Even if losing $1.17B is a smart business strategy(it's not), I fail to see how this strategy would benefit the American people.

You're absolutely right. Tax revenue is used for all sorts of things that benefit the American people. Trump is now admitting (still lying, but an admission by his own word) that he treated paying taxes like a sport. Yet somehow these "red blooded American patriots" that support him think this is all just find and dandy.
Those same people are probably wondering why their kid's public school is doing so badly, or why their welfare benefits are less than previous years, or why the bridge in their town is on the brink of collapse.

_"Why would you want to read the report before we discuss it next week?"_
Why indeed, Jim. Sitting down with a bunch of people to discuss the content of a 400 page book none of us have even read. That sounds great!
Why would we want to read it beforehand? How could that possibly be of any importance to the quality of the hearing...

@TheOne WhoWelds the problem is it's not illegal for Congress to request those documents. Also that conservative talking point ignores The Supporting Documents Which will likely total more than the 400 page report. Those conditions are artificially difficult, and meant to limit them. Congressmen have other responsibilities at physically different locations, so mobility is necessary for any political party. (Democrats and Republicans have used this kind of tactic against one another before. Ex: give a several hundred page bill 24hrs before a vote, etc)
They declined the offer to read the report in a specific room, with a limited number of people, without the use of their aides for research.
Congress writes the federal laws, and they didn't write a federal law that forced the redaction. Congress has the legal right to demand even grand jury testimony, especially for an investigation of their own.
Last month, a 2 to 1 decision (Ruth Bader Ginsburg was one of them) who decided Grand Jury testimony could not be released for certain reasons, in a case where a researcher wanted to publish a book and use Grand Jury testimony from some decades ago.
You're being given half truths about the laws.
Barr and the executive branch are technically putting on a show because they will lose in court, as Congress has this right, but the courts and appeals will take years, thus delaying their legal request.

    • @TragoudistrosMPH
      @TragoudistrosMPH Před 5 lety

@TheOne WhoWelds subpoena legitimacy isn't a legal clause, it's news talking points and opinions.
Clinton's phones are being mischaracterized to form a narrative that didn't occur. She had 13 phones over those years, and when she got a new one, the old one was destroyed. They weren't destroyed once the subpoena came about. She shouldn't have had the private server, but the other portions are exaggerated.
The probe wasn't completely empty. There was no criminal conspiracy to collude. That's true. However they did find attempts to collude, example Trump Jr, but prosecutorally speaking, the case could too easily have been argued against by the defense because "you have to prove that he committed those action, knowing it was illegal at the time." His lawyer could instruct him to say he didn't know it was a crime (which could be true or false), and Trump Jr wouldn't face charges. It's a rare example where not knowing that you were committing a crime can exonerate you, legally.
Michael Cohen reached out to one of the Russian government officials, but typed a wrong letter in the email address, and got no response.
A second Russian official, in the energy sector, requested a meeting, twice, and the campaigning administration reached out, but to an Olympian with the same name.
The report wasn't empty, but it did not have a prosecutable example of criminal conspiracy to commit collusion to win the election. Those 3 examples are just 3 of many that showed how tiny mistakes prevented solid cases. So, you're not wrong on collusion, but you are wrong by degree, because it was a near thing, but near is still not collusion :)
It's still fairly accurate to say No Collusion, and Democrats aren't challenging that. Obstruction of Justice is where Barr and Mueller disagreed, privately and openly.
The Democrats aren't afraid of Barr, that is a strawman talking point. They would have to had committed crimes to fear Barr. Probability alone means someone has committed some crime, but there are no probable crimes. Even the strawman arguments aren't providing what crime may have been committed.
I'll have to look up Clairborne, but it doesn't sound connected to any of these proceedings... (Republicans have an unusual habit of 'whataboutism' where unrelated wrongdoings are discussed instead of the issue at hand. Democrats find it odd because it's not seen as a competition, by us, it's about the morality of the issue at hand. Comparing crimes is a different discussion, and won't exonerate one case because someone else committed a crime). Still, I don't know about it, and I like learning new things :)

@jo camble "Our economy is doing great" - ??? Right?! And that is why the Dow is going nowhere - still not back to the high of early 2018. AND - Trump just STUFFED it worse with more China trade war talk. And it is just not you in the US. What that IDIOT is doing reaches much further than that.
