  • Here is a 1968 Charger 440 RT. This was built from two Revell kits back in 2001 about. This was when Revell had issued the stock 69 Charger RT. Then issued the Dick Landy 68 Charger race car. It had all the correct for 68 parts but did not have the stock hood, engine and wheels. So I combined the two kits to make a stock 68 Charger RT. I could have used the magnum 500's in the 69 kit but I wanted different wheels. I got those from the Revell 69 Dart GTS kit!

    I have never built a model car before but saw the 68 Charger by Revell at Hobby Lobby. 68 Charger is my dream car, so I had to buy it. At least if never own one, I'll have a model of one made up just like I would have a real one that I can admire. The paint job and vinyl top looks great on yours!

      Thanks! It’s a good kit just take your time on the front suspension and front valance panel. It’s a tight fit in that area.

    Fantastic build! A note on Chrysler engine colors; Street Hemi Orange was used on high performance street engines from 1968-1971, while Race Hemi Orange was used on the cross ram 426 Hemis. They're very similar colors but side by side you can see the difference. Thank you for building yours with the correct Chrysler turquoise.

    Glad you came in first place and your labor of love was the 68 440 RT, definitely that beautiful coke bottle style was a hit with buyers and Chrysler in my opinion out did themselves with the wild colors and strips you could order. The red 'glows' and is perfect for that car! Congrats Raoul on a great build!

    Now, Sept of 2023, I am working on this same kit, the current issue with the brown box art. Just painted it red overall.

    Great looking charger! I've built several '68 and '69 kits and swapped bodies on a few,'68 kit is without a doubt the best charger kit out there,tons of option and can swap parts with the '69,again great charger,color is sweet.

      Thank you! I want to do one of the Revell 70 Chargers. I have not done that one yet but have done a MPC 70 Charger (Modelhaus copy) built one Modelhaus and have one more Modelhaus copy and one original MPC 70 Charger. I have had those long before the Revell 70 kits came out.

    Another excellent build! The red on this one really pops and it looks great on the chassis 👍 I don’t recall you doing many red cars, except the ‘Cuda, maybe that’s it? In any case, I live the history and live seeing the old builds! 👍

    I made my 1968 Charger just like this; red and black, but I also added a wing like a Daytona and put a license plate on it that says “WKDWING” that’s the only reason I put the wing on it.

    What model cars are most desired to have in a collection to collector's? I've been buying already built kits from eBay and I completely break it to the chassis and completely overhaul the car and each car I spend at least three to four months I've got a 57 Belair flipnose I've been working on for the past three year's and it's my gem out of all I've built. I've put a lot of hours and sweat into making it my own vision and detail is everything.

    If I may ask a stupid or obvious question…how does one achieve a vinyl top like the one you’ve accomplished here? It would love to learn how to do that for my GTX and Charger.
    Cheers for you awesome work!🖖🏻

      Thanks. I did a How To on, spraying the Vinyl top using an airbrush. czcams.com/video/KsbbpkTw-lg/video.html It may not answer all your questions. I plan a better How To on this with a future project.

    This why you NEVER put a heavy engine like a Hemi on a 3-leg engine stand!. How many times did it tip over? Instant foot death.

    The engine is the wrong color it is suppose to be turquoise and 68 build was 96,100

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes 62-71 would be more of a blue-green turquoise color. But Testor’s didn’t make that color back when I built that. 72 and later was a darker blue like what I used. I have Scale Finishes Chrysler engine turquoise 62-71 but it looks a bit too green. I didn’t have that back then. Also I was quoting from memory when I said something like 89k. That’s from some of my old Mopar Magazines I have read over the years. Wikipedia lists 96100 now. Hagerty lists 96000 and old rides lists 92590. Some production numbers make me laugh. For example my 70 Sport Suburban is one of 16k. But only 9100 9pass and 4400 6pass wagons. But that does not add up. Plus I don’t know why they call it a 9 pass. Front bench has seat belts for 3, middle seat has seat belts for 3. Rear seat that faces backwards has seat belts for two. That’s 8 people! Not 9…
