attention. I’m from Santa Maria California where tri tip is THE bbq to get…sauced tri tip is an abomination!

Wait what happened
From a BBQ Legend you never serve a cut of of meat like Tri-Tip not sliced. Your typical customer doesn't know to cut against the grain. As for ribs I serve my ribs either without sauce, or a light glaze. Them ribs weren't smoked, more than likely baked or pressure cooked...there was NO smoke ring. Plus a cut like Tri-Tip, seasoned properly doesn't need 1 drop of sauce, the steak should be the star. Don't play with me, I'll be severely depressed if the best places ribs ain't got no smoke ring!

My girlfriend and I went to BJ’s in Toledo, OH and it was was horrid. We were laughing about how bad the food was. The waitress didn’t come back once to check on us. We sent half of the meal back. Never again!

BJ's in Nanuet, NY is fire! Went there recently with some friends and their ribs were fall off the bone tender and flavorful. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We got some apps and they were bangin'. Their beer selection is pretty limited for a place that calls itself a brew house. But the ones they had were pretty decent. I got a nice high ABV stout that paired really well with the ribs. I have to mention that in this area we have SO many incredible restaurants and pubs, and we knew we were going to a corporate restaurant, so no one was expecting anything special. It was just a convenient mid-point for us to meet up at. We all left pleasantly surprised, happy, and full

თბილიში ვარ. There are other cities in the world besides American ones. I am in Tbilisi. We dont have access to Netflix here, or many other things that sre popular in North America.
Instead there will be access to some movies and shows, but Russian films would be more popular than Netflix shows. When I tried to find Daym's shoe i could not. But great that my situation made you laugh.

@@aaronwilson5978 I got the same thing Daym got there. The tri-tip was tough and so were the ribs. My gf also got ribs there and same thing for her. Not a go to for us, rather do Little Taste of Texas in SW not far from there and their ribs are fire
I think that was a little low. Cleanliness and good customer service I think should have bumped it up a bit more.

These places slapping a thick crust together and calling deep dish pizza just blow my mind. That was most definitely not deep dish pizza.
PERSONALLY I would have given more detail in the negative review. In a positive review, it is simple, good is good. BUT a negative review is not only to tell the truth, but to inform the restaurant. In my opinion, the goal is not to cut down the restaurant, but to inform them of what they need to do , need to change, to make the meal experience better.

you nailed it, bjs is just an expensive chain all the food cooked in a central kitchen and shipped in and warmed up at the restaurant all these chains are gross applebees fridays bjs etc best to stick with local mom and pop shops!

In my exp. If you dont pre brine or put on a good layer of spices brown sugar and rock salt befor smoking it was a disservice to that meat. Then you gently wipe that off and put on your homemade rubs or sauce smoke for 8 hours low and slow. Then feast on that mouthwatering chunk of heaven that your grandma would be proud of.....

The BJs in my town is always decent. I’ve never had a bad experience. At the end of the day it’s a chain restaurant, but a good one where I’m concerned.

Daym go to Cali and get tri tip we do it right out there. I legit used to bbq them and sell them and people tell me it was amazing. I went to BJ's here in Cincinnati for the first time this past weekend and had a similar experience. The tri tip was very chewy and the grilled chicken was very basic without much flavor. The mashed potatoes were pretty tasty and the salad was decent.

Ribs are usually always sauced up like that. Gives the inner meat so “marinade.” It’s unfortunate because a bunch of punch don’t leave reviews when the food is good. Also, depends on the cook. When a restaurant hires a teenager, they most likely don’t know what they’re doing
