"These Things We Do, That Others May Live,"
Best one
Best one ever
Navy and Coast Guard Rescue swimmers "So others may live".
Seals posted *Second to None* in their Squadron Entrance.
Apparently, SAS posted *None* on their entrance afterwards. _Cold._
"Hey shoot that dog": the ATF'S motto
DEA " let's f$ck people over" then wonder why everybody wants to kill them lol I tried leaving them behind in Afghanistan but they caught on...
I totally agree with the list and rankings, but since the title doesn't exclude other countries I'd also put in an honorable mention to the SAS's "Who dares wins". That's also rather badass.
Rather? It’s the No.1
They’re the OGs, they’re always number one.
delta force has no motto but are by sine pari warriors mean with out equal though this is to my knowledge the us socom's motto delta force is the prime example of this motto. delta force is a unit that was based off the SAS but have shown better with their support personnel, funding and even has a small aviation support platoon of pilots with a small fleet of ah6 and mh6 helos. delta force is also taught tradecraft like dead drops and black bag operations.
Canada’s Special Service Force motto was “OSONS” translates as We Dare.
Scroll down on this link for a picture of their tall winged patch.

I like the Austrian Jagdkommandos Never Retreat
“Let do homework tomorrow and play games today”. My motto
Best motto, coffee or die
As already stated below, it's a pity you limited it to US SF as, in my opinion, nothing beats the SAS's motto "Who Dares Wins".
U mean Australian SAS right lol 🇦🇺
Who dare wins is definitely the best
Who Dares Gets Captured?
"And The Lord Said, Let There Be Rangers!" "And The Gates of Hell Where Opened."
Rangers, Lead the Way!
And there sat 3 tabbed E4s telling you to go get a water source
after EOD clears it for them.
SUA SPONTE
RANGERS LEAD THE WAY
Try the old SBS motto: "Not by strength but by guile"
Swift, Silent, Deadly! Rah!
Semper Fi
Love Taylor Swift hoping to get some tickets for Eras Tour!
@@ferramirez4570 what does that have to do with this?
"That other may live" is really intense.
Another one: "Si vis pacem, para bellum"
"If you want Peace, prepare for War."
Left out Coast Guards MSRT “we own the night”
They said "special operations." Whoever they are doesn't count
In the night stalkers own the night, let’s get real
US Navy Rescue Swimmers preceded Coast Guard and in fact Coasties came through our pipeline back in the early eighties. "So others may live".
"That others may live"👣
Who Dares Wins.
Is the best, as used by three organisations in New Zealand, Australia, and U.K.
Sure you have heard of them.
Germanys Navy SOF "Kampfschwimmer" (equivalent to the SEALs) have "Lerne leiden ohne zu klagen" which means "Learn to suffer without complaint".
That motto dates back to Friedrich III., German Kaiser and King of Prussia in 1888, and to old Prussian virtues.
The US Navy has their Special Amphibious & Reconnaissance Corpsman (SARC), today's they go by Special Operation Independent Duty Corpsman, and the moto is "The difficult anytime, the impossible by appointment only " these Hospital Corpsman work with Force Recon, Marine Raiders and Navy Seals
I personally love the phrase "Sua Sponte" of 75th. Because it encompasses so much not just for military but just in everyday life. It encompasses ownership, accountability, passion, dedication and desire to succeed. Just a wonderful phrase.
My father was in the Third Armored Division in WWII. One of his teachers was Col. Rex Applegate, and my dads favorite motto, the one he taught me from an early age was/is "Kiil or Be Killed". Dad spent most of his service in the Military Police, 503rd He retired after twenty two years. Kill or be killed is my first motto. Since my later years I adopted my last motto. "Semper Paratus"
Recently I've become quite fond of "Slava Heroyam"!
Thank you COD. Peace through Strength!
One for all and all for one….or French version, Tous pour un, un pour tous, was made famous by Alexandre Dumas in the 1844 novel The Three Musketeers……not Shakespeare, incredible video none the less 🤙🏻
Green Beret's De Oppresso Liber is noice
Only other one i would have added while not in SOF, they deploy with SOF regularly is EOD, its unofficial motto, is "Quiet Success, or Spectacular Failure"
Going to throw an honorable mention to Marine Scout Snipers, although not classified as Special Operations. The unofficial motto of "Suffer Patiently, Patiently Suffer" has a robust meaning to it, showing unwavering perseverance, enduring and overcoming all obstacles to complete the mission while under the immense mental stress and physical discomfort that it brings to achieve such. This translates directly to everyday life, where one must be able to endure and overcome the harsh realities and obstacles in life to be able to achieve their main life goals, as nothing generally comes handed to you, hence why many Scout Snipers live or adopt this mentality for life.
Canadian JTF2 - Facta non verba > Actions speak louder than words.
“omnibus pugnat bo se deserit”
“Everybody fights, no one quits”
- Starship Troopers
Why didn't you guys put the AF Combat Controller motto: "First There" ?
“First there” is in reference the chow hall
I love my country, but the Brits have us beat in this area…
Who Dares Wins (SAS). By Strength and Guile (SBS). I mean, come on…
Some more British mottos that you might like: Utrinque Paratus (ready for anything - the Parachute Regiment), Per Mare Per Terram (by sea, by land - the Royal Marines), Lateo (we lie hidden - 4/73 special observation battery who were first conceived as stay behind OPs) and Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum (if you want peace, prepare for war - the Royal Navy).
Not all strictly special operations but cool nonetheless.
Ubique… “Everywhere”. Corp of Artillery.
@@85481 “Death or Glory” - Royal lancers
What about the Canadians? CSOR with Audeamus (Let Us Dare) or JTF2's Facta Non Verba (Deeds Not Words)
Deeds Not Words was the motto of Mega Force.
Osons, the forerunner of Csor/JTF2. It means let us dare.
Solid list and respectable order!! Semper Fi, Coffe or Die...wait, did I just create a new one????
#1, "The Deed Is All, Not The Glory" - DEVGRU Black Squadron
#2, "Tertia Optio" "Third Option" - Special Activities Division
#3, "Send Me" -Intelligence Support Activity
IAS and SAD are tied for first, in my humble opinion.
US 442nd Infantry Regiment:
“Go For Broke”!!!!
“Baddest men on the planet…provided we have a radio.” 13F
I thought 160th unofficial was "Anywhere on time, plus or minus 60 seconds."
You didn’t list EOD as a Special Operations Force. But this multi-service organization is often times right there at the tip of the spear. Their motto is “Initial Success or Total Failure” and alludes to the fact that you only one chance to do it right.
To my knowledge EOD has never met their quota. I’ve never seen (regular army or socom) EOD billets filled. There’s something to that. I love my EOD bros. They’re the only dudes I’ve never seen say “no” to a mission.
Worked with EOD on a crazy deployment. Good dudes
We definitely weren’t special forces, but the 3/2 Marines “Unus Supra” is pretty cool. The Betio Bastards were a pretty sharp outfit.
“Sua sponte” also means “because I can”
I always like the 506th Infantry Regiment moto of Currahee, Cherokee for Stands Alone.
I think Air Force CCT's moto is "First there"
SF - Operational Detachment - Delta : "Oppressors Beware "
Wow! Totally agree that the PJ’s motto, is #1. I absolutely love the Recon motto as well and it definitely takes a very close second place for me. All these soldiers are badass, no matter the motto. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Maybe there should be different categories because some mottos are “bad ass” and others “compassionate” etc. There’s a lot of good ones. Interesting post. Thanks.
Old school special team special forces are all deserving respect
Yall left out TacP, dayum
“Death on call”
Canadian Joint Task Force 2 motto is: Deeds not words-Facta non verba. Enough said. Best of the best. 🇨🇦
As a Coastie that has worked with AST's I think you did a good job with the #1 on the list.
Meanwhile in the UK…
Ready For Anything - The Parachute Regiment
Who Dares Wins - The Special Air Service
🇬🇧
Honorable mention to the US Coast Guard's unofficial motto: "YOU HAVE TO GO OUT" to rescue the distressed
There used to be an addendum: "Nobody said anything about coming back"
... nobody said anything about ....coming back???!!!
...wow...!!!
@@obiioka4413 A reflection of their determination to save lives, no matter what.
Unmatched?
The chaps who use "Who Dares Wins" and "By Strength And guile" might beg to differ.
“Once the impossible has been achieved, the only reward is another mission no one will try…they loved to fight, fought to win, and would rather die than quit. *Night Stalkers Don’t Quit!”*
Maybe not the coolest motto, but for sure the coolest dudes. NSDQ!
Best hair dos needs to be next!
You got #1 right 👍🏼
Sua sponte goes hard af.
Malleus Iustitiae
I hope an artillery team adopts it one day.
AWS Navy Rescue Swimmers So Others May Live
You forgot SWCC - on time, on target, never quit
I think the tacp's motto goes pretty hard "The Strong Shall Stand, The Weak Will Fall by the Wayside"
I like marine force Recon's S.S.D
Dutch special forces (KCT) “Nunc aut Nunquam which means; Now or Never
My old unit motto was; Het moet dus het kan (Dutch). It has to be done, so its possible
Coast Guard MSRT is Elite, highly professional and theirs is "The night is ours."
There’s lots of good mottos out there. One of the SOG teams bastardized the USAF Rescue motto: “That others may die”. One of Devgroup’s Squadron’s motto is: “God will judge our enemies, we arrange the meetings.” The old 300F-1 school motto was “A finger or tube in every oriface”. SFARTEC/CIF “Nous Defions” we defy & “We don’t do drive bys, we make house calls”. MFF motto “ Those who hesitate shall inherit the Earth”.
"Warheads on Foreheads"
The British Royal Navy Special Unit, the Special Boat Service has the motto. By Strength and Guile” ,which sums up,what they do.
I was in the US Air Force, 319th Missile Squadron. Our motto was, "God dammit, the cable is out!"
“Fuck it! We’ll do it live!”
Sua sponte RLTW tough as F. Most elite 👍🏿
That's a great list. I do agree (you can't get cooler than the Vietnam era "Jolly Greens" in my humble opinion).
I'd love to see you talk to Jim Shorten: USN, Green Beret, MACV SOG, Police Officer, USAF PJ, consultant radiologist and meteorite hunter (among other things). That would be s very cool conversation 👍
“Idgaf Kesha” - Ray-Ray, A Haunted House
We SEABEES have a couple "CAN DO!" "WE BUILD WE FIGHT!" And my personal favorite " Are the Marines done killing shit so we can get to work"
😆🫡
One for all and all for one is from the Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas…
South African Recce "We fear naught but God". 💣
"As the bat emerges from the darkness, As the blade cuts through with silence, As the grenade smashes in rage."
Shayatet 13
I've always liked this -
"Your Corps - YOUR CORPS!
My Corps! - MY CORPS!
Our Corps! - OUR CORPS!
Marine Corps! - *MARINE CORPS!*"
( Yeah, I know it's cadence, not a motto, and that the MC aren't a Special Ops force (at least most of them) but that's still awesome! )
Forgot about SWCC: “On time, On target, Never quit”
"One for all, and all for one" was not Shakespeare, it was Alexandre Dumas.
This guy actually thinks Shakespeare wrote the Three Musketeers? 😂
Mine is "Chosin".
Nous défions
And how they do it.
The PJ's duh!
“Full Tilt, Full Time!”…
Sine Pari - Without Equal
The motto of a sniper: One shot, one kill. The motto of the artillery: One shot, ten kills.
Sua Sponte
What about Delta Force?
Oppressors Beware
Sine Pari - Without Equal
No love for TACP?
CCT ?
“First there!”
@@IGY6Brah they forgot them
Obviously the motto that has changed this century is-
We've got these planes, remain calm we are returning to the airport.
Uh? Airmobile? "Death from Above."
for the DOD covert anti-SOF team the "gray beret" aka Lost Commando : Indomitum Legione Semper Elutus ! Untamed Legion Always washed out
I respect all of the special operations community but to this day I don't know how people misunderstood or were fooled by Hollywood that the SEAL Devgroup is the best counterterrorism unit in the United States. Even in counterterrorism, Kevin Holland, who was Devgroup and then Delta, made it clear and said that Delta Force counterterrorism is the best prepared unit in the United States. And if we use the advertising phrase used by the fanatics who defend the seals, that they say that because the Devgroup killed bin Laden that catapults them to be the best, it seems that they don't know history. First, when they found bin Laden, he was already retired and old, he was not in command and nobody paid attention to him, they found him more than 10 years after the Twin Towers fell in Pakistan and it was not the SEALs who discovered it, it was the CIA, the SEALs they were just the ones who stormed the place. But if we look at the delta force, the delta captured Sadan hussein, Pablo Escobar, chapo guzman, Abu yaf, in life there are ranks and delta has all the championship rings in its specialty.

And motto for Delta Force?
Delta who?
I know you guys are a América but since I’m already here my personal pick is the motto from Brazilian Navy Combat Divers, GRUMEC: Fortuna Audaces Sequitur, Fortune Follows the Bold.
