- Ronhill Reverence review - first run and first impressions. Well, I never thought this day would come when I'd be testing and reviewing a trail running shoe from the Ronhill brand! Having used and sold their running apparel for many years, I never thought they would dive into the tricky world of running shoe development. However, in today's video we are taking out their brand new Reverence trail shoe for its first run. With a Matryx upper construction and an aggressive Michelin rubber outsole, I'm expecting good things, so let's lace them up and get running!
Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

I’ve got a pair of the Ronhill tracksuit bottoms. Foot loops, white piped seems, makes me feel like an PE teacher from the 80s and they were only £20. Perfect for when it’s muddy and cold!
Good afternoon. I don't knew this brand. Thanks Loyd. Here is my Like. A nice weekend for everyone.
Great shoe that have definitely been designed for the mountains, not "trails" had mine for about a month now they need a few decent days in the fells to warm them up, grip is quality on wet limestone, mud and wet grass, not mega cushioned but neither are a single pair of inoshites! These are class on sharp rock bounce around on them without eyes watering. Laces need improvement as come undone easily. Over all class mountain shoes that I've used in every condition in the past month. Hope they take off
To be fair they look like they are made by the same company that produce Inov8 shoes, i tried them on but couldn’t get past the in the shop feel.
@marccastle8249 ha ha ha naa I've had them 3 weeks and they've not dropped to bits yet so can't be inoshite lol, yeah I can see why you thought no in the shop, once been wet and sofened up feel great on the mountains, I'd not want to be doing low level trail paths in them though definitely not made for that.
Thanks for the info, glad you’re enjoying your shoes 👍🙂
Definitely thinking about trying these for next seasons XC
Nice Review 👌
I love the Ron Hill clobber I’ve got loads of it, top video as always
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching 🙏🙂
Checking these out next week. Look perfect for the Lakes. Ron hill make some great clothing, the tech range is really good and the hilly socks are great. Very underrated and I guess not as popular as inov8, Salomon, etc
Still buying the tracksters, got 3 pairs, very versatile....parkrun at East Grinstead and then had a coffee in Gatwick Airport with the family on a stop over 😊
Nice one Robin 👍🙂
Great review! Are you testing the Freedom shoe too?
A big fan of Ronhill kit, was looking at some in Go Outdoors in Plymouth a couple of days ago
Hilly socks 👍🏼
After watching your spectacular video, I can't imagine running on pavement.
The two things I like about this shoe are the deep luggage of the out soles and the Matrix fabric uppers.
Thanx for the video my Running Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲
@run4adventure when you say true to size... Is that true to the foot or true to size with other brands. Eg I'm a 10.5 in shoes and 11.5/12 in trail /fell shoes.
Thanks for a well put together 1st look 👍
Can't believe how well the cleaned up after taking them out for a muddy run!
I know, it was really easy to get them that clean as well 👍🙂
Many thanks Loyd, this shoe has a hint of Walsh shoes about it. I think RH made some other shoes a while back. I use their clothing a lot.
I think they did John but I’m not sure the brand was taking it that seriously back then like they are now 👍
Hope you’re fit and well, thanks for watching 🙏
Very interesting shoe. I really like the outsole and grip and don't mind it being a bit on the heavy side. Thats a price I gladly pay for a good grip. They look like a good shoe for orienteering running in the winter season. How will you compare the midsole up against the new MudTalon?
The freedoms have a 4mm lug. Would like to see a review on these. ❤ the content
I’ve seen the Freedoms, I’ll see what I can do. Thanks for watching 🙏🙂
Looks promising - long distance fell shoe maybe rather than a trail shoe? I’m a big fan of the Michelin rubber that vivobarefoot use for their ESC shoes so should be good
these look good. i am looking for a good all rounder for the UK chase running ( like shown in this video lol ) that can tackle mud of autumn, firm trail ground and the loose stuff. i am looking at the speedcross 6, hoka speed goat 5, but not keen on the styling of those hoka goats and prefer the looks of the Agility peak 5, so maybe they are an option or MTL Long Sky 2 ? i want them to be light and fast as well though. only for for 5k to 10k runs, please help with ideas?
I used to run in Ron hill rivington pikes trail running shoes in the late 80s they definitely used to make running shoes
Yes. They had a solid range in the late-80s and early-90s. The Rivington Pike. Also a multi-coloured racing flat. And spikes.
Are you planning to do the invo8 mudtalon version not the speed one?
Loyd I want ask you your opinion for the jackal boa.I am ar runner 80kg.Its OK for me?
👍🏻👍🏻
Great to see the brand doong this but to my eyes they look a bit naff. Definitely look more like fell shoes but i know nothing about fell running to know of the stack height suits that. Also they seem very heavy but again maybe that means super durable and maybe thats what you do with fell shoes. Good luck to them but these are not for me
Not true. Ron Hill produced a racing shoe back in the 80s. It was a multi coloured acid print. Called the machu pico or similar
Weren’t they track spikes, not running shoes 👍
I thought it was the Rivington pike, they might have been even earlier, they were bright slime green
Andy’s correct - they currently have a pair on display at the museum in Ambleside.
@@27johnny lol, I dont need the museum, I bought a pair(Rivington Pikes)! They were half a size too small so didn’t get out I them much!
How did you get that fly on the wall footage from ronhill HQ?? 😉
That’s the lengths we go to at the channel to bring you guys quality content 😂
How do these compare to the old Salomon Slab Sense 6 SG?
The Ronhill shoe is nothing like Salomons S/Lab Sense 6 SG. It’s a lot heavier and stiffer in the midsole. The Salomon S/Lab Pulsar 3 that I just tested is a lot more like the Sense 6 SG 👍🙂
@@Run4Adventure , thanks for the swift reply!
Didn’t mention the thing that’s most interesting to me - the foot shaped last that they’re built on. As someone with fairly narrow, but very ‘foot shaped’ feet this is intriguing. Obviously this is a direction that Inov8 have taken recently too.
Great review though. Might pick these up - should suit the High Peak perfectly.
To be honest I didn’t mention it because they aren’t really foot shaped? It fits like a standard shoe, where as the new Inov8’s are definitely foot shaped 👍
It’s actually not the first Ron Hill running shoe or even Ron Hill trail
Shoe.
I had a pair of Ron Hill ‘Rivington pikes’ fell
Shoe in the 80s when Walsh’s or the Rivington Pikes were the only trail/fell shoe choices in the market.
They were a bright slime green and yellow colour
Interesting, i actually wear quite a bit of Ronhill clothing. It's a bit overpriced now but very comfy.
Im on the lookout for new trail trainers. What would you recommend ?
Hokaspeed goat 5 ?
I love my Speedgoat 4 and 5s. They are great road to trail. Always gave me a lot of confidence. Just check the fit. The upper on the 5s stretches over time.
135 bucks for the shoes dont seem to bad too compared with other brands and the materials that are used
Ronhill clothing over priced? I’ve always thought it’s good value for the quality. Trail shoes are such a personal thing, obviously the Hoka Speedgoat 5’s are a deeply cushioned trail shoe and not everyone wants that 👍
@Run4Adventure The reason I think it's overpriced is that it doesn't last long, but I still buy the brand for the material they use, saying that lately I've turned to Craft.
These Ronhill trainers look OK to be honest, I do love Sacouny Peregrine so might just stick to them.
Cheers Lloyd.
look like inov8
A shoe design for the UK
They've sold their own shoes before, back in the 90's. But they weren't very good, to be polite..
Matryx is awful on the wallet and the foot.
It sounds like you’ve had some bad experiences Steven? I’ve always got on well with Matryx, it is expensive but it tends to last well 👍
@@Run4Adventure that's good to hear. I think it just comes down to each individual brand and how well they design and develop around the strengths and limitations of the material. It's amazing this little brand has been able to offer a Matryx fabric at such an approachable price point.
