FLIGHT REVIEW -- Arrows RC MiG-29 64mm EDF PNP (The RC Geek)

  • Here is my flight review for the Arrows RC MiG-29 Fulcrum twin 64mm EDF. As mentioned last week, this is a nice flying model that looks good and goes together well. I do wish it was a touch bigger to help reduce the wing loading a little as I think it would land a little nicer and also have a little bigger space for batteries. But, as a whole it's a really cool model and looks good with some burners. :) Spektrum file download available at thercgeek.com/... #MiG29 #TheRCGeek #FlightReview

    I fly mine off a rough grass strip. I use the new Spectrum 6S 3200mAh. I wrapped the nose gear strut with duct tape twice and it works great! So far I love it with this battery and I a getting 3 plus minute flights.

    Hi Chris, purchased this aircraft a couple of weeks ago. Read lots of different opinions on setup and got to the point of confusion. Saw this video and went with your exact setup except on the mains I used half the original spring and half a ball-point pen spring, so it sits lower but still has some cushioning when landing.
    Maiden flight was superb cofg at 100mm and she was off the grass field in 100 feet. No trimming required and flaps worked perfect.
    During the second flight one of the mains failed to come down on the first cycle but o.k. on the second. I noticed that when the gear is up the wheels are hard up in the wells. So I removed the retracts and put a couple of washers under the front edge and all is o.k. now.
    Great video and thanks for the setup tips.

    Nice jet for sure. Looks like there are a few companies out there that are stepping up the design aesthetics without asking for super large price tags. For a minute you saw the price of rc planes really ballooning like crazy which is insane since we're essentially flying coffee cups with electric motors and batteries in them.

I haven’t done your recommended main gear upgrade, but will before taking it out for the maiden. If it survives the 1st six flights/landings I’ll order the afterburners for it. thank you Chris for the tips, after modification of main undercarriage, I did the maiden yesterday, and despite CG is 95mm, I think it is still too much forward. Roaring Top 35c 4000 battery is max aft, and this is the lightest battery on the market...to bad I'll need to test with some lead at the back...after a 3.5 minute flight, the 35c battery is too hot, also, as it needs a lot of power to fly correctly. The plane is beautiful and good craftmanship, but a bit underpowered and too nose heavy.

    Hi Chris.
    Need some help or advice. I set mine up with your throws for everything. I’m using a safe receiver. I get 30 up and down from the elevator with safe on. I use a 6s 4000 60c. I had horrible maiden. I gave it full power on runway. Waited a bit and started lift. Almost hit a tree at end of field because it would not lift quick enough. I kept full speed and tried again to climb after takeoff and still had hardly any climb. So I tried to bring it in but it since I couldn’t flare it crashed but I was lucky to get a clean repairable cut. I have my elevator pitched slightly down maybe 5cm under the where you see match up to rear fuse. Most my jets seem to need a slight forward edge down pitch on elevator hence the 5mm. Any suggestions on what I could or should do?

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m so sorry to hear that! If you’re using safe, you want to have the rates set to 100% all around as the angle limits seem to be proportional to the rates. So, more rates will give you a larger angle limit. It honestly sounds to me that safe was limiting you too much.

  • @EDF_FANatic
    @EDF_FANatic Před rokem

    Just got this plane. One of the elevator servos was fluttering which was fixed by adding Velcro to the side for dampening. The other elevator servo isn't fluttering but has some vibration at certain throws. Really strange, not sure how to fix it.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Před rokem

      I’d guess it’s a result of the stab being extremely light to the servo and so as a result it has so little load on it it causes the servo to to hunt around center. Does it go away when you lightly press on the stab with your finger? Do you have a gyro active in the airplane?

    • @EDF_FANatic
      @EDF_FANatic Před rokem

      @The RC Geek good evaluation, I didn't think about that. The servo that was fluttering wouldn't do it with a bit of pressure however the servo that has the stab vibrating still vibrates during movement. The movement isn't smooth at all. I have the as3x gyro. I thought it may be the servo not being glued in well, took it apart and saw that the servo was glued to the paint and not really to the foam side. The pushrods also had a bit of play in them. Fixed those things and still getting a bit of vibration, left me no choice but to order better servos and ball link pushrods. Bit disappointing out of the box, but hoping she will fly fantastically eventually. Such a beautiful plane.

    Hi, Chris. I recently tried to replace the spring on my FMS F18 mains. I found if the springs on the mains are too soft. The plane will do that rollover at 5:59 when steering while taxing with some speed. If you touch the wingtip and the plane rolls over to the side easily, then your springs might be too soft.

      @Thercgeek  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks! I do CG gear down. It's best to CG in the takeoff and landing config as that at least ensures you'll have a flyable CG in the most critical phases of flight. The CG does typically shift with the gear which is normal, but if you don't have the CG right in the takeoff and landing config, then it'll be a really short flight.
