@DavidBrandNew no way I just realized this. You live at my old house. I moved in 2015. That’s crazy.
@DavidBrandNew
Love that you were willing to tinker with the bike. Glad that it worked after all. You’re too funny, she’s done except this and this and oh yea the wires.
I ordered mine a two weeks ago and am waiting for it to come in.
Question.. and answer. -. Your video is very good. But for some of us following along we like for you put the Internet links to where your purchasing these upgrades so that I, .myself can upgrade my bike as well . Thanks
Make sure to set the speed controller to highest speed setting. All brushless controllers have 3 speeds & the preset is the mid speed. Look for the plug labelled "3 speed" it should have 3 wires. Usually black in middle with a brown & blue/purple. The blue needs connecting to the black to enable highest speed. But the colours may be different on your controller so just test to by connecting either colour to the blacl in turn. Should gain you another 3 or 4 mph top end
I will look for those wires. Thanks 👍🏽
Your video is outstanding! You are not afraid to let people see your entire experience and to show your fearlessness. In engineering, it is common to not know everything when you start out. The key is to ASSUME SOMETHING. Maybe it doesn't work, maybe it does. Either way, you learn what to do next. Thank you.
Thanks! I was on the verge of giving up. I was running out of ideas. But in the end we got it to work. Now I just need to figure out the lights and pedal assist
Bro if you could do a write up wiring diagram and link the parts you bought that would be sick
As always, love the video. I am also going your advice from the other day regarding dual motors. I am wondering if you have a suggestion as to where to get a 500w replacement controller. Lectric is sending a new one because my XP quit. However, I would like to have a workable backup as well. I appreciate any suggestions or advice,. Thanks.
Very cool. Good job. Gotta hand it to you for perseverance. I would have backed out early on. With that battery you should have a nice range.
Excellent work!!
Great job! sometimes the journey to success, is the best part, Because now, you know. Would like to do this, to my ecotric fat tire.
Congrats on getting the joint rolling again, I knew third time was the charm 😉
Torque is your best friend going up those hills, and that was the main reason I upgraded.
I think that battery has a discharge rate of 20 amps, so your controller still has more to give.
Lookin' forward to the drag racing!
Thanks! I was close to giving up and scrapping the video lol.
Can you explain the discharge rate to me? So I’m not actually reaching the 35amps the controller is rated for?
@@DavidBrandNew couldn't you go in the settings and increase the top speed too?
That looks nice! I gota see this. I actually got a 52V battery in route for my other bike but shid I will use it for the XP if I have to lol
You should get a higher top speed with it unless the Lectric motor limits it
I thinking about eventually upgrading the hub motor and controller. For right now I'm happy watching your videos🛵
Thanks man. I have a new hub coming soon 💪🏽
Nice job yall did on that! If and when I find some handy help I might try something of the sort on mine!
Its like a completely different bike
nice job David, keep pushing the level. You & Urban Grizzly turning it up on the XPs on the west coast, SoCal Style!
Thanks Reg. 👊🏽
Looking at the appearance of the bike, I had a few aesthetic ideas. Rather than having the batter on top of the tube would it look better putting it on the underside? I know all the wires were there but since you removed the internal battery perhaps there's now room to route all those wires inside the tube for an even cleaner look + allowing easy mounting of the battery below.
You guys have guts! I have a nervous breakdown when I have to put air in the tires!!
😂
Good stuff. Very helpful and real.
Thanks!
Ambitious mod. Glad you were able to trouble shoot through it. Way to squeeze more performance out of it.
Yea man like you, I feel like I’m riding a new bike now. It hits 28mph throttle only and about 31 with pedaling.
Lmao I accidentally deleted your comment. I was trying to reply to it 😂 I read it tho.
You definitely should do a power upgrade. I would go the Grizz route if you’re afraid of burning out your motor. I got something more powerful coming so I wasn’t scared if things got messed up
A great way to learn. Maybe next time use a multimeter and learn even more. Thank you for the video I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching 👊🏽
Loved you’see honesty re the controller replacement. Most of us are ‘living the dream one day at a time’ with our bikes too😂
Thanks for the video. I got a Lectric without the battery for cheap off of FB Marketplace. I simply put a 52v battery on it and it worked fine and everything worked as it should after I tuned up the brakes. I’ve shunt modded other controllers in the past. Have u ever tried shunt modding the stock controller? Shunt modding will give it more amps. I’m tempted to do mine, but I don’t have a spare/backup oem controller. Higher voltage and amperage should increase the top speed and torque.
I hope you can get all the connections working. Don't do a LA Eastgate test until you get things straight. I think they is something in the Lectric motor that limits speed. Can't wait to see your results. Lectric for life!
Yea I at least need to get pedal assist working.
You got mad skills. Not only that...you are braver than I am and I've faced many life and death situations. I don't know if you put those forks on with shocks in them, but I would love to know EXACTLY what to buy to accomplish that. Great videos.
Hey I actually found these forks on offerup and they don’t have any branding. If you want this exact look get 26” fat fork.
Nice!!! That's a lil' beast!
Thanks 👊🏽
Will the new battery allow it go further? I want to get more power but also longer use as well.
Love your energy man, great videos! Can’t wait to see you blow up. If you’re ever in colorado, let’s cruise, I’ll onewheel if you’re down to slow down a bit 😆
Yea man I’m down 👊🏽
Can you make a video about how to add turning lights to LectricXp? Wired ones?
Heyy I need some help with my current lectric xp 1.0. So i just recently made a big upgrade to the bike on swapping out the old stock motor to the new 48v 1000w hub motor along with new 52v 40A controller with new ktlcd 8 color display. Do you any ideas which display settings should i fix for my bike to read properly the speed. Because when i start throttling, it says 50mph while it isn’t true either because in my phone it reads solid 30 mph. Idk why it doesn’t read properly the speed on my new display. I did set the tire size to 20in
Looks like it's time for a hill climb and drag race between you and Urban Grizzly. Looking forward to the premiere!
Yes indeed 👍🏽
😈...lol
😆 Glad to see y’all brothers doing the damn thing
so i have gotrax ebe4, which only has 350w motor, and I am desperate for a motor upgrade. Problem is, I have 4 batteries that goes inside the frame, like lectrix XP does. If i get a whole new controller and motor, do I have to get a different battery like you did here?
Hey my freind, what size fork are you using there? and also what rise handle bar?
17mph with no peddling up that hill is not bad at all.
Yea man it will be interesting to see if pedal assist gives me more speed
Hey David, could you please share the model number of the controller used?
how can a 500w motor turn into 1500w motor with 1500w controller, thinking of doign the upgrade too, dont u need to get 1500w motor to get the full 1500w power?
Do you have an aliexpress or amazon link for the upgraded controller?
Dang Bro! Your getting so good at troubleshooting one the joint that you are a Ebike shop! would love to see a race between Leticia and Red Bone! Great video as always got my like!
Thanks man. Redbone vs Leticia will be the next video for sure.
I was in SD this weekend but I was with family. Next time I’ll bring my bike and we can go for a ride 👊🏽
@@DavidBrandNew Oh heck yes!!!!!
But did you replace the hub motor to a 1000w or 1500w motor?
how do you know which wires to splice. which go where, etc. why dont u do a video on your process.
What is the size of the rear dropouts on the lectric?
Any way to modify factory bike to go faster than 20 mph with just throttle?
How is your boy urban grizzly he upgraded his bike and seen his videos and now you’re upgrading your bike awesome I’m really starting to like the Lectric XP,, nice
Yea I was inspired by his upgrade
@ David, I see you upgraded to suspension forks. I did not see a video tutorial on how you did it but could you please let me know what headset you purchased to go from threaded to clamping Forks Thanx
Hey man yea I didn’t post a video on it. I used this one. Let me know if you have any other questions

Banger! I have the 26in Speedrid by Ancheer, pretty sure has the same exact motor as the XP. (You know they move, no stock Radrover is going to keep up with me) put a little extra speed wouldn't hurt . though I'm really good with a soldering iron, I haven't the guts to do what you did . (No guts no glory!) My plan is down the road is to replace the entire system with a Bafang kit I found on line. 25amp controller with 1000w motor. They say it does 31 mph, but with 52 volt battery probably will go a little faster. For whatever reason, CZcams wont let me leave links in the comments section without censoring me. You can find it kit on the Eunorau web site. Looking forward to see how your bike does against a stock XP. 👍🏻 thanks for the quality content!
Thanks bro. I’m interested to see how yours performs. The only reason I was brave enough to splice wires is because I have something even more powerful on the way. This was just a little upgrade to hold me over
@@DavidBrandNew throttle only mine hovers between 24 and 26 mph, (with a little bit of paddle 28) it behaves a little bit different than the XP. Pedal-assist 0 thru 5, throttle only works on 0. Mine is a little bit faster with a throttle than it is with pedal-assist 5, but it feels like it has a little more torque with pedal assist. 18 amp controller. But the faster you go the less power wants to give you, always feels like the motor has more, but he controller just won't give it. So when you're going up a hill it will dump all the power it has, but if you're already going pretty fast, it throttles the power back. Which I guess is good for range. I upgraded to a 20 amp power triangle pack. On nothing but pedal-assist 3 and 4 it gets 50 miles before it starts to slow down. It completely shut down for me between 55 and 58 miles. I like it, I wasn't expecting it to be this good, I went cheap because I read so many e-bike horror stories, ( less of a risk).
@@marcs4091 sounds like you have a pretty good setup. Mine does the same thing when up to speed.
@@DavidBrandNew yeah it's not bad, I have two gas bikes for when I really want to haul a$#, but their pavement princesses.
Please post a snapshot of the final color code connections so we don't have to go through same issues
with 20x4 inch tires I think the wheel size is actually measured 23in, I think the lectric uses 3in tires tho so prob different
Do you have a 20x4.0 tire on the back? If u do is it the stock 3.0 wide rim with 4.0 tire? Also if you do put a 4.0 on back, can you still use the stock fender?
im watchiing this and laughing, because i went through the same stuff modifying and upgrading, first to dual motors then to 3k hub motor on my 20 x4 fat tire. you had to use the the 2 "intelligent" wires to get that tire moving.
Lol I literally don’t know what I did but it worked 👊🏽
can i get the link for the 1500w controller
Does this controller work with xp 2.0 and xp 3.0
When are your Turtleneck XLs going to be back in stock?
Hey David! I'm looking for a simple Battery Upgrade tutorial IF you think it's something your viewers would benefit from. Was the battery upgrade difficult? Was there anything special you had to do besides getting the correct mount? Does the battery being on top change the feel of the ride? IE Center of Gravity... I found a link to the battery you use in another of your vids. Now I just need to know what to expect if I wanna make that upgrade.
Thanks!!
Its super easy. I used super strong double sided tape to mount it. Make sure you get the right connector that is compatible with the lectric control. I think its anderson. It will feel different if you’re using both batteries. I just use one so it feels the same.
That's pretty impressive. I like the mods up to this point. I wonder if you are right on that motor being governed at 28 mph? Be pretty neat if you could find a another hub that does not have that limitation and see what is possible? I bet you will find that solution. By the way I ended up getting that DJI pocket 2 camera for gimbal cinematic shots and sold the GoPro 8 I had. With that said, I will probably start using the DJI Action camera seeing it's price came down to $200 and will probably drop more here in the next couple months. So do you plan on looking to find a hub motor to break that 28 mph barrier? --chris
Yes I already have one on the way. It’s coming from china so it will take a while. I should be able to hit 35mph no problem.
Also I could try a 52v battery to see if that changes things on the current setup.
I use the osmo action for all my videos. I have no complaints.
Nice video. Way to hang in there and make it happen. In the end, do your think its worth doing?
where can i buy the controller?
Good job
Cool costom grips!!
DavidBrandNew = Dr Frankenstein of eBikes.
Hey David.. What settings did you change in display to make it work with XP?
Aww that was a while ago but from my memory I used the same settings from the stock display. At least the ones that applied
Any motor issues from the larger controller and do you have a link for the controller?
No issues yet
Does the size of the wheel size in a controller have an affect on speed? If so, how?
I tried that one it doesn't work. it just shows lower miles per hour on the display. Like instead of like 19 on the original it was showing like 17 on just throttle. I believe there's an RPM limit in the motor somehow.
I plan on changing the controller and wiring 2 52v 20ah batteries on my XP 2.0 in the near future. The controller is the same one you have, but as you said throughout the video, the color scheme is not matched with the lectric wires. can you explain in detail how to connect this?
Did you ever? If so how does it work?
Nice work, bravely done, you are a true ebike customizer now!
Once you put hydraulic brakes on, XP arguably all built and maxed out. Could it be time for a new bike or new frame? What's in the pipeline?
Yes I think at that point I would be looking into customizing a new bike. Which ones do you think I should consider
@@DavidBrandNew Lots of great choices out there these days! Everyone has their own taste, but if I am buying a bike, I want to love how it looks. I love my Zooz, but my wife wanted a step through, so she chose the XP when I thought we would both be Zoozers. I plan on keeping both of these unmolested and legal for street and bike paths.
But the 2 wheel electric bug has overwhelmed me and I need more electric powah, so I recently ordered a Black Tea Bonfire (scrambler style street legal emoped- great new pics on their Trello page). As with the Zooz, I am supporting a BRANDNEW company on their first production run, and I have to wait a few months to get it, but I truly enjoy having opportunity to support the first creations of my favorite designs.
If I was a confident bike builder like you, maybe I would choose the CirKit frame and build to specs of either being maxed power for ebike legality, or just being a 40-50mph dominator (advantage of custom built means only the builder knows the true specs). I would also choose regen braking for efficiency and to save brake pad wear.
But I am anxious to see what's next for you!
How do you remove the top speed limit? It should be able to go at least 35mph now?
I can hit 33mph on a full charge. I think thats about it because I weigh 210
How about putting a rack on the back and then mounting the battery on the back rack to make the bike look more sleek?
Yes you can definitely do that
How did you mount the battery on top of frame of bike ??
Industrial grade double sided tape
Works on xp 2.0?
duel battery?
Okay! And you saved weight with this setup.
Yea I still think yours pulls a little bit stronger but we’ll see the next time we meet up
Hey David, what rear pegs are those?? I've been trying to find rear pegs for my xp but that motor wire gets in the way lol..
Hey man they are just regular pegs. I put a bolt thru the hole above where the motor wire is and attached the pegs to it
@@DavidBrandNew ahh good idea, thanks! I appreciate it
Hey David Johnnyv here in Nova Scotia , got my X P before Christmas past and wanted to up grade my controller was wondering if the 35 amp was max or what, the only reason i wanted to up grade was for hill climes , think it is a good move or will it be detrimental for the motor .
Yes 35amp max on the controller. I think if you continuously pushing 1500w for a long period of time it will kill the motor. But if you ride smart it should be fine. Also once the bike gets up to speed it only uses 500-700w to maintain top speed. Only time will tell with the motor. I have a back up plan just in case 👍🏽
Did you find a 35a controller that works in the frame with PAS, speedo all working? I'm in the same boat for the same reason (hills)
So I have a G-Force t42 and I was looking at the app controller it is only a 500-watt motor with 20 amp controller if I swap it out for 35amp will it produce more torque do I need to change the battery to
Yes you will have more torque. It won’t affect top speed but you should be able to hit 30mph throttle only
@@DavidBrandNew should I change the battery to I currently have 48v 10ah battery and if so what kind of battery do I need for it to at least last me of 25 miles throttle only appreciate your help thank you
You should put 52 volt its faster then 48 depending on power off watts I done with 1500watt motor it's crazy I went 40 or 50
I will consider that
Where did you get it from? I’m torn between engwe and lectric and that’s going to decide if I get the lectric
I would go lectric
Did you drill into the frame to attach the battery or did you use one of these?
No Drill Battery Mount Kit - Luna Cycle
lunacycle.com/no-drill-battery-mount-kit/
I used super strong double sided tape. I might drill into it to make it permanent
Can you do a tutorial
More Amps = more acceleration, more Volts = more speed. You will gain more range and more top speed if you change to street tires and use 30psi
where did you get the 1500w converter ? and you get just for the back tire right ?
I got the controller from a supplier on alibaba.
Hey David.. Can you pls share the dealer details.. Pls.. Thanks
Get back on that drawing board. Great entrepreneurs started their products and services from their garage. I can hear people saying, "Shut up and take my money!".
Cool Video. What gps app are yuo using? i'm trying new apps.
Its called speed gps lol. It was free 🤷🏽♂️😂
@@DavidBrandNew Thanks bro
DBN! How many miles do you have on that particular XP?
I believe over 800. Last time I checked it was at 700 something but that was a month ago
I wonder what an upgraded Friend Bike would be like?
No way you can change it to 1500w with controller upgrade? You need to upgrade the motor, I could be wrong tho
whats the name of the battery?
Hailong
You can adjust the speed from the settigns bike setting 😂 it can go up to 28moh from stock bro
Not throttle only plus it has way more acceleration
Next video’s title: How to Repair a Fried Lectric XP Motor 😂😂
So the motor couldn’t take the wattage? I’m wonder if you go Grizzly Mod with that controller would it that route be more efficient “safer” for the motor? Gonna go by my local e/bike shop this afternoon & talk it up. Hopefully they have some answers or maybe this takes us down a rabbit hole. Keep up the great work. You & Grizz inspired me to get that bike around Christmas
@@VertedMonk it can. That was just a joke lol.
I'm not saying it has to be you but I am interested in how they determine the ratings for these motors since clearly the 500w go over that number for peak performance. We've seen computer chips be overclocked and often it just has to do with cooling and in this case I'd wonder whether it was more the controller than the hub motor. Since you've got a friend with a 750w motor and you seemed to indicate the performance between them wasn't too big it might be worth a video or two looking into this..
@@trumptman i think they stress test them to see how much they can handle for certain periods of time. All motors have a nominal wattage and a peak. This little sucker clearly packs a punch. I will keep you guys updated if this upgrade ends up ruining my motor 👍🏽
I suspect that the limiting factor on these motors is primarily heat. Under load, it will draw as much current as it needs. The stock controller will supply up to 20 amps and then limit. Your controller, IIRC, can supply almost twice that. You have proved that, at least for short bursts, the motor can take it. If you ran for a "long" time, the temperature would rise and the insulation on the motor windings would melt. Then wires would short which would increase the current while decreasing the horsepower. The secondary limitation might be the stress on the internal gears. As the load increases, the pressure on the gear's surfaces increases. This pushes the lubrication out of the way resulting in more wear. You are the pioneer here and will find answers to all of these questions.
I also suspect that the added current cannot increase your level ground top speed since that is a function of voltage as long as the motor can draw all of the current it needs. Now, if you wanted to add a boost power converter, you could keep the voltage constant at the maximum. This converter would go in series with the battery while being powered by the battery. It wouldn't have to put out more than about 10 volts but would have to pass all of the current. It would need to output up to 10V x 20 amps = 200 watts for the stock controller or 400 watts for your new controller. The converter would be set up to regulate the total output voltage and adjust its small output voltage to get there.
Is that fork 24 0r 26?
it's a 26. He mentions it on one of the xp groups on Facebook. I was trying to find out exactly what fork it is though.
David by chance when you were swapping out these controllers did you happen to figure out which wire on the XP controller goes to the speed sensor I have seen mixed reviews of people saying that you can get 28 miles per hour on throttle only I would imagine there has to be a way to bypass the speed sensor
Yes It is the white wire that is connected to the motor. I’m not sure how to bypass it. I tried unplugging it but then it won’t calculate your speed. Maybe it’s possible to go faster but you would have to verify with a phone app
With out it showing the speed limit did you happen to notice any difference in the feel. Not so much wanting more speed it just want to hit 28 on throttle only 😉
You should disconnect it on Red Bone and see if she can keep up LOL Sot out to Jane
@@brianinman1348 it felt the same to me.
@@DavidBrandNew Or a cheap bicycle speedometer. You da man at brave tampering. I thought it might burn up during the experimental connecting/ reconnecting. I'm a retired automation control builder. Electrical stuff can blow up in the twinkling of an eye. We called it "letting the smoke out." Glad that didn't happen to your bike.
Third Time’s the Charm!
With fat tires I think you might gotta measure the whole tire top to bottom to recalculate speed.
Yea on the stock display the tire size is supposed to be set at 22”
DBN Gps'd it !!
Even though your controller is feeding your 500w motor 1500 watts I think a 500w motor's peak wattage is like 800 watts so that is what it is functioning at so like 700 watts is going to waste. if you spend 300 bucks on a 1500w motor you should be able to get to 35-37 mph.
I’ve never sen a 1500w go that fast unless you weigh 100 pounds
You can pump 1500watts through a 500 rated motor if you want and it will use every watt! But heat is the enemy and I don't hold hope of it surviving for too long lol
I ain’t gonna front this is official David I already told you on Instagram lol ima dm you about my bike you can probably help me with better understand
Keep it up though this def a banger video
Yea bro I got you 👊🏽
So dope
The larger volt battery will get more speed,..but it gets HEAVY to carry up stairs or just to lift !!
Umm move to ground floor.
Take the battery out at carry them separately
So can you add a front motor? It looks great but it's beyond my patience level and truthfully... I'm not that smart.
Yes check out Urban Grizzly. He added a front motor to his
Whooo!! 👍🏼

I believe, some states have MV laws that don't allow ebikes above 1000 watts. Ya might want to check before doing this....
You are absolutely 100% right 👍🏽
Proceed with caution
Imagine getting a ticket for racing bicycles. Lol
@@Perfectjzman 😂😂
You gotta change the wire of your battery too, your stock battery has 14awg, go for 10awg or you will burnout
Just like my father, he cant help tearing stuff apart😂
Nice upgrade. I see a motor upgrade in your future. One steep hill at the new full power and it'll probably burn out.
Upgraded amps give more torque (acceleration). If you want more speed you need to up the voltage. That controller can probably handle a 52 volt for a couple more mph. If you want more speed check what voltage the controller can handle for top speed upgrades.
Note: I'm a DIY e-bike enthusiast but have no experience with the XP.
Ride on & enjoy;)
I got something coming that I think you might like
Message me. I need advise mate
@@custom4lif3 I'm not really a hub motor or pre-built guy. Best advise I can give is go online, join groups & research before your build (or upgrade). I read and watched everything I could but that was more than 5 years ago so things have changed (no pre-built hub motor values like a Lectric XP until recently). I can say that back then nothing could beat the power, speed, climbing ability plus bang for buck of a Bafang BBS02 or BBSHD mid-drive conversion (partially because Rad & Sondors were the only entry level e-bikes then).
