@@user-hh5hs3zr5b The risk to developp deficiencies is lower in case the diet is complete and balanced. It's clear and obvious we need vitamins that a vegan diet can not provide. B12 is just a classic example. Some people still believe that we don't get enough B12 because of modern agriculture, pesticides and overwashing fruits and vegetables, but it's not smart at all to believe this theory, as the one who know the vegetable and herbivore anatomies knows how their stomach and intestines are composed and works to absorb pre-existing vitamins in the vegetables, which our intestine's anatomy and physiology could not. And which we get from their meat. Try to go on a strict vegan diet in a cold/ minus degree weather for a couple of months or a year and you will know that this diet is not sustainable.

They've missed a trick here by not controlling for processed food intake. Either they should have allowed both a set amount of ultra-processed foods (burgers, fries, desserts, sausages) or should have had both go without it altogether. A lot of the large observational vegan studies show better outcomes, but that could be largely because the vegans are more given to consciously avoiding refined crappy food. In India, there is no diff in life expectancy in pre-dominantly veg states (Gujarat) and meat eating states (Kerala) when they're in the same GDP per capita range. This could be because Gujaratis are veg culturally, so their vegetarianism isn't a conscious dietary desicion and so they're as likely as others to eat crap. Strongly feel that vegan studies in the West are skewed because of this simple fact that when you choose to be vegan and have the will power to stick with it, you're also much likelier to choose to eat healthy and have the willpower to continue eating healthy. In a controlled study, they have missed a chance to control for what seems like a very obvious additional factor.

vegan diet is not healthy long term as only meat can provide with mineral necessary for our brain to function well. there is no plant based alternative that we know off. Some vegans experience brain fog, irritation, exhaustion only years after being vegan while others cannot last even days. India has tradition of vegetarian diet (not vegan) and climate of eating fresh vegetables and fresh spices all year around and also they use ghee which is clarified butter and paneer which is cheese made of yoghurt so mostly not vegan but vegetarian.

This is just another slanted study to promote eating vegan. If vegan long term were what these studies want to imply they would not have to muddy the water with processed foods, sugar and junk being eating by the other half of the study. Carnivore diet with or without dairy is far superior long term than vegan or vegetarian. Plus the wild animals might have a change to recover if we were stopping industrial agriculture. Talk about murdering animals 1000 to one killed on a vegan diet verses a carnivore diet..True fact!

Interesting study, but it still made the same mistake as I have seen in other discussions IMO. The biggest thing overlooked in this and many other vegan vs. "xxx" discussion diets is the fact the original diet of the individual who "turns vegan" is often, already unhealthy or the person had lacked original awareness of their daily diet. This is particularly underscored by how one of the twins commented how he was surprised how his "meat diet" composed of processed foods - why? You can eat very healthy foods including healthy, non-processed meat and dairy. I lived in Japan and the Japanese diet includes a rich variety of meat, fish, dairy, vegetables, fruit, etc., and it is still considered one of the healthiest in the world. Vegan diet seems to be so western-focused because food lifestyles in the West have declined steadily and this is also exhibited by research highlighting how there are obesity, diabetes and other health problems arising from poor diet and lack of exercise in Westernizing cities or Western countries compared to other parts of the world. If "going vegan" works for you, then great. My point is that food quality and general awareness of nutrition are fundamental in addition to exercise for leading a healthy lifestyle.

Just this weekend, I ran 44k as part of my marathon training and I couldn't believe that I actually barely felt any effects the day after. The biggest obstacle is the preparation of a balanced meal and finding the proper ingredient in an animal heavy marketplace. But, I enjoy cooking so I'll enjoy figuring out new combinations.

Turned out to be a non issue, I still performed very well and did the toughest ultra endurance MTB ride of my life in addition to great gym gains. However I didn't get a huge boost to energy levels as I was eating healthy/diverse before and already didn't do dairy. I love that in the vid they called out the fake meats and other vegan snacks being no healthier than processed meats in a 'normal' diet. I understand that they can help people who are used to eating a lot of meat convert over for ethics, but in terms of health they're not good. The takeaway is really to get that diversity of plants to help your gut microbiome, avoid processed foods and eat natural as much as possible regardless of vegan/omni. Health will follow.

I eliminated congestion (I no longer snored at night, I became a quiet breather,) I dropped a LOT of weight without even dieting or trying to lose it, my blood pressure dropped by a large amount (I had very high blood pressure before) and I generally just looked and felt better. Better stay away from processed plant based foods then as they are likely to increase heart disease and not reduce it.
With Cancer, you will still be getting cancer just as easily as the next person so if you drink or hang around people who smoke or even live in a city with street pollution, they all can give you cancer but sure, eating healthily can reduce some cancers but you dont need to not eat meat to to be healthy as it's about a healthy balanced diet and you are more likely to reach that balance with meat than without it though over eating on meat is bad for you.
As for Diabetes, you are more likely to get it simply by being over 40 naturally or 25 if you are from African or south Asian descent.
Issues with a vegan diet is the lack of nutrients with Anemia, depression and thyroid issues being the top problems and they in turn can cause further issues like triggering the big three that you mentioned above. My mum is a vegetarian and has been for most of her life, over 35 years and she's been overweight throughout all of that time so she is still likely to suffer from the issues you mentioned and I've dated a couple of vegans, both had severe anemia and one also had a thyroid problem and both were depressed... That all said, the vegan diet can work for some but for many, it will and does cause serious issues that have been noted by doctors and the scientific community.

From roughly 20 to 30 or so I was a vegetarian. Vegan for maybes 3 years. I didn’t drink alcohol. I danced for hours a week. Climbed on the weekends out doors and worked out with high reps.
I’m in no way saying anything negative about that experience and will say I would do well to move at least halfway in that direction as at 54 I’m not as healthy but I did two experiments back then that I’ll note. One is about creatine. Naturally you would only get it from meat eating which by the way is natural. At the time I would do 5 sets of 8 pull ups. I took creatine with my caveman body would have been craving. In two weeks I could do 5 sets of twelve. It was amazing. The incredible jump was because of my dietary lack of creatine.
Then at 30 I injured my leg.
As an experiment I tried without any preparation a Low carb diet. The first thing I ate was a bloody steak 🥩
No stomach upset at all after 10 years. Then after a very short time people started asking me what I was doing different because I put on so much muscle without changing my workouts.
My body needed more protein and a natural source of creatine.
At 54 I’m not as lean and healthy as I was. I need to lose fat and improve my cardio. Need to stop drinking out of stress but I’m stronger and have more muscle than when I was 29.
I think the a findings here are very honest. Variety, moderation, avoiding junk and exercise. My issue is extremes.

I was vegan for 18 months, and whilst a big improvement from a standard western diet (to be honest, ANY diet is an improvement on that) but had to reluctantly ditch it as it was causing havoc with my digestive system in the end. Shame as I did enjoy it. Been on a whole food (mostly) targeted low carb (sometimes keto if I'm particularly inactive, and if I'm very active I'll up the carbs. I basically adjust the rough level of carbs based on how active I am) for 18 months now, and for me it's a better diet than vegan overall, as you're not missing out on any vital vitamins or minerals (B12 etc), and it seems to have helped resolve a number of health issues that I've been experiencing for the past 5 years (joint pain mainly).

I had a similar experience. I was Vegan for 5yrs and really wanted to stick with it. Got advice from naturopath, dietician and 3 doctors but couldn't make it work.
I felt so relieved when I added eggs and dairy. I tried that for a while and gave me a lot of what my body was missing. Eggs are amazing. Then I added chicken for about 2 years. Recently I have started eating Salmon after 7yrs off fish. I feel like I have all I need now.
I added things slowly back until I felt right. I won't be adding anything else and I'm glad as I really, really feel uncomfortable eating cows, especially pigs as they remind me of dogs. So glad I didn't need to add them back.
The only thing now is that when I was vegan a few things improved as well as things getting worse. I've tried to keep the things that worked for me from that diet, but I admit once we had access to easier sources of protein etc was less likely to cook elaborate things like cauliflower steaks, nutritional yeast dishes and eggplant. Ate a lot of eggplant and even mushroom.

Really good study. The truth is you can be vegan and unhealthy if you're eating all these highly processed substitutes. For ultimate health it has to be a whole food plant based diet and I myself have been vegan for four years and when I let myself go sometimes and get some of those fake meats and ultra processed vegan snacks I feel unhealthy but the second I got back to eating whole foods I feel amazing. My pre diabetes and high cholesterol dropped within months, I go to the gym and my body recovers so quickly that I question if I went to the gym the day before. You just feel 100% all the time, even after having a huge meal you just want to get up and run, the last time I had a food coma and just wanted to lay down after a meal is when I had meat 4 years ago or if I have those fake vegan meats, and I remember back then it was normal to just want to rest or sleep after a meal but in reality food is energy so we should be full of it after a meal.

Veganism isn't a diet. It's an ethic, to reduce unnecessary animal suffering. There are a million different diets that are vegan, each with different health impacts, and you can choose the right one for yourself, but eating animal products will only hold you back. High cholesterol is one of the biggest killers in the western world and easily fixable by removing cholesterol and lowering sat fats (your body makes all it needs of both). if you're hungry you should eat more. of course you can't focus if you haven't eaten enough food. You'll find that starving yourself on any diet will cause problems.

    • @zerocooljpn

(I wonder how you define "necessary", and whether it's really animal "suffering" or your sorriness for them what you're trying to get rid of. Either way, kind of an emotional way to pick a diet...). Agree with the ending.. it is a balanced diet. We get too caught up in labels. There is no doubt that a plant based diet is healthy for the planet and most folks. However, the Blue Zones diet/sturdy demonstrates that it is more about balance and moderation. Indigenous diets also show us that it depends on one's environmental factors. Plant based in the tundra? I'd question the logic and sustainability. **And yes, I have been vegan and/or vegetarian most my life (started in teens, now 49). Now as an adult, I have learnt to cook veg in different ways and add seasoning to make it better. Having a range of recipees really helps being healthy; I think for all diets, and I am happy with my diet now. I also feel a lot healthier now.

As far as getting optimal nutrients on a vegan diet, it's pretty simple: all nutrients come from plants. Animals don't produce amino acids, fatty acids or minerals (protein, omegas, calcium, iron, etc). They get them from plants and so can we, easily and in their purest form.
For B-12 (a fermented plant bacteria) we can get it from multiple sources, but just taking a B Complex a few time a week is the best bet. For Omega-3, I just put flaxseed in my smoothies, and romaine lettuce is also a good source. Iron -- Leafy greens, peanuts, etc.
The bottom line is humans do not need nor benefit from a single bite of meat, eggs or dairy.

Fat doesnt simply stays in the bloodstream after digestion, it's instead absorbed by the lymphatic system and then oxidized or stored. only a small part goes back to the blood, bound by lipoproteins and serum albumin.
"and impairs circulation and athletic performance."
Neither is true. In fact, fat is beneficial for athletes: "It is recommended that athletes consume a moderate amount of fat (approximately 30% of their daily caloric intake). Higher-fat diets appear to maintain circulating testosterone concentrations better than low-fat diets."
"Saturated fat stimulates cholesterol production "
Partly true, our organism requires cholesterol to produce hormones, vitamin D and are part of cell's membranes.
"and principle cause of coronary heart disease"
There's no link between healthy fat consumption and heart disease. The problem lies with microlesions in the artery walls mostly due to high blood pressure and inflammation, also not every type of cholesterol is bad, ou should worry about small dense LDL, mostly found in refined sugar, simple carbs and trans fat.
" causing insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes."
Fat doesnt affect insulin secretion, it's carbs/sugar that do that. And yeah, fat hsa the most calories but it's also the most satiating macronutrient so it's hard to overeat fatty food

    • @donwinston
      @donwinston Před 2 lety

it is a fact that saturated fat impairs athletic performance. Sludge blood is just something I made up. If you eat a meal high in fat your blood gets sticky and is one of the reasons it impairs athletic performance. But that is temporary. More importantly high fat diets CAUSE cardiovascular disease. That's a fact despite what the low carb keto twits say that you find here on CZcams. By the way there is no significant difference between large and small LDL cholesterol in size. Both CAUSE heart disease and strokes. There are some other kinds of cholesterol that are something like 10 times bigger and do not cause a problem. The big fluffy LDL is harmless lie is often spread around by keto/carnivore twits. I did not say fat causes insulin secretions. Insulin secretions is NOT harmful anyway. I said it causes insulin resistance. It gums up the cells and lessens the effectiveness of insulin. Carbohydrates including sugar do NOT cause insulin resistance unless you eat too much FOOD and get fat.You only need a very small amount of so called "healthy fats" to be healthy. Something like less than two grams. Eating more than that will NOT make you healthier assuming you eat enough calories in protein and carbs. It is a fact that populations who eat a low fat high carb low protein diet live significantly longer and have way less diabetes, and way less cardiovascular disease than populations that eatn a high fat diet.

@@winniepeg8393 You can say that about any diet that restricts group foods. The reason why there's a correlation isn't veganism or vegetarianism but the fact that people with EDs gravitate towards any restrictive diet. Keto diets also correlate with EDs. The reason they have an ED isn't veganism. You're being purposefully reductionist to vilify diets that are 100% sustainable and healthy so long as one's main goal isn't loosing weight and so long as one gets all their macro and micro nutrients.

I was vegan for 4 years, had digestive issues, pretty clean Vegan too. Whole Foods plant based. I reintroduced eggs, meat, and ghee and found a noticeable strength increase and much better recovery in training. Everything in moderation is usually the key

If people put the same time and energy into an omnivorous diet they'd be just as healthy as any vegan it not about meat or vegetables it about thinking before you eat.

Yes. From that test it was clear that the vegan was eating from a particularly good diet whereas the meat eater just gone for all the processed food he could find.
Anything consuming in a balanced way that is fresh, non-processed is a good diet. And it is always better to alternate the type of food you intake.

@@PranavSettaluri it's not processed you tard, yes the meat is cut up and processed but that's not the same as unhealthy processed foods. That's referring to stuff with inner additives and ingredients. You can have an unprocessed type of any diet.. just dont eat junk

first, we should never mix macros ever, randle cycle... we are hypercarnivore, science says this, we have no requirement nor need for any plant material in our diet at any given time
