  • @thortele
    @thortele Před 9 lety +13

    Cheers! Very useful video. Thanks! You could take it a step further. Shooting your images in the max photo settings does not take away sides, 16:9 takes away the top and bottom! After timelapsing in the max photo setting you do not make a video in cam, but take all the RAW images and proces them with LR-Timelapse method. Then you have much more accessible dynamic range and cropping options. All with the option to animate those. LRT also has functions to get rid of flickering and instability. It is a bit more work and a steep learning curve but the results can be stunning because you have that RAW dynamic range you can acces. Thanks again for this clip. And oh... 5600K is daylight. 5700 is a bit too cool. No problems as long you don't have skintones in the image.

    • @AlexanderThickstunsChannel
      @AlexanderThickstunsChannel  Před 9 lety

      Thanks! I've never heard of the tool but you've got my attention. I just find it convenient to be able to generate the movie in the camera. In the past I used GoPro's movie software to stitch them together.

    • @thortele
      @thortele Před 9 lety

      Yeah it is definitely convenient. But you lose all the RAW power those pictures have because the camera compresses it into that clip. Think of it as playing in Lightroom with a RAW file but have control over the hundreds of pictures in a few simple clicks.

    • @AlexanderThickstunsChannel
      @AlexanderThickstunsChannel  Před 8 lety

      +supra2k8 I tripped over a cement pylon that was concealed by tall grass. I fell into the wet grass (it rained) and continued to use the camera for the night after only drying it off with my shirt. Unfortunately the water got into the buttons, the lens mount, and inside the electronics, so now I get a garbled image when I turn the camera on. Quite sad, actually...

    I really like this, it is very useful . but 4:3 doesn't really squishes the sides. It does extend the field of view vertically. So if you forget to set it at 16:9 befor shooting. You can crop it later you would get exactly the same result

    • @o.a.m9515
      @o.a.m9515 Před 7 lety +2

      an lens with aperture under atleast f2.0 would be good and also you want the lens to be extra wide to get a bigger view of space. And also you want the lens focal length to be under 24mm for bigger field of view!

    To abort the timelapse you press Fn3 but it only works while the last picture taken is being shown and while waiting to take the next picture. With these settings 6 second exposure + 6 second dark exposure = 12 seconds and a 13 second interval that leaves just 1 second when the Fn3 button will work. In actuality you don't even have 1 second. It must be more like 1 millisecond because I was unable to abort. Instead just turn the drive mode dial away from timelapse. It aborts without asking to make a video so you have to do it in another menu.

      I use Benro. I have an A48FDS4 Monopod and a cheap, but sturdy Benro tripod that they don't sell anymore. I figured since the S4 head itself costs $169, might as well she'll out the extra $30 and get a monopod with it as well. Hope that helps!

    • @MoshiMoshiMarketingBunbury
      @MoshiMoshiMarketingBunbury Před 8 lety

      Hi Naresh,
      Bought this beautiful little camera recently, from the research I did the kit lenses didn't have image stabilization built in (though I could be wrong). I purchased the 14-42mm lense (off the top of my head) with great image stabilization, no jitters, just normal hand movement vs shaky hands. The 20mm Prime lense I purchased doesn't have the same stabilization and whilst the image quality is great, the jittering is off-putting (though perfect for a video I was shooting).
      So in short, look for a better lense if making the jump. I'm still playing around a lot with it, but so far very impressed.
      Oh and Alexander, thanks for the insights on TimeLapse - currently shooting a test night shot in terrible light (no moon or any real stars from where I'm based).
      Cheers

    • @da_yogi
      @da_yogi Před 8 lety

      Hey Moshi..
      I brought the camera too with the 14-42 lens.. Great little camera! I additionally went for the 42.5 mm 1.8 lens and i think its a fabulous investments (250$). It gives you near about the same quality as does the 1500$ worth Leica 42.5 1.2 mm.
      To those planning to go for a G7, please keep in mind where you are going to use it and accordingly opt for the PAL or NTSC version.. That is one department where the camera or rather Panasonic sucks.. Why couldn't it give both form options like it did for the GH4?
      Cheers

    watching this video make me think that te g7 could be a nice camera for astro photography as well.
    Im going to buy my first interchangeable lens camera and im between the olympus omd em 10 or the panasonic g7
    I dont know which one to buy . Both are second hand slightly used with double kit lens. I like to shoot landscapes, street photography, sunsets and twilight as well as starred nights. Id like to shoot milky way and star trails.
    Panasonic has better video capabilities and 4k pics + post focus, however olympus has 3 axis ibis and live composite for long exposure.
    What do you think?

  • @Raychristofer
    @Raychristofer Před 7 lety

    Outstanding tutorial, if the cam is In manua mode during a sunset though won't the darkening light create exposure problems?

    • @daaave_m
      @daaave_m Před 7 lety

      If you're doing a timelapse where there's a significant change in light you may want to shoot in aperture priority mode with manual ISO, however it may cause flickering, so it's best to shoot it in raw and then do postprocessing with lightroom + LRTimelapse (lrtimelapse can remove flickering and animate lightroom settings). The last step is to then export the edited RAW photos to JPEG images and turn them into a video by putting them in a sequence with video editing software

    • @delphicheese
      @delphicheese Před 7 lety

      I have seen your G80 videos. So since G80 is an upgraded G7, you should be able to try similar settings and achieve the same right? And btw did you have any luck shooting milky way or finding some info on that? I have been looking for that as well. I am on a fence to get the G80 or the sony a6500. I wanna do some astrophotography on the side too. There 's some info on sony alpha on google how to do it plus bigger sensor= i am thinking more light= better milky way. But i dont even know if G80 can do that. Technically i am guessing it should right?- but nobody has reported doing/ trying that.

    My G7 is not shooting any time lapse. I followed all of your steps but when it comes time to press the shutter release, only a single photo is taken. I used to have a Panasonic G6 which was great for time lapse but that camera died. So now, I'm forced to use the G7 but I cannot get the time lapse function to work.
    Edit: Looks like the time lapse feature on this camera only works sometimes. Seems to be temperamental. I never had issues shooting time lapse with the G6. I think what I'll do is order one of those cheap Chinese time lapse units that you plug into the camera. I used to use one of those with my G2. That should allow me to shoot hassle free time lapse on the G7.
