You telling me we can have more of these video , but with , "My Buddy Alfred"? 124, 129, 321, 305, 299...SOLD!
i love these sorta videos , going to farm auctions and why not go with a buddy
We havenât seen Alfred in a while!
Thanks Morgan for taking us along to the auction....Shoeđșđž
Love it! I'd watch more. That auctioneer and the process were great to watch!
lmao "Morgan Gold, are you here?" I thought there was about to be some more hound hunting drama
đđđ€Ł
Yup ... I thought they were going to ban you if you recorded.
Haha me too!
I thought the same thing! Lol
This was great morgan I like that you bid on a budget and don't go over your budget it's pretty cool to see an auction like this .
This was a great video! :D Would love to see more similar content. Thanks!!
This was exciting! Hahahaha... never been to an aution....i hope Morgan makes more auction videos!!
Yeah Morgan, I wouldn't mind seeing more off-farm events, and having Alfred with you as I think he would be a great asset to you, as he has more experience in the farming world. Anyways I was a blast to watch, thanks sir!
Props to Morgan for being able to talk to a camera in public like that too. I can barely even talk on the phone in public.
Keep going to the auctions Morgan! It would be fun to see Alfred too. Also, great home item auctions with Allison đ
Yes, I enjoyed this video
Yeah, he should bring Alfred.
@@IbelongtoJesus. Yeah we like Alfred!!
Alfred is certainly a cool dude, but he may also work for many of the other farmers who visit the auctions, so he wouldn't want to play favorites, even if they sing about him. Also, Julie, us gals would like to follow Allison to yard and garage sales, while Morgan can please all the many guys who enjoy being farmers and watching him figuring out auctions . I suspect Allison would make many and better deals in the long run.
Yes to Alfred! He could really help sus things out if you're not sure.
Sensible bidding was the way to go. That trailer would have taken 10 to 15 years to pay for itself at those prices, and it won't last that long without a lot of work.
We would like to thank you for your great videos from all of us at Lussier Auction, hope to see you at the sale on the 24th!
This was such a cool insight into farming. I really wonder if the farmers that talk down on other farmers that share on social media realize how beneficial it can be. I'm not even talking about finances. The more insight you have into the lives of others, the more sympathy you're able to gain. I didn't understand the difficulty of generational farms until I learned about it through channels like yours.
@Grow and Build Stuff Gatekeeping is the reason people are hesitant to start projects like this. They have a permaculture orchard, flocks of geese and chickens, cows, they sell the products they grow. Eventually, they'll be selling products from their cows. Their household income is largely supported by their farming. Get out of here with that crap.
Itâs so cool to see the farm growing both with new animals like the cattle/calfâs and all the new equipment
This auction feels like it's happening in a Western movie. So exotic and interesting to an Eastern European like me. Uplifting to think that stuff has been probably sold and re-sold this exact way for the last 100 years. Also, the auctioneer's got amazing enunciation!
Auctioneers actually go to school to learn how to do this!
The way auctioneers talk always confuses the shit out of me and is one of the main reasons I would never go to auctions to buy anything. Can't understand wtf they are saying, speaking too fast for my half brain dead self.
You would love a livestock auction!
@@rdizzy1 I completely agree, english is not my native language si I just heard "blblblblblblbl 50 dollars blblblblblblblb"
@@eldarr0uge482 I'm a native, and I can't follow it either. You were hearing the word 'bid' repeated many times.
LOVED THIS VIDEO! More, please! As a dedicated auction goer, I would say, try to be more subtle in your bidding. Never wave your card. Someone who knows you and doesnât approve of a ânewbieâ may choose to intentionally force your bid up out of sheer spite. Make eye contact with a staff member, and all you need is a slight nod, or a lifted finger, to indicate your intention. Cut the asked bid in half by holding your hand flat, palm down, down by your waist, and make a horizontal slicing moveâŠ. For example, if the auctioneer is asking for a $50 increase, a slicing move says youâre offering to raise by $25. Use this technique judiciously, tho - only towards the end when bidding slows for an item. You donât want to annoy the auctioneer when bidding is fast and furious at his/her requested raise amount. Watch other bidders closely, especially repeat winners, and learn from their techniques. Arriving early, making a list, researching, and setting your max price in advance, is an excellent methodology to minimize the chance of âauction fever regretsâ!! đ
It's not always sheer spite. Most times it's people who actually work for the bank or company who know you're a newbie or overly eager, and try and take advantage of that. They keep upbidding looking for signs you'll keep going, and when they read your body language you're almost done, they stop. If they bid too high, they usually have another auction soon after, where they know they can just sell it there. They're called dead ringers where I'm from, and the banks have spent a lot of money to make sure they're not illegal. I totally agree, you have to be very careful as a newbie, and act as cool as possible.
Excellent advice -- a lot of it is lessons learned, and thus very practical. Morgan, no waving, lol. Also, you don't need to jump in at the end -- at your highest price. People will come to know this quickly about you, and may up the price to shut you out. Plus, if you make an earlier bid, the auctioneer will keep an eye on you and come back to see if you'll bid again. This can help to make a higher bid more subtle (and halved like she described above). Or just subtlety shake your head 'no,' which he'll appreciate when you're done. Keep 'em guessing, Morgan, but make your bidding easy for the auctioneer. The dance -- PS But, you did great with the gates and well done!
I think that being subtle only really works for small auctions like this one. If you're at a big auction with hundreds of people then you'll never get a bid in like that unless you're at the front and wear something eye catching.
@@zebraloverbridget I always, always sit in the front (even if 250 in the room). I just stare at the auctioneer.
"akindofmagick" -- and that's why Morgan should never assume his audience is made up entirely of "guys" who know all there is to know about farming... I hope he reads your advice!
This was fun! One thing to bear in mind if you're looking to buy a stock trailer is how much your truck can tow safely. You don't want to buy at auction a trailer that you then need to buy a bigger truck to haul!
So very true.
Good point đ
I think he's right about just "Renting" or Hiring his neighbours to do it...
First, $300 for "Other side of Vermont and back" that seems like the basic cost of Gas, and maybe a Lunch for the guy....
Second, Aside from this being WAY cheaper, it's great to help out your neighbours, giving them work / money...
I always worry about too much trailer and contents, and the truck not being powered enough, then the tail wags the dog and youâre in a pinch. Not where you wish to be. Iâve had horses fall down in my trailer as Iâm going down the road, you want to have enough horsepower to not go off the road when that happens, always plan for the worst scenario. Good decision on the trailer.
@@lokithecat7225 Equipment « sharing » is what allows farmers in my region to survive. They rent out their equipment to each other, so they all have access to specialized and efficient equipment, while not having to buy them all. Also, thereâs some jobs where adding more people on the task make it a lot faster, so theyâll even work together on some projects.
I bought the furniture for my spare bedroom at an auction. The owner had passed, but tons of interesting history. It had been a telegraph office, post office, little country store in the middle of nowhere. Everything, including the house was auctioned off. The history in that house was amazing.
And yes, take Alfred to an auction.
My buddy Alfred!
Always have a buddy Alfred.
I liked this kind of video. And YES do take Alfred with you. That would be fantastic, Yeppy. A great day out. G-D Bless
I second this.
I live auctions! You did well! Restraint is not a bad thing at an auction. Keeping emotions in check regarding want and need is crucial to ward off buyers remorse!
Never been to a farm auction. This is very interesting and having a great time. Thanks for sharing.
I went to one north of Toronto Canada about 30 years ago, and it was a great time. But I had to laugh at city people with money to play with bidding/winning on the said apple wooden baskets filled with rusty nails and bent out of shape rusty strap hinges....sheesh!
Glad you got the gates!
Good on you for sticking with your budget!
Morgan and Alfred go to the Auctions could even be its own series! I'd definitely watch it.
Farm auctions always make me sad too. We have a family farm that's been in the family over 100 years and though I never was in farming (the farm was a fun trip on summer weekends) my dad has stories from when he grew up with his great and grand parents and dad. One story was about a neighbor that lost his farm and he ended up hanging himself in the barn. His widow ended up hosting the liquidation by herself and my dad was furious that his dad went to that auction. So now that story is tied with my view on auctions
Your dad was angry? with his dad for offering financial aid for what would otherwise go to waste! no wonder you didn't hang around he sounds like a plank .
@@bobbybobstar1496 I think Dad was more upset because the money wasn't going to the family but the bank or at least that was what dad thought. He felt like his dad had blood on his hands after buying from the auction since the bank had been so predatory.
@@starofgalaxies I see .
Morgan you did well, you stuck to your self imposed budget and did not get caught up in the excitement of the auction. Good price on the gates.
You have to be very careful as a newbie to auctions. I once went to a car auction, and I noticed that the same guys kept bidding up the cars that I was interested in. I came back the next month, and the same cars were still there, up again for auction. They were definite ringers, up bidding to people they thought they could get.
@@11matt11 been there, seen that also. In fact it got so bad we quit going all together.
In my "nonfarmer" opinion... I had 4K on my mind as a reasonable price for that trailer. I think you made the right decision!
Same. He said a brand new one was 8K, so I thought the one in the auction was half the quality (age & rust) so half price 4K was a good number to cap his bidding.
I enjoyed the the auction, but especially because you included your process on how you bid.
Hello how are you doing?
Good job, Morgan! You stuck to your guns and didn't raise the price for someone else who needed it more. I'm proud of you!!!
This was pretty interesting. If Alfred wants to come he might be able to help you evaluate how fixable things like a trailer would be too.
Helping one person, Alfred would draw a crowd to listen in, and, favoring Morgan, Alfred might lose some customers among the farmers who wonder what is so special about the newbie farmer (even though MG writes songs). I can easily imagine Alfred working for the farmer who is selling the equipment, or for the auction house, preparing things for sale.
Interesting vid. The thing with auctions is you never can tell how they will go. One day the price will be low, the next it will be high. It was the right call to set yourself a target price and not look to go over it.
There is a lot we miss by not being there. The fresh airâŠ..how wonderful the grass smellsâŠ.puffy clouds for shade. Makes me think of my childhood living in the country.
I live in the country and a farmer down the road past away about a 1.5 years ago and the auction had about 200 people show up. Lots of chevy and ford pick ups streamed down the road to the farm. For about a month straight farmers were pulling out old tractors, trucks, mule pulled implements etc. itâs sad to know the farmer passed but his stuff lives on.
I was actually very interested in this so I'd be happy to watch more like it.
Watched and loved. Gotta say though your method of deciding your limit on each item and sticking to it is probably the best way to go. Itâs easy to get carried away at these things
That was really fun to watch. I'd go for more videos like this, plus it's always nice to see OUR buddy Alfred. đ
Keep doing these types of videos. This is farming life. It's not all green pastures and cute animals.
I'm from farming stock over in Scotland and know that there are lots of activities that can be covered throughout the year.
I recommend that you continue to document all aspects of your journey as a way to highlight the rural experience.
Yes make more with Alfred love to see him in more videos you're amazing love your videos
Your gut told you no! Well done . Best wishes from Scotland
Keep going to farm auctions. Very interesting to see your rational about why and how much to spend.
Anything involving dragging Alfred along on is definitely wanted by me! I love the song đ
Taking Alfred with you to an auction would be fun.
He would know exact price it's worth, and tell you when to stop, a few seconds later show you a newer one he found online, that is actually a cheaper price.
I was thinking what you said out loud about it being sad.
Great video. I like watching auctions. I think you did the right thing by not overbidding on the items. Sometimes people get into a bidding war and tend to overpay. You were smart to find what you needed and set the max price.
That actually looked like it might be a legit auction. I helped run furniture auctions all over Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. The auctioneer was also the owner of the furniture store. He knew what prices he wanted for each product so pretended to have multiple bidders even when there was only one person bidding. For bigger auctions, he hired shills to bid in the audience to make it look more legit. We once had a bidder ask who was bidding against him. We didn't have any shills working that auction. Luckily, the crowd booed and the auction continued. The crowd saved us that day...
Of course if you take Alfred....let's hear his song!!
I like these auction videos, it's a unique perspective into second hand trading among the community. Keep it up, Morgan!
That wood price joke was solid
I've had the same experience at these auctions. Either the seller has a price they won't disclose, which is usually way higher, or the bidding is way more then I think things were worth, which makes me question if I know the value of things. But you did good. you had a price, you stuck with it, and you didn't get caught up.
Sometimes it is a matter of convenience so people will pay more to get the item on that day vs waiting to find the same item at a cheaper price a week or months later.
@@zebraloverbridget I agree, I've been at auctions where you could tell the auction house was having a hard time with tdd he starting prices.. it's funny when the item gets low, and everyone stands there with thier arms crossed.
@@TheBussaca those are the auctions where you can get the best deals though. Auctions with strict minimums are the worst tbh especially when no one will bid that minimum
HELLO TO ALL FROM SIBERIAđ€đ„łâ€ïžđ€©đ
You handled the auction perfectly. Well done!
An auction vid with Alfred would be really fun!
This was a fun video topic. I know I would appreciate others... and a My Buddy Alfred is always a delight.
Very interesting... I think you played the game right, good restraint
Loved it. I would like to see more videos like this one. You did a great job and staying disciplined really made it easy for you.
Reminds me of the summer I spent on my gramps farm. We had had to round up half his sheep for an auction. What a fun experience. Rest In Peace Francis love you.
Make more...newbies need to see how they work and learn to control getting carried away. And us for us oldies it brings back happy memories...how about cattle etc. Auction...
Alfred đ We always want more of Alfred !
That was fun. That high tensile wire had a lot of interest. With the economy as it is, I can see why people would have increased interest in auctions now.
Thanks for bringing us along Morgan.
I like the change of pace of this video. It shows a different aspect of homesteading/farming life. My mother once went to one in upstate New York with my aunt. She said it was very enjoyable and she had a great time.
You did good job. Donât buy what you donât need
i like this type of video, its fun to watch even if you don't end up getting anything.
Hello how are you doing?
Great video! I like to see that you're disciplined enough to let some things go versus sticking to your guns with the fence.
GREAT VIDEO! We all love seeing the farm and the animals but seeing stuff thatâs out of the ordinary is just as entertaining.
It's already farm auction time again! Time flies :)
Really enjoyed this. My dad used to take us to auctions like this when sunburns were the norm-who could afford suntan lotion!! I agree with the other commenters that I was glad you drove away happy and not with buyerâs remorse. Yes to your buddy Alfred next timeđ„°
This was really interesting to watch. Loved seeing your thinking process behind the items you chose to bid on and deciding on the price cap beforehand to avoid impulsivity.
Those gates can be cleaned up with a wire brush and sprayed with high heat resistant spray paint for about ten bucks! Great deal!!
I enjoyed the auction.thank you for bringing us
Err at 1:16 there appears to be a poor man already locked up in there
Oh yeah,,Thank you for sharing your pleasures and your struggles, with your wife and your personal touch to the animals you have been trusted raising
One aspect that is super awesome about this is just that Morgan is reusing already made materials and not have to go out and get brand new stuff. Remember the 3 'R's from school: Reuse, reduce, recycle!
Auctions are great places to people watch when you have time. But, I wouldnât buy anything at an auction unless: I knew the people who owned the items and how they cared for the equipment OR I knew how to maintain/repair the equipment. Hope you have fun.
I really love auction videos
So suspenseful
This was neat! I like seeing the day to day of your farm, it makes it feel really special while also demonstrating that it is hard work, which i appreciate!
I miss farm auctions as much as I miss having my small farm. I especially loved going through the barns and outbuildings on the old, old farms in the Midwest where I have spent most of my life.
I liked this video, and always enjoy visiting equipment auctions IRL in the UK. I think you made the right decision on the trailer, the rust was trivial but it needed a new hitch and some metal work on the front. I did expect you might take all the gates for making a cattle handling pen.
Many years ago we used to visit the farmers market close our holiday home. They sold vegetables mostly. I was fascinated by the auctioneer. I would nag my parents to take me. I could never understand how anyone could understand what he was saying. One of my favourite childhood memories.
That was fascinating. I would have been so overwhelmed. I couldnât understand what was happening in the bidding. He was speaking so fast!
I really enjoyed that. Please more. You need a livestock trailer in an emergency. Having lived through a couple of evaluation it is critical to have your own.
Hello how are you doing?
I really enjoyed it and itâs all part of farming and trying to save money. Knowing what things cost is knowing what to bid. Two for the price of one works for me. The trailer was a luxury really but 35 years old no not worth $4,000. $3,000 would have been my max.
I love this kind of content
WOW!!! I'm SHOCKED!!! I think they are all bidding high... WOW!!
Ha Ha, I was thinking you should have brought your buddy Alfred, (and then the tune started running through my head for the rest of he vlog),lol. It was fun, I'd watch if you do it again! Thanks Morgan, always great to see you.
It was fun! I was rooting for you NOT to overpay for the trailer, good choice.
I enjoyed the video! Nice to see what happens at auctions.
Nearly lost my shit hearing you say that that little marking looked like the Dead Kennedys symbol đ Made my day!
I have a lot of respect for you Morgan for not letting yourself get carried away at the auction. Good for you. I enjoyed watching this and I don't mind what sort of videos you make as long as they are based around your life working your farm and caring for your livestock. It's all interesting.
Yes, More vids like this to show how you get things to improve your farm one step at a time.
Enjoyed! Yes to more auctions! And animals - makes us all smile and entertains our 'lil house cat' Gabby ;)
đYou are such a sensitive, kind and smart person. You should transform your farm into a farm sanctuary⊠with your ability to convince people you surely would get enoug donations. đ
Auctions are fun. I just love listening to the patter of the auctioneer -- that's almost a separate language all its own.
Well, at least you got those gates, a lot cheaper than if you'd bought them new. The day wasn't entire wasted.
Morgan, that was a very well planned approach. The whole video is good at showing your thinking processes. You stayed close to your plan on the trailer and that is important. You do know there will be opportunities in the future. The need is not great now. If the need increases (it could) and you might be in a better financial situation too, so getting a better condition trailer later just might be possible. So many variables to consider.
Glad you got those panels. Yes watching this part of farm life is interesting too.
I agree. Good points đ
Love your videos Morgen thank you for them
This was fun. I think it was smart that you set a price ahead of time and stuck with it. Sometimes we want stuff and overspend. Difference between wanting and needing.
Actually enjoyed watching the Auction. Good Job Morgan on your gates.
Hello how are you doing?
Great grab on the gates! They'll work out great for something. You crack me up - you lost your number! Oops! I like auctions. I like the chatterer - he was great!
Hello Morgan! It was great seeing you again. I bailed early on that auction. The chipper was just too darned big for my tractor and that was all I was interested in! The tag trailer was nice but too light duty for my equipment.
Let me know if I can help out with some rough sawn fence posts or other lumber!
-Mark
Please bring Alford with you next time, It would be great to hear how he can restore some of the old farm equipment - who knows he might get you to start a new project...
That lightning fast talking is so funny! And necessary of course!
This was nice, Iâd come along anytime.
The trailer I would have gone to 4500. It was somewhat rusty but that could be cleaned. Having a trailer is needed on a farm.
Well the trailer went for $4600 so he wouldnât have gotten it anyway.
Way too much.
@@alphanerd7221 Agreed, you can find these old trailers for $2,200. to 2,800. relatively easily with better floors and tires on them...and better paint on them.
I love farm auctions! Morgan, as you attend more of them, you will realize what a social event they are.
So Excited to see the farm growing in size and quality. I appreciate you sharing how you budget.
