I completely disagree with this. Think about the players in other teams like Brazil and Spain etc when England had Scholes, Ferdinand etc. England had no chance of winning then. Now England now have similar talents to that of Scholes Ferdinand etc. And they also have a chance of winning because they are only 3-4 national teams that are similar (or slightly better than that). If Southgate wins it, he deserves credit with winning against the 3-4 teams, but we can't say it's because England weren't able to go as far as they went in the past. That I completely disagree with. The quality of footballers in each national team the past is completely different from the quality of players now.

Italy with pirlo n cannavaro etc brazils 3Rs zidanes France Germany wiv klose etc the teams around the world were so much better England’s were not favourites to win competitions at that time and yet they were the supposed golden generation. The last "golden generation" was overhyped. Lampard and Gerrard were great in sides that had technical European players dictating the play, allowing them to excel where they were best. There's no way they were going to control games against Europe's best. Remember when the English media made a big deal of Gerrard vs Pirlo, was it 2014? Gerrard got embarrassed. They should have built a team around Scholes, the Carrick, then Wilshere.
As an Irishman, I delight in seeing the English media excessively build up England teams and players, then vilify them when they fail (but not United players). But I have to say, this squad of players is the best England team I've seen. The only problem is finding Kane's successor. If he was 5 years younger it would be game over.

The sad reality about the England team is that the weakness is in the coach. If England win something, they'd win the Euro's in spite of the coach. A coach usually lifts the players and elevates the standards they'd normally play at. Southgate, unfortunately, decreases their potential. This England team is balanced, young, talented and have more world class players in the team than they've ever had before. With a great coach, they would be a problem. Gareth Southgate is THE only problem with the England team.

Yeah Southgate took England to semi finals and finals. But look at the quality of opposition on the route to those journeys compare it to our exits during the golden generation.
Truth: By 2nd season, Southgate would of gotten a better tune out of the squad as a whole. Sure he may not be a big enough upgrade over ETH, but the current manager had x1 great performance in which Liverpool could have still easily won, and now fans are holing onto him for dear life is crazy. I been saying for the last 20 matches prior that we have top 3 worst managers in the Prem. Only Dalot has excelled and it's probably down to the player himself.... ETH has been getting 35% possession vs regulation clubs. I have never seen such a disjoined side after a couple of injuries. It means the squad are suffering. Defense wide open, midfield bypassed in 1 pass, attack scoring an extremely low amount of goals. We are not supposed to easily remember each and every goal we scored this season! We are 6th for a reason. Ole was better.
