'16 Santa Fe Key Fob Repair

  • The little rubber or silicone buttons on both fobs for our '16 Hyundai Santa Fe rotted away so that they both became unusable. New fobs cost a FORTUNE! So, I fixed old ones and saved a TON of money. I won't be able to make much of a judgment on the replacement pieces until they've been used (and abused) out "in the wild" for a while. How they hold up in pockets and purses will be the real test. #keyfob #hyundai #santafe

Thanks for including the detail about where the connecting pegs were located. Made things much easier. No gluing needed.

I really appreciated the level of detail in your video. Too many other videos I saw used shortcuts, like glue, to do the repair, something I didn’t want to do. By showing all the steps in detail, you gave me a great understanding of what to expect, and how to prevent myself from making unnecessary mistakes. I purchased the rubber cover, followed your instructions, and the key fob is repaired. You’d never know it was ever repaired! I saved nearly $400!!! Thanks again for a great video.

Thanks. I asked my son to watch your video and a short while later he handed me a nicely repaired key fob.

These key fobs should be investigated by a state Attorney General. They only last a couple of years and when you go to the dealer, they will charge you $ 350 - $ 400 to replace it. Borderline criminal. I bought the rubber cover on Amazon 2 for $ 7 and did it myself using super glue and patience. I will never buy another Hyundai because of this.

I hear you brother neither will I but in addition to my fobs being destroyed I have scoring in all 4 cylinders and even though I am the original owner and the car has always been (over) serviced at the stealership Hyundai told me to fuck off when I lodged a just out of warranty claim.

Thanks James, best video I have found on replacing this. I have the same exact key fob and problem with it as yours and your video will be a big help.
The comment by Peter that this should be investigated by the state attorney general is so spot on I totally agree however I live in California and your lucky if any attorney general in the state will investigate even cold blooded murder, not an exaggeration.

    Thanks a bunch!
Fixed the main and spare Hyundai keys taking the steps you suggested, by just replacing the keyboard for them.
Key indications: filling the little-legs before mount it back, cleaning everything of old keyboard scraps, pealing off the damaged keyboard as the "entry-point", hence not damaging the case and the silver ring.
    Thanks again! 🍻

Thank you for posting this, I bought a replacement fob case and was struggling to pop my used one open since I didn't want to break anything inside. With this video, I just popped the rubber buttons out of the replacement case and put them on my original fob fairly quickly!
Now, I just need to order a second button replacement piece for my spare fob...super clutch video, I'm glad I came across it.

Great video. I used a tartar scraper from a dental tool kit (that I usually use for miscellaneous craft projects and tiny repairs) to pry off the components and clean out the detritus. It worked really well for this.
    Thanks again.

Fantastic! Thank you for the excellent instructions...I just successfully changed mine out and the pad is flush on all four corners. Only had to file down the center two pegs. I used a file on the end of a chiropodist tool--it can be searched on Amazon with this key phrase "Ingrown Toenail Tool Kit, File & Lifter Set." Doesn't have to be any exact brand, just make sure there's a file in the kit. I have a second pad for when my wife's keypad needs changing out.

You're working way too hard! Just take the rubber cover off and put a new one on...no glue needed or desired, making for easy removal and replacement; the rubber will hold it and the silver ring in place. I bought a pack of 10 covers cheap from the Hyundai store online. When one wears out I just quickly put another one on.
