My 2024 Kawasaki KLX 300 just hit over 600 miles. The service manual recommends an oil change and visual inspection. I fixed the oil filter spring issue with the needle nose plier method, so I don't have to get vasoline every time I need to change the oil filter.

If you keep the bike and keep making videos, I will be here watching. As I've said before. I own two of them and as much as I am tempted at times by other bikes, budget dictates that I will probably not be able to. Most reviewers to a blazing review of the bike, sometimes a brief build out, then they move on to another bike and new content for viewer interest. Or the eventually get bored and want something better. Rarely do you see anyone dedicated to building these bikes and keeping them for long term adventures and evaluation.

I hear that! I love this bike, when people ask me about it on the trails I always tell them I want to keep it for as long as possible. For the price, you just can’t beat it. I may add another bike one day but the KLX isn’t going away anytime soon. Thanks so much for watching!

I will be posting videos soon then, I have the first klx300sm, got the 2022 in 2021. I'm at 15k miles now, 9k the 1st year. The new advertisement photo in shot on Broadway Bridge in Portland Oregon because of me, not to brag, I just rode it that much...pretty sure more than anyone else. I'm dedicated to this one bike and building it out for long term.
It's a mini adventure bike! The perfect only 1 bike, I don't need to go over 80 in an apocalypse, I need to go up stairs and trails!

Remove that fill cap straight from the start to get maximum flow initially. A proper evacuation. You don’t want any vacuum when draining oil. Also, like to pre saturate the or filter element before installation, but that is next level wrenching.

I said I was keeping my as much OEM as possible...but after seeing the results of the ECU flash with the STP out its impressive. Especially without an obnoxious exhaust. Will see how ambitious I get this summer. If not Im super happy playing around with tires and sprockets that I already have from previous bikes.

Ohhh buddy It is so tempting. I think about it a lot, but I’m also happy with the performance I’m getting stock. I can’t say that I’ll be able to resist it forever haha.

Might be worth mentioning that it appears the oil filter cover could be installed 180 out of proper orientation. The cover has oil passages in it that line up with oil passages in the engine case. So mis-installing it (if it is actually possible) would pretty certainly result in a catastrophically ruined engine.

I personally lean the bike on its kickstand towards a wall or car, and perfectly balance the bike resting the Handlebar on the wall/car...mirror folded out of the way. The spring will stay in place with the bike at about 45° degrees.

    Use a zip tie.
Center of zip tie to lower spring
    Place spring on filter
Bend both ends of tie arond filter so they stick out past the top of the filter
Place spring and filter into position with tie
Hold filter in position while pulling tie from big end out.
    Install plate.
    Done.

Thanks Big Guy. Im right begind you on breaking in and modifying my klx300. It sure is weird about the filter spring, not looking forward to that part but I gotta do it. I’m at about 540 miles now and just picked up the goods yesterday. Keep em coming

      @DerekDualSport  Před 3 měsíci +1

Ahhh yeah, are you still loving the bike? Yeah the spring seems like real bad design on Kawasaki’s part but making the end a little wider wasn’t difficult.

More important note, do not follow the Owners Manual Interval Suggestion. Change the oil every 500 miles no matter what oil you run, my 2022 is at 15k miles, had the engine rebuilt at 9k miles under warranty following the manual with Kawasaki Full Synthetic.
I ran AmsOil 100% Synthetic only after the rebuild, and changed the oil every 500 miles. Now I'm learning Full Synthetic makes the clutch slip and wear out faster, just replaced the clutch, 200 miles later slipping and useless because ignored the box "not recommended to use Full Synthetic". It's too slick, it's best to run Conventional in these bikes and change every 500 miles. I'm going to get Kevlar plates and swap 3 of my 5 new 15% stronger springs for 38lb springs, break them in with Conventional, then try running AmsOil again. OEM Cork Based Material aka Oragnic just doesn't like it.

How many miles are u at now??? I got a surprise Thursday at 825 miles. After taking an hour break, bike fully cooled down I got back on it was confused as to why it suddenly felt more powerful. I thought maybe I was just tired, but took a road ride next day and confirmed its definitely got more punch, cruising around half throttle 4k-7k rpm and especially mid range to red line rpm's. I forgot on my previous 2 KLX 250's that around 1k miles it was fully broken in and felt quicker. On this 300 it legit feels like an increase of hp. I dont feel the need for the ECU flash now. Thumbs up to that LOL.
