Being a Brentford fan over the past 15 years has been an absolute privilege, not due to the results, but down to the fact that we have a well thought-out plan. It brings peace and quiet optimism in the face of adversity and disappointment. Phil Giles is the embodiment of this philosophy and I am put at extreme ease knowing that my football club is in good hands.

Phil, management, owner, the staff, players and Thomas Frank have done wonders at Brentford. Incremental steps taken over years as they set out to get to the prem in 2015! A real life story of how your Goals take time, never give up!

This was so insightful. Especially his story if how he got into the role he's in at Brentford. I'm a young person who hasn't attended university because of a lack of clarity about what I want to do. But I know I'd love to be some way involved in the running of my local club. Always been interested in how football teams operate and how internal issues in teams can be exploited in terms of inaccurate odd setting by bookmakers who don't take things like this into account. This has been a real eye opener on how to go after that.

Another great episode, really loved this. Took so much away. Many notes. Thank you. It'd be great to get Marina Granovskaia on the show to talk about what she did at Chelsea with Roman, how this looked, how she helped shape the signings, identification etc. People criticise her but I think she done a brilliant job at Chelsea and we are very sorry to have lost her. I think you also need to get on Petr Cech and what he did as Performance Director to help shape Chelsea and how maybe the transition may have impacted him, but how he may have supported the transition when new owners come in, especially when you're on your way out - as Phil said, be humble and it's that humility Petr would have shown on his way out, but maintaining a strong performance output in his own role during that time. Loving these as always and am glued to them. Fantastic last month or so taking plenty away and look forward to so many more great guests in the future. It's a big thanks as always.

Great interview. I learned a lot. Phil makes a great point about judging the process and not outcomes. On the same, I wish he was asked when is the time to move from judging the process to looking at outcomes - how they would go about that and the things they would look at...?

What's the reason behind this and many other podcasts being butchered on Spotify. I.e barely 50 mins of content on there but more on CZcams?

I don’t like the word ‘luck’ in football. It should be replaced with fortunate.
If someone hits the post it’s unfortunate but someone might chase it in and it comes off their backside and goes in.
They made it happen, it wasn’t lucky. It was fortunate.
    Make sense?

I understand the terminology and thinking around this, which I think is an important concept, I believe Matthew Syed speaks about this in his episode, however the more and more I've been in and around football the more I truly believe luck exists. I believe being fortunate in a position to be able to sign a player for example and having the luck that you scored 1 more goal than the team below you stopping you from going down is important. The team who did score 1 more are fortunate that they had that extra goal, but I believe it was luck that kept them up by 1 more goal rather than being fortunate as a holistic view. Interesting point though, really like this, but think both can be argued here. But love the world of sport! What it's all about.
