Tamiya Hotshot Build Guide Part 2 - Front and Rear Suspension Steps 9 to 14

  • Hi and welcome to Part 2 of my build series for the re-released version of the Tamiya Hotshot.
This chassis goes together very differently to most modern Tamiya kits and there are some important things to look out for. This video focusses on the build of the front and rear suspension components, build manual steps 9 to 14. I hope you enjoy the build and the odd tip thrown in here and there - Cheers!
    About the Tamiya Hotshot
The Hotshot, released in 1985, is a milestone as the first Tamiya 4 Wheel Drive chassis and the forefather of many similar chassis to come. The front and rear suspension both have single shocks and double wishbone system. The rear damper connects to the wishbones through a relatively complex system. The Hotshot chassis evolved during production, and was re-released in 2007 where the chassis has received a lot of smaller changes compared to the vintage ones.

Very enjoyable episode of vintage RC assembly class with Mr Bryan!
I love watching kits that I've never built going together in depth mate.
Very over engineered in comparison to modern stuff, but at the same time far more enjoyable to build don't you think?
This kit is sooo mid eighties Tamiya engineering...... those hub and arm assembly set ups are very similar to the front of the 959 in design, only substantially better.
It's actually a very clever bit of design there I would say.
This cars got a lot of character, and is very quirky in its own manner.... and I think that, combined with its distinctive low slung body design is what has kept it so popular still all these years down the line!
Once again, Kudos for not laughing at all those extremely awkward lines like 'sliding in the shaft with a little grease', 'popping in the balls' etc etc!
I would not be able to have kept things so professionall that's for sure! 😂
Would love to see a hot shot head to head race between you, Rob and Dom over at sandy bottom some time..... that would make for some entertaining viewing for sure!
Have a great weekend dude. 😊
    👍 👍 👍

Same here, if you're a Tamiya fan like us, you're gonna love watching any of 'em going together!
Yeah, over engineered but in such a good way! Looks like the way a TT02 front end SHOULD be!!!
These older kits certainly ooze character but as you say, that's why we love 'em!
I have to edit out the parts where I chuckle at what I'm saying, it's harder than it looks (that's what she said! 😅)
We gotta make that 4-way Hotshot battle happen! Cheers dude! 🤗👊👌👍

Great tip with using the "axles" to seat the bearings, I do that also on most kits but I never used a nut driver to push "ball studs" to ball ends (rod ends). However, we all come up with something to help cause sometimes, things ain't easy to put on .. More great tips from the Tamiya Master!!!!! ATB my friend!!!!

As for popping on ball ends onto ball studs, I use anything that will work/fit to help out... ATB to One & All on the other side of the Atlantic!!!!

Lovely to watch this old buggy come together, Mark! That front suspension is really special, I hope it's not too fragile, but certainly an interesting design! It's a privilege to build these historic toys, and for me, to watch it on CZcams! Funny to sit and compare to a TT-02B, so much simpler, it took some years to get to that realisation for the Tamiya designers, he he...
Also, those front upper arms, they looked like penguins in the video...
I need to go check your channel, did I miss an upload from you last weekend?

I'm so glad Tamiya are re-releasing these classics, I agree with you, it's a privilege to build them! Yes the newer buggies are simpler but I don't think they have the same charm. It's the funky designs that makes them so lovable!

Such a beautiful buggy to build Mark! The next vid is going to be fun its really taking shape now! its those mono shocks!!! and obviously the Shots aggressive overall looks l love but l also l really adore the Hotshots actual look and design of the shocks and love the little twist adjustable bit and the system this buggy uses especially the rear it is pure class! I always think its such a shame that folk hopup the gorgeous red mono shocks and remove all that super cool leavers set up to put the cva yellow shocks on and going to 4 shocks (like the Supershot) nothing against the Supershot suspension its awesome but by doing this it takes so much uniqueness from the Hotshot! This Legendary buggy needs to be as it is! Thanks for taking the time to do these vids Mark you know me and anything to do with the Hotshot ticks my box! Cheers buddy.
