  • Ashley and Drew’s wedding was so special, and it was a celebration of years together. Here’s Drew’s telling of their story:
“I (Drew) can't remember the exact day as we were maybe twelve when we first met, but we both attended the same middle school from grade seven to eight "Go Cardinals!". The one memory that sticks out in my mind is my grade eight math class. Our last names were one letter apart, meaning we sat together for one hour every day. I hated math, but I've never looked so forward to a math class in my entire life. My cousin Vanessa (who might as well be my sister) became best friends with Ashley, and I think our fates were sealed then and there. ps. I want to thank Ashley and Peter for helping me pass math class. These are the best answers I've ever copied.
We both attended prom together and were best friends. We both clearly loved each other. Ashley had confessed her feelings to me on our prom night and even though I felt the same way I didn't want to complicate things being close friends. The last thing I wanted was to sour our friendship if things didn't work out. We "hung out" but pretty much unofficially dated going to parties together and spending time one on one. We didn't start dating until after high school. We were both 18, Ashley was attending Mohawk College, and I was moving to Banff for a gap year. At this point, I didn't want to create a long-term relationship a few months before leaving...But I did anyway haha. We celebrated our first-year anniversary in Banff and snowboarded the Rocky Mountains together as a couple.
I asked them what marriage means to them and why they chose to marry now. This is what they said:
“It doesn't change the way I (Drew) feel, and I think the same goes for Ashley. But a wedding is magical, even for guys (and some will deny it). Yes, we love each other, but there is something special about celebrating that love surrounded by friends and family. I don't think it's the act of signing the marriage license but more so celebrating our relationship with the ones we love. The reason for getting married now is a good question. We both worked in the wedding industry and mixed with COVID and all of the delayed weddings we chose to push our wedding off by an extra year.”
Undoubtedly, this was a wedding planned by a wedding planner. The day was thought through so beautifully from the start of the day. They had a giant group of friends as their wedding party that they named “The Blue Crew” as a nod to “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” They did a first look with this massive group of friends, and it was amazing to see adults with such an incredible group of great friends. This Blue Crew was the ultimate hype crew all day, from the way they danced down the aisle to dancing for the kissing game, and two of them walked down the aisle as the “Beer Boys.” Ashley and Drew wrote their own vows and shared their life through words, and there was no dry eye in the place. They joined their guests for the majority of their cocktail hour and laughed and ate and drank through their reception in the beautiful space at Burning Kiln Winery.
It was an amazing day, and we were so happy to get to document it and celebrate with these two amazing people. Congratulations, Ashley & Drew!
