Use a small squirt bottle with water and a healthy dose of Dawn dishwashing liquid to blast the skid plate area after the oil change then rinse with a hose. Works like a charm...no heavy chemicals needed.
Thanks for your efforts..! Yes basic stuff but so good to have it so clearly presented. The layout on the floor of tools and materials AND resources... is amazing. Great for beginning cycle owners and even the old guys (me) who need a crib sheet. I like the LS version and will probably buy one eventually (at least 10 Hondas to date). Lower seat & less standout colors appeal to me. Thanks! (Ps. Side note, replace your 'atmospheric' low efficiency gas tank style water heater with a higher efficiency unit, possibly instantaneous/tankless... or better yet, a heat pump water heater that's 'indirect solar' since it get's most of it's heat from the solar heated atmosphere and earth.. and some waste heat from the house... Let's save our world a bit longer with renewables and efficiency so we can keep riding those trails..!!!)

Wow, thank you very much for this video, it’s exactly what I was looking for as I just put a down payment on a brand new Crf300L. And especially for listing all the extra items that you put on your bike, I never realized Amazon had so many great items for this bike. Good choice sticking with the Honda oil. I have a 2005 Honda Rancher 350 4x4 ATV. It’s completely original with the exception of the starter and one CV Axel that just went last week. I use Honda oil and Gear fluids for the shafts and knock on wood it runs and sounds excellent.
I know there is an enormous temptation to "upgrade" beyond what the owners manual recommends, but I tend to always go with what's specified. This goes for my Himalayan too

Hi, when you did your oil change and you are checking the level, does the fact that the rear wheel is lifted off the ground make a difference? I know it's straight, but not sure if that makes a difference.
As far as oil, i like honda gn4. I yse 10w40 as it has a wider range of temperature uses. I heard 10w30 was put in the owners manual for epa or fuel economy reasons.

Oil.....Why besides owners recommendations do we put 15w-50 in one bike, and 10w-30 in an almost duplicate bike.
Some motorcycle manufacturers call for full synthetic but I've read in the comments that some individuals use regular ole motor oil.

Thanks for the maintenance vid! correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it recommended to adjust the clutch cable slack at the threaded collar/wheel adjuster under the rubber boot for minor adjustments and the one you turned is for large adjustments. Sorry for the question but I'm OCD ;)
Yeah....this very well may be the case. I was able to get it adjusted to my liking this way, but I will definitely check the service manual for the next adjustment.
As I read in the maintenance book, the one under the dust boot is for minor adjustments and the other for major adjustments.
Hey brother, thanks for the videos, they are very extensive. I was wondering, do you ever take your bike down to Phoenix/Scottsdale area? I really wanted to sit on one and compare it to the KLX 300ls and the sm. But no one has your bike down here. I would buy the klx, but none of their models have slipper clutches, which is concerning. What do you think? Does the clutch help you at all?
I sometimes come down on the Himalayan, but it would be much harder with the CRF given its fuel range. If you are even up here though, you are absolutely welcome to swing by and sit on it. I do take trips down to Sedona and Cottonwood often if that helps too.
You don't need a slipper clutch, but it is nice to have. You can firm shift further at higher speeds without locking up the rear wheel. It engine brakes more. Has a very light clutch pull at the hand also. May make it harder to push start I don't know yet, it did on my cbr1000rr.
hi it would have been nice if u checked the oil for metal flakes.
For this first change, I just let the oil drain into the pan. I did install a gold plug however, and when I did the second oil change I checked for metal flakes on the magnetic plug. There were a few, but it was very minimal.
Where did you find the front crash bars pretty slick.
The crash bars are from Outback Mototek. One word of caution, they are meant for the standard CRF300...so when I installed them, my front fender rubbed on the crossbar. I had to add 2 thin washers to the fender screws to slightly push it upwards and away from the crossbar. I talk about this in the accessories video.

There are actually three bikes behind me...The closest is a Surly Long Haul Trucker (my partner's bike), then a Specialized Diverge (my bike), and then a foldable Brompton H6L (we share)
@@On2Feet Interesting. I'm using an old 2009 Merida T1 hybrid commuter bike as my touring rig in SE Asia. It's been fitted with a Shimano Alfine 8 IGH hub, and has served me well for 13 years now.
I could see that there was something special about the front bike, the Surly, I think. The Surly's are classic touring bikes, and I was always curious about them, but have found them too expensive for my budget.

Blue lock tight ? Definitely not the drain plug .
I only put the blue lock tight on the oil filter bolts, not the drain plug.
