- Areo Hotah did make it into the tv adaption of A Song Of Ice And Fire, Game Of Thrones it is another one of these cases where the character and his story is very different from his book version. Other than being killed of in Game Of Thrones while he is still alive in the book, his role in the show is very minimal mostly just standing behind Doran Martell. I think his role was reduced simply because the likes of Arianne Martell were cut from the show, this things play out differently and his story from the books kind of becomes void. I think Areo has a really interesting back story coming from a place in Essos with very little lore about it but lore that is very interesting.

I feel like the fan base are too quick write off Areo Hotah as a character that will die off in Winds. I think hes going to have to live to see the Dorne plot unfold since he’s our only pov still in Dorne, especially since Ariannes pov is taking her to the Stormlands and potentially Kings Landing or the Reach.

Just one POV thus far, I remember, how often must I re-read to find the second you say there is? Whatever the case, not just Areo Hotah but all of Dorne was wiped out with the death of Oberyn in the show. It is left to our imagination as it becomes ever more doubtful that GRRM even wants to finish this story. It has already been so corrupted. GRRM took a path that made him fame and fortune at a time when relatively few had read any of his scifi, short stories. I found ASOIAF when playing Skyrim.

Realistic Areo would have sliced the sand snakes arm or head off before she could shank him, and especially would not let Ellaria so close to Doran after just attempting to kill Myrcella and insulting his authority.

S7E1 was when it was all over
I thought the adaptation of Prince Doran to be just as bad. Although it may have been dull to explore yet another plotter like Varys or Petyr, his insight would be valuable, especially as the whole of ASOIAF has a theme of power; how to gain it, lose it, wield it, it's limitations and corruption. The way he was killed off at the beginning of season 6 was terrible, and the actor playing him (Alexander Siddig) seemed to agree. It would have been good to see the consequences of his murder and the whole plot shown. They could have at least identified the new prince shown in the finale. I suspect that book Doran will be more clever and is clearly working with Varys and is his source in the capital. If he allies Dorne with the Golden Company he'll be virtually unstoppable, and give the Griff/Stormlands storyline more dynamism.
They really wasted the actor on the bad role.
