  • In this episode of Lyles Garage, we swap out a defective thermostat and replace w a new one in a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder base model w a 3.5L v6.
    Vehicle had a “check engine” light come on. Checked w the code reader, it gave a code and coolant system failure that was likely the thermostat. I had noticed the vehicle did have a longer warm-up time, which confirms that it was having a thermostat failure. After replacing, I’ve driven a few hundred miles and have never had the check engine light come on again. I hope this helps w your vehicle

    Just completed this job for a customer and I pray to God that no one has to do this garbage. Taking it out is hard af but putting it back is easy. I dropped a few bolts and they liked to hide deep in the engine bay. Man that was annoying. I think I punched the ground a few times and walked outside a couple of times. Shits Hella annoying. Especially its in a tight ass space. Good luck man

      @@chris2069081 deep sockets and swivel ratchets. You gonna have to use your imagination and feel around for the hidden bolts and loosen them blindly. If you dropped one and you can't find it you might need a flashlight and mirror because they like to hide behind the alternator. Goodluck. Also it will come with a new small gasket. If you still struggle to hold it in place with the new termostat just say fuck it and don't worry about the gasket. You'll be alright I did this awhile ago and customer never came back with leak issues. If you trying to remove the hose off. Recommend spraying silicone inside the ends of the hose and pull them out. The guy in the video breaks it down perfectly tho and I work in a dealership so I approve this method. He helped me

    That little silver cylinder that had the electrical plug in it (that was in the way of the last bolt), it slipped down on my car and oil started coming out. Anyone have any idea what that is? Is that part of the water pump? What kinda oil was that?

    • @lylesgarage
      @lylesgarage  Před rokem

      I would assume it was an oil pressure sensor, and that was oil coming out. Definitely need that put back before you drive the vehicle. Perhaps a magnet on an extending antenna tool will help fish it out? Good luck!

      @shultzy6470 Před 8 měsíci

      There are no specific tools but use a 1/4 drive 10mm socket with a swivel. Once you break them it’s honestly easier to use your fingers to get the bolts out. It’s much easier getting them back in than out.

    • @lylesgarage
      @lylesgarage  Před 8 měsíci

      I think it was a 10mm deep socket, on ratchet w extension. Good luck👍🏻

  • @theosophicalwanderings7696

    My truck needs this as well. Though I did see another guy recommend removing that cylinder thing (solenoid) It pulls out after you remove the bolt. Is there clearance to pull it down while the thermostat is still in place? Looks like it might hit the thermostat if you pull down

    • @lylesgarage
      @lylesgarage  Před rokem +1

      I don’t remember, I did this service a few years ago. I do remember it was easy to get the solenoid off. One 10mm bolt I think. I’m pretty sure you get it out of there before the thermostat

    So I have a 2015 the problem with mine is that my heat isn't getting as hot as it should. Anything I should check first before this?

    • @lylesgarage
      @lylesgarage  Před 2 lety

      I can’t honestly give a legit diagnosis through a comment section. Although, I can say from experience: if a car takes a really long time to get up to normal running temp, a common issue is the thermostat is bad and is stuck in the open position. This causes the engine to keep getting cold fresh coolant before it should. Which inhibits it’s ability to achieve normal running temp and causes it run cold for a while.
      If you notice that your vehicle takes forever to get to a normal running temp, a new thermostat might be needed. Especially if the temp gets to normal running temp after 15-20 min
      If you have a check engine light on, get a code reader ($35 on Amazon) and follow the simple steps included and diagnose it like a pro.
      I hope this helps Big B💪. Let me know if you any other questions and thanks for watching my video!

      @lylesgarage  Před 2 lety +1

      @@jphone9200 yes and no. If you drove it like that for a little it wouldn’t necessarily brake your car. But it does cause your engine to not burn the fuel correctly and the engine was designed to run optimally at around 175-190 degrees. I’d imagine eventually it might cause unnecessary wear, or damage. But, I left mine for about three weeks before I got around to fixing it.
