I AM NOT IN FULL AGREEMENT WITH THIS VIDEO. It is really sounding "political" rather than the reality. Very clearly, Brian Lilley and Brad Bradford simply do not like Chow. There is a civic financial bill that exists and needs to be paid. Exactly WHAT has Chow got to do with this "bill"? Does she "control" this "bill"?
Forget about politics. If there is a civic financial problem, it doesn't matter WHO is sitting in the chair .....THE BILL HAS TO BE PAID!!!
The only "conversations" that might apply is COST REDUCTION .....which affect one of, or all of, EVERY CIVIC PUBLIC SECTOR UNION ....educations, healthcares, securities, maintenances, ....which no matter which or what "services" ....THEY ARE ALL UNIONIZED .....and we constantly hear about the many "collective agreements" ending and new "bargaining" taking place ....which NEVER get announced as going down ....ALWAYS GOING UP. The people who pay for this are the TAXPAYERS. How exactly do TAXPAYERS think that they have nothing to do with all these PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS DEMANDS AND INCREASES??? EVERY TAXPAYERS IS PAYING FOR THESE INCREASES ....REGARDLESS OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE ECONOMY.
There is a brief talk about "services" declining. WHO PROVIDES THESE "SERVICES"? PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS PROVIDE THESE SERVICES.
When times are tough, PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS DEMAND MORE ......BECAUSE TIMES ARE TOUGH!!! Quebec UNIONS will get 6% increase the first year and over reach their 17.4% over five years. Quebecers will be paying for this. There are very likely other demands such as working hours, breaks, time off, vacations, bonuses, ....an almost never-ending list of demands that will never be released to the public to let them know how much this is going to cost them.
The sad part is that the "public" has no choice in what happens ....regardless of what political party is in power. Case in point, in B.C., right now, the transit system, Coast Mountain Bus UNION is demanding 25% wage increase over THREE YEARS!!! If they don't get this demand approved .....they simply go on strike. "THE POWER OF THE UNION" ....and they have the "right" to do so because this is Canada. The wonderful country that has so many "freedoms". (SARCASM)
So those in Toronto ....open up your wallets BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE .......ALL THE PUBLIC SECTOR UNION'S DEMANDS WHEN BARGAINING WERE MET ....SO NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM. And at the end of this "collective agreement" ...it will be back to "negotiations" again for the next "bargaining" sessions ......REGARDLESS OF WHICH POLITICAL PARTY IS IN THE HOT SEAT.
And of course, let's not ignore the massive influx of immigration. Where do these people go to live? Is it required that they have enough money to actually LIVE in Canada BEFORE they leave their own country? So if/when they arrive in Toronto, and there is no housing, WHO IS GOING TO "START" BUILDING HOMES AND WHO IS PAYING FOR THESE HOMES? Well, there isn't any "private" citizens that are paying for these new homes, so let's just mutually accept the fact that TAXPAYERS are going to have these homes built for other people. Once upon a time, people saved up money for down-payments and went to banks for their mortgages ...and for the next 25 years ....PAID BACK THE BANK. It sounds like these immigrants won't have to do that and the TAXPAYERS will be paying for these new homes.
This video is nothing more than opinionated rhetoric. TALKING about all the misgivings and venting contrasting opinions is a complete waste of everyone's time. IF you want to make a point, then get the facts FIRST!!! Not once was any actual cost stated at any time. What's the annual budget? What IS the "maintenance budget"? What WAS the "traffic-calming" cost? You whine and complain ....and offer not one iota of actual factual information.
      .

As a life long Torontonian, this is the nightmare envisioned when Chow was elected Mayor. As a senior on a fixed pension, the pension never increases and everyone wants a bigger piece of my meager pie. These increases in taxes are designed to allow City Hall to operate in their wasteful "business as usual" mode. No visible spending cuts, no analysis of core services. The Mayor that campaigned on an "affordable city" and she has just slapped every homeowner, condo owner and Toronto renter in the face. Many millions of dollars being wasted on unproven traffic calming and bicycle lanes that are choking transportation throughout the city. How about a moratorium on bike lanes for 3 years until the debt is under control? People aren't realizing that a single speed bump costs the City over $30 thousand dollars to install. The total taxes of six average Toronto homes to construct a single bump. Suspend any action to rename Dundas Street and the 8 Million dollar expenditure, until the Toronto debt is cleared. How about a 50% reduction in spring flower planting in parks and streetscapes for just 3 years. If the other levels of government are failing to support the fallout of immigration, then stop doing the federal government's job. Torontonians and all Canadians are facing huge financial pressures and those pressures are pushing and pulling from every direction. We know how to "cut back" and we've been doing it, over and over and over for year, after year, after year and for many THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO CUT BACK. The City and all levels of government continue to perform like a "Dead-Beat Dad"; Constantly crying that they can't afford to pay their alimony payments or child support, while they buy a brand new car or fly to holiday destinations. What Toronto can't afford is Olivia Chow.

Toronto has no say in how many immigrants come into Canada but is burdened with the costs of housing them which results in skyrocketing rents and greatly affects our health care services. Immigration is a federal concern and the feds need to pay up. Otherwise, they need to rename our immigration system from come to Canada to come Toronto. As that is the reality of what is happening.

You need to make 500k to have an average tax of 50%. Most Canadians pay about average of 25% taxes on their income, and then 13% HST, and then 30% on Transportation through carbon tax....you point is valid. Canada is starting to fail. Politicians keep making the easy decision of raising taxes, instead of balancing their own books, and cutting out their unproductivity....if they won't do it, Canadians need to start standing up and change their vote or we will usher end socialism, then communism, and then Canada will have fallen, just like many prosperous nations before it.
