  • How Oil Companies Hid the Truth About Climate Change | Global Warming | Busines Documentary from 2017
    Oil companies such as Exxon and Shell have been secretly financing scientific studies and campaigns which are talking down climate change and have been influencing the public debate for 60 years.
    New documents prove that since 1957, these companies have known that burning fossil fuels changes the climate - their own, strictly secret research had revealed this. But the US oil companies did not only carry out research and then concealed their results. Since 1963, Exxon and Shell engineers have been using their knowledge about climate change to gear up for a warming planet: They built higher and sturdier oil rigs to compensate for rising sea levels and more severe storms. Pipelines in the Arctic were anchored more firmly because of the melting permafrost.
    Smoke and Fumes is a documentary about the biggest cover-up in history, which lasted for 60 years and was only recently revealed.

      They are emitting on YOUR behalf, MY behalf, everyone else's behalf. They will not stop emitting because we are giving them billions not to. Note the date this documentary was 2017, and since that time has anything changed? Of course, it has not. And it won't change until the mass die-offs of humans from rich nations from climate change begin. By then, though, it'll be way too late (actually it probably already is). Yes, it is sick. Yes, it bothers me too, but there isn't anything we can do I don't think. Humanity has and is committing sucide, and nothing you or I can do will change that. Why? Because the fossil fuels were and are in control of our species right now. It's not just about electricity either; it's about everything that makes it possible for us to be in massive overshoot and survive. Fossil fuels are the ultimate Faustian bargain, the one to end our civilization.

    Sorry, probably a dumb question. Are the oil companies the only industry to effect the planet negatively? I mean, all these trees that have been removed and continue to be, can’t be good either. Also, I did some calculations on population vs the amount of land available for farming. I don’t think we have enough farmland to feed China let alone the world. Probably should not be building cities over farmable land. Oh, and our water? We’re f#cked! Anybody see how corporate intensive farming wastes water? Climate change is ongoing since long before us and long after. The sad fact is that humankind is on the clock and that was by design. Our civilization is already in decline. The amount of children being born worldwide has dropped dramatically. Some say it’s due to women entering the workforce but I say it’s Mother Nature doing her part to force a symbiotic relationship between humans and earth

    There are too many truths about this world that are hidden from public. Problem is too many people have too many problems to care about fundamental problems. They are just trying to survive. The system is designed that way. The day it will collapse is the day people will be liberated. The population only increase at places where they have unsignificant co² footprint.
      The big problem is that people don't listen to climate scientists but instead shame and blame them for bad facts from Gore and Greta. It had not been any problem at all to invest money on development of alternatives where fosil fuel is wasted so we can use it only where no good other options exist.

    • @dritalian007
      @dritalian007 Před 2 lety +1

      @@birrextio6544 the realty is that population is increasing all over the world and where the greater of population is the greater the pollution.

    • @birrextio6544
      @birrextio6544 Před 2 lety +1

      @@dritalian007 Pollution has a cooling effect on the planet, don't try to make that equal to co².
      The reality is that the increasing population is already born, the number of children is not growing but still more than was born at the time our elders was born.
      So a pyramid shaped population graph is replaced with a barrel shaped and that is the increasing population, we can't do anything about it but we can reduce the burning of fossil fuel so the planet get to a new equilibrium before all ice has melted.

    lets pursue fossil fuel companies and then go drive home in our internal combustion engine. At least be consistent and buy a electric vehicle which still also has environmental impacts lol i mean look everything we do will have environmental impacts just populating and having babies has environmental impacts its unavoidable. best case scenario we turn into a space going species in search of new lands to live and this time start more sustainably with the benefit of new tech.
