Glenn I remember vividly being in a French lesson in secondary school, aged about 12, and a classmate showing me pictures of both the QD Manta Ray, and the kit Manta Ray, and us discussing ( quietly! LOL ) how much better the kit version was. I remember being so amazed and so so badly wanting the kit version! Glenn those magical memories mean everything to me, I wouldn't swap them for all the riches in the world my friend! Thanks as always Glenn! ( oh, btw, I never did get my hands on that Manta Ray! GUTTED! LOL ) Wes, Liverpool UK.
That’s what it’s all about my friend, the memories and nostalgia 😍
Glenn we all have moments/days where we feel that way but a good night's sleep mate and we're back running at full revs!! The manta ray looks so much better with the lining work and cockpit so was all worth it👍
Hi Glenn....Senen here from the Philippines...very awesome Manta Rey you got there...my thumbs up to you for being able to source these nice additions to a stock kit...honestly there is not much sources of those items here in my country...you have such great ideas in making a kit look more alive...looking forward to watch more of your awesome videos...more power to you and always stay healthy!!!
I’ve finally figured out what’s putting me off about the colors on this build now I like the colors everything about the body is 👍🏽 what keeps catching my eye is the two different yellows between the CVA’s & the fluorescent yellow’s. The CVA’s just look dingy IDK
I’m definitely liking the driver detail.
It’s definitely a great versatile platform
100%. Need green aluminum dampers.
Back in the 90s i had a lot of experience with shaft drive rc prepping ttech cars and have to think what that prop shaft does to the bevel gears and bearings in a crash heavy enough to flex the chassis length ways.... Once hit a hairpin concrete hairpin marker at eden park with an xk5/98 and drove the pinion gears right into the crown gears hard enough to totally lock up both gearboxes.....
Love the rad neon colors. One of my favorite bodies you've done.
Thank you 😊😊😊
I think the only other thing I would do I if were you Glenn I would try a partial arc of the micron tape around the top of the ridge that forms around the "Air Intake" (no step) to help define that arc....have a look at the box artwork - where that edge is they have highlighted the arc in white to emphasise the pronouncement. As you can't highlight from white defining with blacklining should work. The difficult bit is, you will need to cut the tape ends on a shallow angle to give the appearance of fade out, if you leave it square, it will look tacked on. I'd recommend applying the tape long first and then cutting the shallow angle point on carefully with a sharp #11 blade trying not to score into the polycarbonate. you could also try cutting the tape into fadeout from the back of the 'fuselage pod' to the side, and the 'fuselage pod' forwards of the canopy. The idea of a lot of these highlighting techniques is to give an impression of, rather than define fully. I learned this from a nerdier hobby - Warhammer 40K! Happy RC'ing!!!
The extra detailing does really step up the bodyshell.
It looked good before...... now it's a proper Tamiya Legends legendary one. 👍🤛
Another fab (vintage) chassis design I can wait to see running with traditional brushed motor.
😀
Excellent thanks buddy 😊😊😊
What a roller coaster ride of emotions!!!😄. Great video and definitely looks better with just a little trim. Brilliant!!😃👍
I didn't have the impression you were being negative. Definitly having some second thoughts, but we all do that. That being said, the shell looks great.
Great driver figure… just looks awesome. Great upgrades. I want one of those chasses!! The color scheme reminds me of something you would see from the 80s. I love it.
The cockpit and details finish it off nicely 👍
Thanks Sean 😊👊🏻
Glenn me ol mate, it looks fuckin great!
dont worry ,we all get in moods. your only human.
well done!!
Gauranga
Think that looks great Glenn, love the fluro scheme with Avante driver figure and turbine wheels! 😎👍
Thanks Rob 😊
Yer, it does look better with the black line tape Glenn, I think that's wot was missing from her👌, can't wait to see the running video. Ps big thanks for sorting out a little problem that I've been having, from day one of building my TopForce I've wanted the alloy prop shaft but could never find one on ebay, so you know what I'm sending for now lol, 👌thanks mate 👊🇬🇧
Haha excellent Carl 😊👊🏻
Its got an MTV📺 1980's Peter Gabriel look to it. . between the colours and streaky style.
Looks alot better in my opinion....really nice work
Thanks Damien 😊👊🏻
some days are better than other my friend only shows that your human lol but yes this will be a great platform for testing a few ripper motors cant wait for that yokomo 10t - make sure your treds are glued well lol cheers Glenn lobe the retro color scheme on this car :-)
Haha I’ve finally glued a full set of tyres up my friend 😊👊🏻
Glen, it doesn’t look bad. Remove the thicker line around the canopy and replace it with the 0.7 tape instead. Then use the thicker tape around the “intake” scoops and maybe around the outer and bottom edges. It’ll pop it more.
Also, yeah. I too get to those stages where I think a shell looks crap and think “great. Now I have to polish a turd with these graphics… hope it comes out alright” but in the end, it just looks absolutely mint. My Subaru XV was a body that didn’t really impress me and the more I got stuck into it, the more I loathed it. But I somehow managed to press on and wait until I got to the end and what a beautiful body shell it is! I wouldn’t recommend it because the masks and some of the detail stickers are undersized but when it’s finished, it looks heaps beautiful! Same as your Manta Ray; don’t overthink it because it’s probably nice already and just need a second opinion.
Anyway, great video as always and I’m looking forward to your next. Cheers mate.
Thank you 😊
It looks way better now. Sometimes you gotta let it rest and come back to it latter.
So so true my friend 😍👊🏻
DF01 is a great chassis. Super durable. And yes it’s normal to question your own standards. Sometimes the quickest and easiest concepts come out the best. Sometimes you put days of work in to something, over think it, and it comes out crap. Sometimes you’ll doubt yourself most of the way through a task but it comes together at the end and ends up your best work. Some builds are a real journey. Your interpretation
Of the mantaray looks sweet btw. It got hit hard with the ugly stick long before you got your hands on it. It was never going to present like a super astute or a avante. The white and fluoro is cool👌🏼
Excellent thanks you 😊😊😊
I’d take the fine line from where it is at the back and follow the line you have but then join the canopy….maybe replicate the f16/f15 canopy lines as an alternative? Keep the window surround, maybe try it with the finer line? Love the addition of the driver figure
Thanks Duncan 😊👊🏻
Still love the look of that Manta Ray! Here's me hoping that you Glenn, could use your clout to pull some strings at Revive RC and get them to produce a body kit in the style of a Nova Fox or Wild One for the TD2/TD4 chassis, I think that kind of sand racer/dune buggy look would really work on such a kit and they could use it as an opportunity to snugg the body up against the chassis better behind the front wheelsbthan Tamyia did, and a personal bear bug of mine, produce a untray! Great content as usual, I really enjoy watching you go through the whole process step-by-step and thanks once again for providing me with a lovely little haven from my regular life!
Hey Stewart
He’s actually working on a new TD4 body Set as we speak my friend 😅👊🏻
You’re all about the mods this week 👍
Haha yeah I am lol 😂. These videos don’t get the views but I think there important 🤓
@@TAMIYALegends yep definitely important, that noisy gear fix on Terra Scorcher was very useful. I shall know what to look out for on my Thunder dragon
Manta ray was always love it oh hate it for me. Imho its the neon that's throwing it off. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the feedback 😊👊🏻
White shocks would may do the trick😮
Not too bad. Actually like the rims.
Thank you 😊
Great vid again buddy and can't be positive all the time! You are allowed an off day!😉 I have to put it down and walk away and start again fresh the next day l find sometimes!😉 Looks great mate but this is your problem you have Glenn you have produced such high standards recently and produced some stunning cars its tough to be satisfied when a project doesn't quite hit the mark! Still looks cool and unique but l dig what you are saying! This one is not blowing you away!
Yeah that’s a great comment thanks James 😅👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends always a pleasure mate😉👍
I like it
We all have the WTF days just need to push thorugh and sometimes it works out.. all part of the hobby.
Great comment my friend 😊👊🏻
Looks fine to me.
Thank you 😊
Looks OK to me fella. As I can imagine plenty of people like to hand out criticism, especially when you do something a bit different like this. If you don't have any objections I think I might copy your idea but using fluorescent orange for the base colour. Those rims look brilliant.
Hey 👋🏻
Yeah please do what you want my friend 🤩👊🏻
Excellent video, mate! I really love everything tamiya, especially the original vintage models. Yesterday I received a Street Devil with a group-c chassis from E-Bay, in pretty good condition. It just needs a little care, grease and paint the body (I bought it with a transparent body. It needs a motor and ESC). My question is whether to do it brushless, with a mild power combo and if the car will tolerate it correctly or if its wear will be excessive. Greetings, keep it up!
Oh wow I’m after a street devil myself, such a cool car 😍
I’m sure it’ll be fine with a mild brushless combo in there 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Thank you kindly. I'll go brushless then!
Looks good Glenn. The chassis kind of reminds me of the BigWig? 😉😊😉
Thanks John 😊👊🏻
It looks awesome!
For me every rc car should have a driver in it, to give it more realism.
I hope you don´t mind if I copy that, and add a Avante driver to my Manta Ray.
Not at all Peter, have fun 😎👊🏻
Looks better with the added detail and painted driver cockpit, will you also use the "High speed gear set" in this one?
Hmmm good question I do have a set to fit 🤔🤷🏼♂️
You were too hard on yourself initially. It looks fantastic.
Thanks James 😊👊🏻
Like the car Glenn but those wheel covers don't do alot for me. Just my opinion. Great vid mate, black edging tape looks much better
Thanks Lee 😊👊🏻
What wheels and wheel extensions are these please? Freely available? Thanks Glenn.. I like the shell.. looks good 👍🏼
There from Revive RC, there details are in this video’s description Craig 👊🏻
paint the white bits inside the cockpit black, it will detract from the odd sitting of the driver.... :D
Oh good idea 🤓👊🏻
I use the Kyosho fine line tape.
Yeah I’ll get some on order Matt 😊👊🏻
Yeah, I still like and use brushed motors. I know brushless is tops, I guess it's because I'm old.
Haha me too 🤣👊🏻
😎😎😎😎👍👍👍
😊😊👊🏻
I have a dirt thrasher i believe is also DF01?
80,s manta ray
Thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
Will this shaft fit the top force evo ?
Yes my friend 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends cheers, will get one ordered 👍
I do t think the wing surround works, the canopy edging needs to be the same thin type as you used across the side.
Excellent thanks for the feedback my friend 😊👊🏻
Don't like the thin black line, driver needs to sit lower to look correct Glenn
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
Doh. Lol
Look at this, sir: This is why I like Tamiya so much, those details, that dedication and love for what they do. The TAMIYA First cargo of the year ceremony!

I personally don't like it. The white & neon just doesn't work. But hey, you can't win em all.
Thanks Steve 👊🏻
I think you are picke that normal, sometimes until you married the body to the pilot you don't see if look great or not, for me look great is not empty and help to hide what don't need to see
Excellent thanks for watching and leaving a comment my friend 😊👊🏻
Nothing to be bummed about Glenn they go like this sometimes - I don’t even try to paint/decal bodies because the process completely wrecks me 😂
It looks fast!!!
Thanks Wade 😊👊🏻
the lumi colors against the white looks cheap toy grade your worst shell pal sorry
No worries 😉
