  • Here is what is in the box of the Revell 1970 Baldwin Motion Chevelle. Modified kit released back in 2011. This is based off the Monogram 1970 Heavy Chevy and is 1:24 scale even though the box says 1:25.

    Thank you for unboxing this kit - I've been curious about some of the induction options. MSD morfed from a company in the later '70s that was doing R&D for ignition systems due to the fuel shortage crisis in the earlier half of that decade.

    I went with Joel to New Jersey to check on a restoration. The scatter shield was bright red. It was a cool contrast with the orange engine.

    Cool kit, I remember ordering this kit when I heard it was going to be released way back in 80-81 from the local hobby. I had a real 70 SS and was so excited that a 70 SS Chevelle was being released again. The AMT 70 SS had long been discontinued and the original ones were crazy expensive, at least for me back then. I liked the AMT version better and was really excited when they came out with the AMT 70 chevelle a few years back. Did build a few of the Monogram ones over the years though.....my favorite muscle car.
    Looking forward to seeing the finished build.

    Ought to be a nice build.. I did the AMT 70 SS 454: Chevelle a few months back.. overall not a bad build except that I had to do quite a bit of surgery to get the front end and grille to fit right ..

    I've built this kit. I prefer this Revell kit over the AMT kit. I painted mine red with the black stripes. Funny thing is the AMT 70 1/2 Camaro Baldwin Motion kit doesn't have the lower quarter panel decal. It just stops on the body line. This Revell kit gives you the full stinger stripes.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! The earlier releases of the AMT 70 Baldwin Motion kit had almost no decals! I have a few of them and had to by decals from The Last Detail! The most recent releases included stripes! I’m actually cutting the decals short and painting the rear section in the same manner.

      It's funny you say that because I have had nothing but bad luck with the amt version I have purchased at least 3 of them over time.. the main problem I had was the front bumper was no where near fitting on the front with the bumper. I was so disappointed I didn't even sell them I gave them away. Now for the rev mon kit I literally have about 20 kits and a load of extra parts bodies hoods glass etc. From what I understand it came out in first in 1977 and was issued in various versions. There was a red malibu.. a 454.. a custom..a 4x4 ... a donk... a Baldwin mot... and a snap to name a few. It's also pretty versatile. Stock drag street custom. The possibilities are unlimited . Sae magazine also did a review on it and claimed the mono rev kit to be more accurate of the two

  • @robertnussberger6449
    @robertnussberger6449 Před 2 lety

    I think this was one of the kits I recommend to you to build. I hope it was my suggestion the inspired yo to choose this kit. I have many of this kits from the 70 malibu , the heavy chevy, dunk style to bladwin motion. This kits had so many possibilities. I have in my plans to take a open hood from the blower one sand it down and put a piece of styrene and filler to smooth it out for a stock hood. Also use the 350 engine from the nova kit. And decals from Keith marks . Colors from scale finishes 👌

    I believe that kit actually came out around 1982 ish originally. When it was red. I also noticed the interior is no longer tub style. And, the hole is still there in the chassis, for the transfer case for the 4x4 version they had.

  • @johnhughes9019

    I just bought a copy of this kit (not sure as to why I didn't purchase it when it was new...). This iteration is a huge improvement over its predecessors; the new interior is *much* better (separate door panels, etc.).
    Out of the 1970 *Motion* Chevelles built, I don't believe that this is one of them (the white one you mention is one of them; the other is a green-on-green, column-shift TH-400 model, with bench seat, and a Hone-O-Drive) -- completely phantom.
    The intake manifold is the Edelbrock *Tarantula*, topped with a Holly 950 (maybe the oddball three barrel?), which is a sweet upgrade over the "stock" (poor representation) LS-6 or maybe LS-5, sans Cowl Induction ducting and correct air cleaner (the "stock" kit piece seems to represent an L-78 with standard bonnet, as the 454-sans-C.I. has a snorkeled air cleaner).
    I'll likely hunt down a set of aftermarket wheels (maybe tyres, too) to replace the stock Magnum [et alia] wheels. I hope that the AMT 'Motion' rocker covers will fit properly -- 1/25 scale vs. 1/24 sometimes work okay, but...
    Looking forward to seeing how your build comes together!

      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! Enjoy your build. This is a pretty nice version. The 70 Chevelle SS454 has a few accuracy issues but still builds up well. I built mine back when I was in High School before I had a girlfriend. I met her just after High School and was with her when she bought the 71 Chevelle that we still own today! Didn't know much about them but enjoyed building the model. Sometimes it's best to just build them and not look to closely at the accuracy!

    Just got back from a nice car show in long island ny . There were a lot of nice cars but to my disappointment no Baldwin cars. Back in the 70s 80s they were pretty plentiful. Back in the day I had a lot of friends that had Baldwin cars. They were pretty plentiful Back then in ny. Back then a lot of people that had chevys bought there cars to the Baldwin dealership to have speed work put on them. I also remember as a kid for years going to school in the morning and seeing a really wild beat up bm corvette. At the time I didn't realize what it was but it did need a lot of body work. Never knew what happened to it but I assume it was restored. The dealership is still in long island ny but doesn't do speed work anymore. To bad
