    I always dream of kit-bashing a new model. That term makes me chuckle as it sounds weird. I like to think of it as making it ready to look right. I like how more new models are outstanding in detail. An example: Converting the old '75 Dodge Dart to high detail using the '71 Plymouth Duster that's so detailed, it has a correctly proportioned small block engine. I like to research them too, like finding any differences between the years. Factories did share parts with other cars as well as carry overs to the next model year. It's all about making it look as beautiful as you can get it with what's available. But then, there's that 3D printing. Make the right part that the model's missing to make it look right. I love 1/25 scale plastic model cars!

    Wow how weird, I just finished this swap.The AMT '70 chassis and engine are yuk compared to the Revell '68. Chassis does fit , with minor mod, and I used the '70 interior tub. Fitting the interior tub is the biggest hassle. The tranny tunnel on the chassis needs to be modified (smaller) to fit the interior tub. I cut the tunnel out and ground-sanded it down and refitted. Interior tranny tunnel needs some grinding too. Tranny just fits in their. A bit of work but worth it I think. Used the '70 firewall sanded down. Also I put spacers under the rear springs to raze up the rear a bit to give it the right stance. Made the '70 Chevelle model 100% better. Love the channel Luka watch you all the time.

    The Red Alert 70 Chevelle is a Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a horse shoe shifter, and the 454 engine was painted yellow, the wheels are Motor Wheel Flyes and Spyders, Available from Competition Resins.

    The rear "tubs" in the kit(s) are actually combined inner and outer rear wheel houses...

    Wow, that kit brings back some memories. I built that car when I was a kid but I "kit bashed" it with a couple of other kits, didn't know anything about "kit bashing", I was just building it how I wanted it. I built the car and only "painted" it with gray primer and then put the black stripes on it. I cut out the wheel wells and narrowed up the rear axle, added ladder bars, and stuffed some big wide slicks from a 1956 Ford flip nosed truck under there and it sat with the perfect tubbed out stance and I had Centerline style rear wheels. For the front wheels I used a set of rims from a 1956 Ford kit called Strip Fowl, I think it was an AMT kit and it had 3 ways you could build the car. The front wheels were the thin spoked drag wheels and I thought they looked super cool. The engine I used was the tunnel rammed 427 from the Monogram 1966 flip nosed Chevelle. Man I loved that car and I had my models displayed on my dresser. I had this round mirror and the "feature" car for the week would be placed on the mirror and I used to stuff cotton balls around the rear tires to make it look like it was doing a burnout!!!!
    I gave my models away to kid in the 90s who liked model cars so, dang, wish I still had them.

    Dang, late for this one too! Need to ✅ postings more often - Aanyway, I used to grab up the AMT 70 Monte kit for this (even has A/C) but need to cut down front of chassis like real deal. But now that Revell gave us these gems...in fact, just grabbed another '69 kit at HL which is the closest year to a '70 because there were more than front-back changes in '71. BUT finally, the real '70 gem kit to get body and interior is the Revell snap kit! Great stuff again Luka

    Nice piece I have a 84 GMC and decided to convert it to R/C with pizza cutters in the front and big meats in the rear
    It’ll be to heavy for the electronics with all the details attached so I just focused on the outer shell than primed it

    AMT should have made the 70 Chevelle SS 454, 450 HP convertible from Briggs Chevrolet, driven by Ray Allen. That car was the NHRA world champion in Super Stock. It ran in SS/EA. It was dark blue with a white top, and featured Cragar SS wheels. The real Red Alert car was a 70. The real 70-72 quarters are wider than the 68-69, but the chassis' are the same.

    Love your videos, I too want to build a Red Alert Chevelle. You probably know this already so forgive me if I’m redundant but, I use masking tape to hold things together during my mock ups. I take small pieces of tape and tape the interior in and then the chassis ect. Great channel! Thanks for sharing! I love this hobby!

    I was thinking kind of doing the same thing that you're doing I have the Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396 1/25 , Model Kit # 85-4445 that you just showed & I Have the : AMT 1/25 1967 Chevy Chevelle Pro Street Model Kit - Gold (AMT876) That is tubbed out for the wide slicks & Put it all 67 on the on the 1968 Chevelle , But I didn't size it up yet to see how it would fit , If the 1968 won't work I have a : AMT 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS 1/25 AMT#1342 that might work a little better with the 1967 Pro Street Chassis because the body style are very similar with the 1966 & 1967 even though they all are 1/25 Scale .

  • @jasonyoung3690
    @jasonyoung3690 Před 4 měsíci

    I would have used the 1969 Chevelle instead of the 1968. The 1968 Malibu/Chevelle had what they called at the time "Astro-ventilation" wing vents, those pesky little triangular windows at the forward front of the door glass area, but the 1969s did not have this, just the same as all of the 1970 and later Chevelles. BTW, the area you referred to a "wheel tubs" are actually called the wheel well. We car geeks only usually call them "tubs: when they've been super enlarged for much larger rear tires and wheels by us hotrodders.
    I bash kits all of the time to get vehicular versions that the major kit manufacturers would never even think of producing... EVER! I have been bashing kits like this since I was an elementary school kid in the late 1960s. One of my current projects is bashing a Moebius 1965 Ford pickup (any complete cab and interior of that truck model will do from whatever version of those 1965 Ford pickups by Moebius) into a 3/4-ton 4x4 pickup using the Moebius 1972 Ford F-250 3/4-ton 4x4 Ranger pickup with snowplow chassis/frame/running gear (Moebius #2568) and combining it all into what is known as the "wrong bed" version with the "wrong" pickup bed during that time period, using that of the AMT 1960 Ford F-100 pickup bed (from kit #AMT1407). Ford truck loyalists still bought the pickups they needed from Ford, even with the mismatched cabs and beds as they still functioned as a work truck for those guys who needed a working long bed pickup for the farm, work or business but still preferred Fords over Chevys and Dodges and they didn't really care too much what it looked like. The reason this occurred was that Ford ran into production problems with the long-bed pickups from 1961 to 1965 due to labor shortages and union strikes, and they ran out of the available long beds of the newer design of this production run. I know, my modeling is out there in The Twilight Zone for sure, for many simpler model builders. I tend to go overboard sometimes! Still, there are tons of photos and written history, and I find it fascinating and fun to do. It's going a little slow, but it is still a very rewarding project! As you may have guessed by now, I like doing the weird stuff!

    Quick question let's say you came across some vintage model cars from the 70s and they were built and painted very well but they're dirty dirty dirty. If they're refurbished would that hurt the value of the model car?

    • @TheLukaCeeChannel
      @TheLukaCeeChannel  Před rokem

      Either way. I don't think it would change the value of them. Usually with built ups. The value is in how rare the model is.
