      @@JamesDvorak the only thing is can scan it with is the OBII as that’s what I have but it’s doesn’t show any fault code on there also when the gear gets stuck in 4th theres is a yellow light in the dash with shape of the car and a spanner.

    • @JamesDvorak
      @JamesDvorak Před 3 měsíci

      Hmmm. I wonder if your car is going into limp mode (stays stuck in 4th gear) and then resets when you restart the car. Have you tried scanning for codes while the car & spanner light is on? I had a similar issue with limp mode but I got the normal check engine light on mine. Restart would take out of limp home mode. After some diagnosing, I figured out that it was a problem with the accelerator pedal position sensor (in the accelerator pedal), which I repaired by replacing with a "new" (= from salvage yard) pedal and all started working again. I would try scanning while the light is on to see if there are codes in the ECM. May not be transmission at all. Could be, but could be any number of other sensors.

    • @JamesDvorak
      @JamesDvorak Před 3 měsíci

      @Bigboystrap1 Před 3 měsíci

      @@JamesDvorak yes I tried that as you mentioned and still doesn’t show any fault codes also I think it has to do with gear as local mechanic said to change the oil in the gearbox and it might fix it, but it didn’t also when I turn the ignition on and applied the foot break and change the gear from park to drive the car jilts/shakes.

    Any idea which censor is A and which censor is B?

    • @JamesDvorak
      @JamesDvorak Před 3 měsíci

      If you are talking about a typical modern car with a transverse engine with dual cams, sensor A is *typically* the intake cam sensor and B is the exhaust cam sensor.

    • @TomatoJoe11
      @TomatoJoe11 Před 3 měsíci

      @@JamesDvorak I meant which sensor on the engine is the exhaust? Front or back? I went ahead and replaced the front one (which I presume is the exhaust) to turn off error code P0365, but that switched on error code P0017. Both codes mention the exhaust camshaft position censor. Any ideas? Thanks for making this video and responding :)

    • @JamesDvorak
      @JamesDvorak Před 3 měsíci

      Just curious... Are you working on an Astra? Anyway, the exhaust sensor typically matches the side the exhaust manifold is on, usually "front" on a transverse engine. Your new code is a correlation code I think (cam and crank aren't rotating in sync according to the computer). That could mean that your new sensor is bad (it happens more than you think), the crank sensor is misreporting, or you.may need a timing set (chain and tensioner). If you know someone with a pico scope or other kind of oscilloscope they can probably check that for you. Hope that gives you some direction.

    • @JamesDvorak
      @JamesDvorak Před 3 měsíci

    • @TomatoJoe11
      @TomatoJoe11 Před 3 měsíci

      @@JamesDvorak Yup! A 2008 Saturn Astra! I was thinking that the new sensor just needed a moment to sync, I turned off the code and am waiting to see if it comes back on or if this is one of the things that just sorts itself out. However, if it is a bad sensor, then at $16, I won't really sweat buying a new one. I've not driven it far since the code came on, just short trips around the neighborhood.
