- This time on Sally's Speed Shop we go meet Tony, the man who owned our new Javelin racecar for the last 32 years and check out his collection of AMCs. Then after Dzus-ing the hood on the car we head to Alfano Performance to check out some more AMCs then hit the road back south to Georgia stopping in to see Tom Patsis at Cold Hard Art as well as a behind the scenes look at Holley Performance! I also see just how many times I can say the word "cool" in a single CZcams video! Hope y'all enjoy the show!
Check out the more in depth tour of Holley's carburetor production check out SmarterEveryDay's video here!

And a huge thank you to Mark Frisbie for the hospitality in Indianapolis and the Zoerners up in Wisconsin for not only taking care of us while we were up there but also for going and getting the car for us and storing it till we could come get it!

Every time you show this Javelin on CZcams, my heart races and other strange this happen to my lower extremities. I have always been a huge AMC fan.i have owned many of them. I love this car.
Although I'm a chevy guy, I have always liked the AMC cars (actually all cars). When I was 14 an older friend had a Gremlin X with the 301 and 4 speed jacked up with the wheels sticking out the quarter panels, classic 70/80's look. He would take us cruising around, very fond memories. Love the content Thanks Jacob.
That black 1971 401 Javelin is brilliant!!!
That car is sweet!
I love it.Super nice car.
I'm 571 miles away from Kenosha Wi. But my God, I want to drive my 71 Javelin there and hang out with these AMC guys.
COOL AMX and the Gremlin!!!!
SO cool!
Ty for those old starts love the javelins
Glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for watching!
I had a high school buddy that was into AMC after 40yrs I can see the appeal now
As a Ford guy i think AMC is underrated. My dad has a restored 1969 AMX. I like them because they are different
Couldn't agree more, they're actually super cool, quality little cars in general!
I love that ur dad has the AMC bug too.l hope he buys the burgundy racecar.
Haha he can’t help himself!
So so very 😎 love them all thanks 👍😊
Epic! You need to restore it and take it to drag week! ❤
The plan is to make it a drag and drive car for the 2024 season, but we're gonna try to make it just a drag car by this summer!
@@SallysSpeedShop Make sure it has drag cars and not drag queens lol
Regarding getting the javelin out of the rain, it makes a car guy happy that you are 90 pro cent in, at you girlfriends 😎✌️🤣😂😜
Nice car, nice story and nice video!
It's going to be a cool ride
For sure!
Awesome. I hope your feeling better great video. I just watched it . Rainy snowy Monday morning in Pennsylvania so I'm brightening it up by watching this . 👍☀️🌄 And now I'm headed to my shop .
Keep on Killing it 👍❤️❤️
Thank you my friend!
Used to love Rome when I was a kid. It's probably been almost 20 years since I've been though. I miss it so much. I'm sure it's probably nothing like it was but I still want to go back. Want to take the wife to lookout mountain. I wish Up The Creek was still open. Oh well. Anywho. Great vidja as always. Thanks for bringing us all along brother. Hope you're feeling better.
Rome is a great little city! You should go back and check it out. Thank you and thanks for watching! 🙌🏼
Always like. Fun thanks 😊
I do love that terminator x I don’t know why anyone plays with carburettors these days
Fuel injection is so much better and so easy to use
Can’t wait to see the AMX going 👍👍
Excellent to hear first hand so much of the backstory and life of this car.
It was super cool to get to talk to him about it!
Was nice to see you pass by a few of my old hangouts in Kenosha , Hope you are feeling better !
Oh man! That’s cool! And thanks, I’m back to 100% 👍🏼
Building a Legacy!!!!
Doing my best!
That piece of art could be your new hood ornament
DUDE THAT CAR IS BADASS I still have my dad's 68 nova factory big block 4speed it was built in the 80s quarter tubbed with a 6 point cage I still have it but now it's just a shell my dream is to finish it in his memory it was so so close being done and then life got in the way he put his family first growing up
Very nice! That would be great to finish!
It's amazing the amount of products that are available in the US, that are made in the US on any motoring based shows. Whether it's YT, streaming services or free to air TV, in Australia it's vastly different. In Australia more than 50% would come from China, probably about 35% from the US/EU and around 15% would be locally made.
What a great project car find
Thanks! We think so too!
Another great video 👍👍
Thank you!
great stuff thanks
Came over to your channel from watching DeBoss Garage. First look at your playlist showed AMC Javelin. Yep, instant subscriber. Looking forward to watching more of your playlist and following the Javelin getting back to the road
I love the orange one...😎
It's such a cool car!
Another COOL video. Thanks 😎
Thanks for watching Bill! 🙌🏼
Love the car. Can’t wait to see the next video about it
Thanks! It's gonna be rad!
well all the journey was amazing, and looking forward to see the AMC running ,,
Thanks for following along! We're excited for it!
Just loved both of these great utubes on AMC. Looking forward to following.
We had a 68 Rebel when we were kids in the 70's.
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Love me an AMX! This was wicked cool! Great job on vid.
Thank you! This one is gonna be fun!
love the javelin brother can't wait till it's on the road
It’s gonna be such a cool project to finish up!
That amc is gunna be so cool going down the track! Super cool that you plan on bringing it over to them when you get it running 💪🏻
Thanks man! It’s gonna be a fun one to finish their story and let them be a part of it!
Work at a company that makes aluminum suspension parts for GM and Chrysler. Wish we were making the intakes for Holley. That would be cool.
@25:32 MY GOD THE OVERLAP ON THAT MONSTER ENGINE! YOUR CHANNEL WILL GROW EVEN MORE MY GUY BECAUSE YOU ARE NOW AN AMC GUY!
It sounded quite healthy for sure! This is gonna be a fun project!
@@SallysSpeedShop YESS! IM SAVING UP MONEY FOR AN IND 500 CID STOKER BLOCK ATM...ITS REALL EXPENSIVE BUT I WANT TO BUILD A REPLICA OF A JAVELIN TRANSAM RACER FROM BACK IN THE DAY....ILL BE FOLOWING YOUR PROJECT FO SHO!
Hello Sally's Speedshop. My name is Jake. Back in ye olden days, I was once a boat builder, Bass Notro, to be exact, I then moved on to naval aircraft structural mechanic. So I have a tidbit of advice for your hood and trunk lid. If you want to hear it, if not, feel free to stop reading now, no hard feelings.
As for the hood, you can make it even liter by removing the metal c channel and replacing it with balsa wood. making sure to use epoxy to glue the wood to the hood and then cover it with the woven fiberglass, not the mat. Also if you ever find a structural problem, reinforce it by making a composite of wood and fiberglass by cutting the wood in thin strippes and layering with the fiberglass, how many layers depends on how strong you want it and does it require some kind of fasteners and how long will they be.
On to the trunk lid as you already have one made out of metal you can use it as a mold by making a plaster cast, just be sure to use one of the casting releases compounds both when you make the mold and when you make your new hood. And remember releasing agent first clear coat next step 3 paint step 4 epoxy puddy any sharp lines or anyplace that it looks like the fiberglass trouble conforming this will reduce your chances of having air bubbles that you will have to go back and grind out and patch later, step 5 mat fiberglass for a smooth look and then the woven fiberglass, step 6 after allowing time for drying use your shops air compressor to blow air between the mold and the new hood. Oh I forgot once you start fiberglass it's one layer of each and then if you think that you are going to have a weak spot or flexibility issues now would be the time to add the balsa wood. And remember, once you start, don't stop
GREAT video man your content is a1
Thank you so much!
Howdy from Camden County Georgia, Good Job on the Videos :o)
Thank you! And thanks for watching! 🙌🏼
Love the black one
Wait till you see the blue iridescent one!
I had a javelin when I was 16 want it back
Oh nice! You should find yourself another one!
When I bought .my jav it was advertised in the (news paper) lol as an amx.. so I went to look and bought it anyway..
I found an amx previous wreck repaired poorly I can buy it maybe for a couple grand
Just need to sell my house in NY first
I’m a dodge man but the AMX is it good looking car
They really are cool!
Cool 😎 !!
So many Javelins!
I have two , very unique looking cars . The 71-74 Javelins look fast sitting still .
I sent you pictures of mine . One all original and one a Pro Street 496 Chev powered !
@@Amxraceroh yes, that car is awesome!
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Should ask Tony about the steering cable. Haha. Because Racecar.
Apparently it was factory in the Ford Pinto 👍🏼
i have a 72 javelin 360 4 speed. 273 gears. good driver. 59 custom 327 3sped w/od. low milage 485k. 66 american 232 standard 3sp 500k miles , second 1/4mile. with turbo. if driven nicely it will get 30 mpg. running hard maybe 4mpg. guess i'm an AMC nut.
AMC motors are so cool, I’d love to see what a turbo on a 401 could do
Well maybe we’ll have to find out if we keep this thing AMC powered!
cylinder walls are too thin to boost on a 401, the block is too weak to take really high boost for racing. You'd need to fill the block. Even then, it would be considered weak for heavy boost. Most folks boost the 304 because the block and cylinder wall thickness is much higher, can run 20+ PSI easily on a 304. All 401 cranks should be checked for cracks as cracking in 401 cranks is common, even under normal factory usage. I miss my AMCs sometimes but they had their own quirks to be certain.
🤜💥🖐️🤘 it is a adjustable hammer😂
Haha exactly! 😂
Great tow package but it needs body painted box color and 4L 60 or 4L80 trans….!
I think a lot of Mopar guys are also into AMC's
Also good seeing the dark red amx. Thats one that was helped out at my dad's shop as well. The show in july, is that part of the homecoming show on the lake? Its like a week long event. Not sure if you meant in '23 or '24. Either way i can't wait to see it done!
Oh wow! That’s really cool! I don’t think it’s part of the homecoming show, it’s one Joe Bohazchek is putting on at Great Lakes Dragway at the end of July!
@@SallysSpeedShop sweet! Hopefully i can make it down for it!
You need to get some rest bro ✌🏿💯
I did, I’m very much so back to 100% now 👍🏼
That is a really good-looking car! I actually worked in an AMC dealership back in the 1980s, I put a small block Chevy in a 69 AMX, also I put a small block Chevy in a 1969 javelin! There just weren't a whole lot of good speed parts available at a reasonable price back then for the AMC V8
Amc motors where not built by AMC they borrowed from ford Chevy and dodge depending on the car
@@stephenphillips4507 they werent from other manufacturers, there v8 and inline 6's were definitly there own. They did use others transmissions
They borrowed parts from everyone take apart an AMC engine you will see for gm and dodge parts depending on the engine spec the called it American motor company for a reason the took other manufacturer discard parts to build the parts
@@stephenphillips4507 total nonsense. I’ve been a mechanic for 40 plus years, worked on every engine you could imagine including working at a AMC dealer. Their engines are thereown
@@chrishorbatt3504 they built the engines but the parts for them came from dodge ford and Chevy. Only engines they built that where fully there where the 390 and 4.0l engine the AMC 390 had all cast parts because when they rolled it out they didn't give the engineers time to actually research and build the parts the traditional way so the cast them
After this build need to do amc hornet content your dads car
We need to build all of the AMCs apparently haha People dig the AMC content it seems!
Awesome vid! Did Tim get lost and decide to stay in AMC land?
He flew home haha Forgot to mention it on the video 😂
I would sell my soul to get good hands on it
I don’t know about all that haha It is cool though!
AMC guys are like Fiero guys. Can’t have just one, lol.
We're all addicts apparently haha
I'm reformed an living through y'all at the moment it's cheaper....😎
@@jeanlawson9133 haha! I bet.
and Mustang, and Whorevette, and FJ40, and Jeep, and Camaro and... any car other than high end pasta rockets.
it took me 11months to get edelbrock aluminum heads ugh
I know where you can find a 1967 AMC Rebel SST Convertible. Numbers matching with the 289 that runs . The guy also has a rebuilt 401 bored 30 over and a rebuilt 327 Tran's with zero miles on them.
That’s super awesome! I’m not much of a convertible guy, but that still sounds cool!
@@SallysSpeedShop It's in Alabama so not far from you. He also has some 1936 and 1937 Packard's you might want to look at.
@@mmill6505those sound super cool as well! Are any of them for sale?
@@SallysSpeedShop He does have a 37 Packard Coupe for sale. It's a project car but he has all of the part's to make it a one of a kind except the floor pan.
AMC GUYS ARE PRETTY HARDCORE! ALSO MOPAR GUYS ARE A DIFFERENT BREED...IM BOTH OF THOSE.....AND I ALSO HAVE A THING FOR THE PONTIACS OR BOP GROUP OF CARS IN GENERAL.
Haha so you’re basically just a diehard car guy no matter what you’re working on? That’s the best way to be 🙌🏼
@@SallysSpeedShop LOLZ YES AND NO...I ACTUALLY LOVE AMCS FIRST, THEN MOPAR THEN BOP CARS, I HATE CHEVY;S AND FORDS. BUT I LOVE ALL MUSCLE CARS REGARDLESS OF MAKE! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! BEEN SUBBED FOR A MINUTE!
Who else thinks the Javelin would look great behind his dad's dually?
I’m sure you’ll see that combo at some point!
@sally's Speed Shop, is there any social media or CZcams channel for tommy to follow him?
Is that actually the top part of an amx cowl induction hood? (Would have been fiberglass)
I’m not sure!
It is. Took the frame off and reinforced it with aluminum tubing. Pretty sure your dad donated it to the cause
@@tonymancusi5657 awesome! I figured it was. Not sure if they even make or made aftermarket hoods like the cowl one. If they did it probably wouldn't have as good of fitment though. I still remember some ones hood like folding in half at union grove. Was that on Tom's car?
Yep it was Tom’s. That’s what prompted me to reinforce that hood (and Tom’s).
Haha it's awesome to learn more little stories like that on the car! Very cool!
Any contact details for Tony please.,, I am in Australia looking for a part for my 72 Javelin
Service truck look like a low rider in back
It needs some helper bags for sure haha
Drag week??
Possibly for 2024!
I love ya, but I swear every time you point to that little screen and say something like "gotta love the terminator x" I become less likely to ever buy one 😂😂 I hate the screen. And a factory ecu would start just as well
There is way more to it than that little screen that makes it far superior to a factory ECU and you can upgrade the screen to a bigger one if you want. If you looked into it further I’m sure you’d see why I love it so much 👍🏼 In my opinion it is the ultimate LS swap engine management system.
@Sally's Speed Shop I personally would have loved to have one prior to having to listen to people act like factory ecus suck
Why y'all talking about me in this vid. You keep saying my name Zeus!!!! Lol.
Haha I didn't know the Greek god of Thunder watched our channel!
@@SallysSpeedShop Everyone thinks Hercules is strong, but Zeus is the FATHER of Hercules lol. Just sayin'. Love the channel.
@@edwardkamenar1493 hard to argue with that haha
Painted my 68 jav 84 gm spectra red.. the redist red I could buy .. the next guy painted it red white and blue over my a1 paint job
Oh man! I'm sure you were bummed, but it's hard to hate those three colors together! #Merica!
@@SallysSpeedShop well maybe if he painted it nicely and with the correct pattern.. he didn't
My paint was sprayed in a paint booth with baked on finish by the best painter in my area .. his paint was maybe a spray can job.. but he got what he wanted .. I was a foolish child to sell it
Oof... That's unfortunate, but that's the way it goes sometimes! Hope you got yourself another hot rod after that!
Lots of them but ur first is allways special
I have a Devin special car now
26:21. How much for the Gremlin. Looks like a 1974.
I’m not sure if it was for sale or not. It was pretty nice!
Put universal radiator overflow and quit loosing coolant.
It’s not losing coolant from the cap, there’s a pinhole leak in the core somewhere.
Oh,ok
I doubt it but maybe around 1:45 rolling into to that town sure appeared that you blew through the stop sign while you were vlogging and driving I wanna see you vlogging while dragging the amc
Haha nope, just blew past a sign saying there was a stop sign coming up! I do my best to be safe!
@@SallysSpeedShop my bad haven't driven in a long time saw the crossroads and a post jumped to conclusions as it was quite a ways down the road to the next intersection, knew a pastor years ago through a mechanic he had some gremlins javelins pacers and something else with built 401s in them man were they rippers
Haha no worries! Funny enough I feel like I’m actually a worse driver when I don’t have something to keep me busy cause I zone out 😅 And oh man! That’s very cool!
You need to get the girlfriend in the garage to build something for her lol
I have an idea for a car for her, but it’s more money than I have to spend right now unfortunately 😅 We’ll see what I can work out though!
See, AMC guy wants a Rebel Machine.. now you see why I'm crying about what that idiot did to that Rebel that Derek Bieri has. Even if you just cut out the floor and put a full tube chassis under that thing with a full cage and a built engine, it'd be so much better than leaving it as the bastardized piece of crap that it is now. If only I had money. I like AMC's for the same reason I love Edsels and Moto Guzzis.. because most people don't. You need to fly out to Sacramento and go down to Stockton and buy the car I'd love to and take it home and put a NASCAR engine in it.. There's a 85 Monte Carlo SS on facebook marketplace. No engine or trans. Guy said it had a 455 in it, no reason it ever should have, being a Chevy it would've been a 454, but those cars never came with a big block, it was 305 or 350 only. Still, I'd love to have it but can't build it so.. have at! No way in hell would I ever put a LS in it, but then the only thing I'd ever do with a LS is pack it full of explosives and make it the fastest engine in the world. LS stands for Lame Shit.
William Dzus.. Ukrainian :D Not only because of everything that's going on but also because I'm part Ukrainian, my dad's dad's mom's family were from Ukraine, the immigrated in ~1897. "The fastener was invented and patented by an American engineer of Ukrainian descent William Dzus in the early 1930s." The funny part most people don't realize is the groove in the Dzus fastener is the size of a quarter.. if you have a quarter you can remove them.
You should get a hold of BDS or RBS or someone that can make you a regular manifold and get them to hook you up with a blower for that thing and hide it inside that scoop. Or Hampton Blowers out of Downey California.. I had never heard of them before and they have the cheapest blower I've ever seen.. $1350 for a AMC manifold?! (everyone else wants 2400-2500) www.hamptonblowers.com/price
BTW Jacob if you want some really cool wheels Holley has all their Halibrand wheels on clearance right now for like $280 each.
Race mode, definitely go methanol it runs so much cooler. I was about to say how it's so much cheaper than gas too but suddenly the price just sky rocketed. Last time I checked it was like $3.82/gal from VP for their M1 but now it's over $10/gal!
OMFG! I've never seen a bare brass carb body before... someone send me a Holley that's fully bare brass for me to put on my shelf! I absolutely LOVE brass, always have and to have my favorite carb in brass just to look at? OMFG YES!
:D Newnan Georgia is where Taylor Ray's family is from. He was just up there not long ago getting his grandma's Monte Carlo.
