- 190 miles and 28,000 feet of ascent, that is what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright on his Coast to Coast walk which he completed in 1972. Starting in St Bees on the west coast of England we endeavour to complete our journey by arriving in Robin Hoods Bay in 12 days.

My daughter and I, had chosen late July early August for this transverse in the hope that the weather would be reasonable. However, the weather gods had decided to share one of the worst summers on record, severe weather warnings seemed to be the norm for our journey.
As will be seen in the videos this did not curtail our ambition, we still did a number of nights wild camping but also varied our experience by using pub gardens the YHA and other great campsites. This was also an opportune moment to test our individual solo tents which included the Nero OSMO Hornet tent and the MSR Hubba Nx Tent.
This second video of three, shows the 51 mile challenge we encounter through Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales from Shap to Richmond.
The 2 Moors Way is a fabulous walk taking in both Exmoor and Dartmoor and probably in my top 5.
Totally agree, and surprised it’s not more popular.
My childhood was in England. We used to march in competitions with Juvenile Jazz Band at Richmond Castle. Fond memories. Enjoying your walks from flat and hot New Orleans.
Welcome to the channel. I so enjoy hearing how places evoke memories past. Thanks for sharing
Honnêtement,j’ai beaucoup aimé la vidéo et les beaux paysages
Mes respects pour Nigel
Great job 😊
Really appreciate the wonderful comment, thanks
It must be strange to go from big open spaces to such a big and interesting town like Richmond
Must admit, prefer the open spaces, but as an urban space this market town has a lot going for it. Thanks for watching
Yes I have walked this LDP and enjoyed it very much. It’s good to have the sea at both ends and that wonderful town of Richmond to visit.
Having done the 2 Moors Way, half of Cambrian Way, Pennine Way, Cleveland Way, Hadrians Wall, North Norfolk Coastal Path et. I highly recommend the Wainwright walk.
Totally agree it’s highly recommended. Quite a collection of completions there. Two Moors Way done with a series of videos, the remainder are on my to do list with maybe the Cleveland Way in a few weeks time. Thanks for watching and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Cheers

Enjoyed this section even though I ended thigh deep in a bog on the moors behind 9 Standards Rigg - mind you, the heavens opened as we approached Ravenseat just to wash the peat off my leg.
I can relate to that and it was interesting to talk to others who had similar fate crossing these moors on the wettest July in years.
Thank you for this, I did the trail back in May and it was fantastic to watch it back. Can't wait for the next part!
Glad you enjoyed it, the trail is certainly one of the best. Cheers
@@AmblingTrails you're very much welcome. For context for you it was me you gave a shout out to in Lingy Hut when you were doing the northern fells this is just my CZcams. Keep them coming love your videos.
Wow, nice to meet you again and thanks. Bit of a coincidence but I’ve jus been to the hut today! Planning to do a trail review for the Cumbria Way and been asked a couple of times about N to S, so I thought I would try it, of course could not resist a rest in the hut. Thanks for support. Cheers Nigel
@@AmblingTrails Fantastic, what are the chances! It's such a great trail the Cumbria Way, hope you enjoy it and the weather doesn't turn on you too often this week 🤞🥾
Looks like you had similar weather when me and the missus did the CtoC in 2007, it was sideways rain coming across the Moor and that was in July as well😂
Exactly! 😉
The most beautiful country is England -nature- and far away of big cities . Cold sometimes? Not watching your great videos from here, south Florida! 😎👋
Ha, I wear sunglasses to keep the stinging windy rain out of my eyes 😎. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the rest of the series.
@@AmblingTrails I watched already few of them. Wonderful, THANK YOU!
👍🏼😁🥾🏔🦆⛺️
Hello, please could you let me know why there are different routes depending on the time of year? Is this due to shooting or weather related? Thanks!
Certainly, they are trying to limit erosion, so there are three routes which are used at a specific time of year to allow the ground to recover in turn. The route sequence has been chosen to align with the seasons and yes chosen with the expected weather in mind. Thanks for watching and I did enjoy the question, happy to help with any further queries you might have.
