    In storytelling, the main issue with creating a character who's supposed to be a genius, is that the character can only be as smart as the person writing them.

    Once, I went to read the bible out of curiosity. I started with the very very beginning, genesis. I didn't go very far due to the sheer absurdity of the story. I remember stopping after the story of a character who got drunk and fell asleep naked in a tent, then was found by one of his kids, and then somehow the kid was punished for finding him in that unflattering position that he put himself in. After that I lost quite a bit of respect for whoever bases their life decisions on this book.

      @@aristola4116listen all due respect for whatever you wanna believe, but if we're gonna be interpreting every single phrase we might as well not read anything. What damn joke, btw... Canaan already existed before Ham saw Noah's nakedness. And the book absolutely *never* says that Noah was with or had Sex with his wife.
      Why would someone randomly add that he just got laid?
      The book literally says he got drunk with wine until he got wasted, in his drunk Ness he got naked and then was seen by Canaan.
      Nothing about sex or else.

      I think you couldn't have described my experience better.
      I had promised myself I'd listen to the Bible while working, just for sake of reading it at least once in my life and 2 hours ago I started listening to it (was raised catholic but didn't believe nor practiced it since very young, I had trouble believing anything).
      And you just said exactly what happened to me, I just couldn't habdle the stupidity. It sound like a fantasy story written by a 9yo srsly.
      After I seized to be offended by the realization of how I had just wasted 2 hours of my life, I realized that people back then were very ignorant and their vision of things came from not knowing. Ie: how God created the universe (completely earth centric as if the earth is the beginning of everything). Etc
      It's such a waste of my time, there's no way I'm finishing it. There are tons of books that could actually teach me something or at least be fun... Star wars is waaay better fantasy.

    • @juliee593
      @juliee593 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@aristola4116 why would "saw his father's nakedness" actually mean "have sex with his own mother"? If that's a euphemism, it's a terrible one. I don't believe you because that simply does not make sense. Unless we somehow have other examples of ancient literature where such a phrase means "having sex with your mother". But I highly doubt that, because in any other piece of literature, when a euphemism is used, first of all you can usually decipher what it means (but in that case it sounds completely nonsensical), and it always makes sense in context. But in this case it doesn't at all, because the next part of the story is that the drunk guy's other children come to cover him up because he was naked. How do you explain that? How does that relate to the son supposedly fucking his mother? It very much sounds like the passage was meant to be taken literally, because if we add in your euphemism the story becomes incoherent.
      My friend, it sounds like your teacher told you "it's a euphemism" as an excuse to completely change the meaning of the story to make it make more sense to you so you wouldn't doubt the bible. Have you heard the phrase "thought-terminating cliché"? I encourage you to look out for those things. They are phrases that are designed to make you stop thinking for yourself when your logical thoughts take you away from the doctrine being imposed upon you. Phrases like "god works in mysterious ways". In your case, it sounds like "it's a euphemism" was one of those tactics used to make you stop questioning. And it's not right. You should be free to fully explore your own thoughts on any topic you want.
      Edit: here is the story, for reference. It doesn't make more sense if we add in Noah's wife having sex with her son. In fact it makes much less sense. And Noah's wife was mentioned in other parts of the story. Surely, if your interpretation is right and the bible if the perfect word of god, then it would be understandable to all, and it would at least mention Noah's wife in the story so we would know she's involved.
      Also, I did get something wrong. It's not even Noah's son who gets punished. It's his grandson who didn't do anything wrong. Do you really want to get your sense of justice from this book?
      Genesis 9
      New International Version
      The Sons of Noah
      18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) 19 These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth.
      20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked.
      24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said,
      “Cursed be Canaan!
      The lowest of slaves
      will he be to his brothers.”
      26 He also said,
      “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem!
      May Canaan be the slave of Shem.
      27 May God extend Japheth’s[b] territory;
      may Japheth live in the tents of Shem,

      I've been teaching in colleges at all levels for many years now. From ivy League to community colleges with open enrollment.
      You would be surprised just how many people are not capable of getting very far with critical reasoning skills and knowledge acquisition. I needed to adjust my expectations a couple times.
      We all have a very strong distorting bias regarding what we consider to be the normal range of human intelligence. No one can fathom what it is like to have an intellect substantially higher than their own. But it also works the other way around. None of us can imagine what it is like to inhabit the mind of someone with a significantly lower intelligence than our own. This is why both true intellectual disability and true genius can be extremely socially isolating.
      My point: it isn't necessarily religion stunting development. We don't like to say it out loud, but some people really are simply "stunted.".
      The question for the rest of us is if we are willing to let them be manipulated, used and deceived.

      You know that athiests don't believe in dieties, right? How can one stray from something of which they have no belief in.
      Reading the bible is great advice to give to someone who is questioning their beliefs as more often than not it results in a new athiest. Follow the commandments to the best of your ability. Never giving up no matter how bitter the world can be and no matter how bitter the world can make you. It’s a life long pursuit. The Bible isn’t a book of answers. It’s a book of truths. Translating the Bible isn’t a matter of reading it from front to back. It’s a matter of reading and going forth to live your life. The truths of the Bible come to you in tandom with living the words of the Bible.
      If you are going to “read” it. Id suggest also attempting to understand it. Which takes an entire lifetime and a realization that you will honestly never truly know until the day you die.

      @@meandepiphany Scientists don't believe in the luminiferous aether anymore. It was suspected once it was shown that light traveled as a wave (the double-slit experiment) and up to that point, all waves required some medium (e.g. sound travels through air, water, etc.). Christiaan Huygens suggested it to provide the 'medium' for light waves. It was basically a place-holder for something not yet understood. The Michaelson-Morley experiment in 1887 (considered perhaps the greatest null-result of all time) set out to detect the aether. Their experiment was far more sensitive than it needed to be in order to detect it ... but failed. Today it is now understood that there is no aether. But moreover, the experiment showed that light always travels at the same speed (in a vacuum) for all observers ... even if one source of light is stationary and another is moving. Earth's velocity as it travels around the Sun is roughly 30 km/sec. This means for part of the year we are moving 'toward' some stars at 30 km/sec and 6 months later we are moving 'away' from those same stars at 30 km/sec ... yet the measured speed of light from those stars (which should measure a 60 km/sec difference) always works out to the same speed. This had consequences regarding the nature of time -- which cannot flow at the same rate for everyone in all situations. That leads to Special Relativity which linked light to the other laws of mechanics and unifies space and time into 'spacetime' (one word for one thing) ... shortly followed by General Relativity which also linked in gravity.

There were no humans for many of the "first days". And even when Adam and Eve came along did they instantly know how to write down what happened to them? My evangelical Christian sister could not answer me about how anyone knew what happened "in the beginning". I made sure she didn't use the "inspired word of God" thing where God supposedly tells someone what they should write down when they weren't actually there to see it. Anyone could say they were inspired and write any fantastic story they wanted. Thing is, Genesis is just the product of someone's imagination, or a number of someones' imaginations.

    • @WEStern-sm3ot
      @WEStern-sm3ot Před 2 lety +1

      @Donna Clark
      Little organisms divide and evolve over great time periods into larger organisms. Over millions of years, changes gradually occur: single celled organisms become multi-celled organisms and so on while other adaptations to their environments evolve. Eventually you have large enough organisms, along with many adaptations to their environments to evolve wings, egg laying capabilities, etc. (This is largely determined by their needs to survive in their environments over time). This is known as evolution by NATURAL selection. There is also evolution by HUMAN selection, which is why we have dog breeds, cows, corn large enough to eat, etc.
      The reason the Covid Delta variant is now an issue is because evolution occurs quicker in microscopic life. So, get vaccinated and take a basic Biology class or ask a Biologist if you have further questions!

      That theory is borne out by the manuscripts. There are several different versions of the stories from several sources, all combined into what became the book of Genesis: the Yahwist (Y/J), the Elohist (E), and the Priestly (P) versions of the written stories, plus others. Whoever put Genesis together simply wanted to preserve all the written versions of the "oral traditions" and had no concern for the contradictions the various versions had with each other, hence the two creation stories, the two conflicting sets of 10 commandments, etc.

Once the early Christian church was elevated by Constantine, the church establishment set about codifying their disparate beliefs - and some sources were rejected. Then ppl were brought into the fold by adopting their pagan traditions. @@lerozalico4753 Why? Because the stories are written with the knowledge at the time of writing, not inspired by some higher existence. Example: line 1: let there be light (where does the light come from?), two days later (what's a day, if the sun is not moving through the sky?) sun (finally, a star, source of light!, moon (not a source of light but a reflector of the sun) and stars (not 'holes in the sky, but just a lot more stars like our sun) are created.
      If the bible really was inspired by the Creator, how can there be so many errors in one page? If this section was written by 'just a guy like you and me' it makes perfectly sense - in that time.
      If you go though the books you can find this type of inconsistencies and lack of knowledge in almost every single page. The reasonable explanation is: 'it's just phantasy'.
      Note: the bible being made up and written by humans, not inspired by some higher power does not proof that God does not, or cannot exist, only that the bible is not written by his instructions.

      Please don't be mislead by this guy's messages. He is mocking God and will pay a great price for it as will those who follow these false teachings. It's proven. God has told the ending from the beginning. No man has EVER been able to do this with 100% accuracy; no man can do the things that God has done. Don't base your eternity on something some guy says on CZcams. Read the Bible for yourself & then you decide on your own! It's is the Living Word of God. It's as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. Please be careful who you allow to own your soul. Our souls live forever, only our bodies pass away. Our souls go to ONE of two very different places when we die: heaven or hell. We aren't all just here because of some big boom. Before the universe was created we were chosen, He knew us before we were even conceived. Guard your souls, be very careful. By now, because of what we are seeing in this world - everyone should be very much aware of the evil that exists. This is because of God's adversary, satan. The battle being fought right before our eyes is spiritual warfare, good vs evil, God vs. satan. Right now the earth belongs to satan, but soon Jesus will return and take what is HIS. It's been foretold, like everything else. Good wins! God wins! Satan will be destroyed. He knows this, he cannot win, so he's going to try to kill and destroy as many souls as he can before his time (short) is up. We can see this if we are willing to open our eyes. Right now satan is going after our youth. Just look around and see the battle of good vs evil being fought in the physical realm right now. This guys is delusional and sadly, those who follow his teachings are being led away from the ONLY ONE who can save them. Don't trust your soul to one of satan's minions who only wishes to destroy your soul and keep YOU from ever reaching your full potential in the Lord. For now, satan is the prince of this world, but Jesus is the KING and He will rule forever in due time.

    Like Yahweh battling leviathan resulting in the creation of the earth (Maybe this or another has something to do with the "Let US create mankind in OUR image")
    Or when God created man and woman. Then later made Eve from Adams rib (that's because the first woman was Lilith, who was yeeted out of Eden because she wanted to ride cowgirl instead of take it missionary. Being equal to Adam and not subservient to him and all that)
