Cersei's vanity really does make her an easy mark for those who are actually cleverer than she thinks she is. I wish Aurane Waters good fortune in whatever the heck his game is.

I gotta say that it is pretty neat that House Velaryons is still around in the current story. How despite House Targaryen getting the boot, the Velaryons just continued moving along and got invested in the new regime

Been hoping Aurane Waters ends up allying with Daenerys. He can fight in the name of his young nephew, the current Lord of the Tides.
If he joins Dany, she could legitimize him as a trueborn Velaryon, and mayhaps be her Master of Ships going forward. Maybe one of the dragons will end up in the hands of a Velaryon, and aid Dany in her Conquest.
She has 3 dragons like the Conqueror did, but Aegon had riders alongside him as well. Getting back into the fold with House Velaryon would be the best option going forward

Aren't the Velaryons pretty much poor at this point? I remember it was mentioned that they were only able to provide Stannis a few ships. Nice to know that they're still loyal to Dragonstone and Jon saw their banners on the Wall during the battle.
Would be amazing if Aurane end up controlling majority of the Stepstones (something both the Targs and Velaryons didn't achieve) and carve a kingdom for himself.

There never really recovered to the high the were pre dance of the dragons. There were a few lords that did okay and regained a fair bit of wealth and power but overtime it just eroded to the extent they can hardly help stannis at all

Were the Velaryons ever that powerful over long periods of time?
My understanding is that they always had powerful naval fleet and served as Masters of Ships, but in terms of wealth and trade, didn’t their ascent and subsequent fall start and end with Corlys?

@@emmanueladedeji3335 This is true - but surely the invasion of Dorne if anything only put a dent on their coffers even more? Not too many war spoils in Dorne to account for such a hard-fought victory.
They might have asserted their naval might but in terms of sea-borne trade and commerce, once Spicetown was destroyed to smithereens in the Dance, wasn’t it game over in terms of wealth?
I imagine they are wealthy relative to many smaller houses but during Corlys’s time, they were competing with the likes of Lannisters.

Thanks for making this, I really enjoyed it. I used to think that he was working for Varys, but considering what happens at the end of Dance of Dragons, it would make more sense for Varys to keep him on the small council (most of whom are dead by the end of the book) rather than fleeing with the fleet. For me, his promotion and betrayal are symptomatic of Cersei's regency as she was also just as bad at finding competent supporters, like Lord and Lady Merryweather, who would also make for a great subject.

My guess is that he will be the one to ferry Daeny's troops to Westeros when she eventually does go. I am unsure of his motivations though, does he want to return to Westeros and maybe become legitimized or simply carve out the Kingdom of the Stepstones as the Lord of the Waters which would be fitting for the Velaryons.

@@herbthompson8937 stannes is going to die in winds so it makes no since for aurane to go to him plus he's nowhere near stannes anyway, no but it's near essos he could easily go from the step stones to were Dany is vs anywhere else , like I said aegons king makers will provide aegon with a master of ships when he takes Kings landing there not going to wait from some valyrion basterd especially since house valyrion is not that powerful anymore why would aegon choose hik vs anyone else? .
How is my comment ludicrous? Sure geography wise he isn't exactly that close to Dany but my point stands that she is the most logical option for him to go to , stannes will be dead before he could make it north and even if he wasn't stannes would punish aurane for becoming a pirate and not returning to stannes immediately so it doesn't benefit him at all to go to stannes, aegon is a nobody as far as aurane is concerned so it doesn't make since for him to join aegon thus Dany is his only option.
