    Just wanna throw out there. Love all your reviews as someone that just got an a6400. More so than that, your music choices during video samples are always sick. Appreciate all this camera content as someone just starting out in the world of photography/videography.

    Nice informative review! I wasn't aware of the aspect ratio benefit of anamorphic lenses. I quite like the flaring : ) Have been very much aware of very oval bokeh highlights in movies though and I find them quite distracting..am always distinctly glad when a video production contains round and cat-eye bokeh highlights. (Yes cats eyes are a bit oval too but they have a different shape and to the sides, not that dead straight-vertical shape that dominates a scene from left to right)

      That's what I'm waiting for too. I just bought a 23mm Viltrox for sony. I plan to keep the kit lens, the 23mm, add a 17-70, and some kind of superwide (not fisheye) manual lens. I think that will fill all my needs. That Tamron looks like a real winner.

      Laowa 9 2.8 is a magical wide angle without any fisheye distortion. It’s truly a great ultra-wide. Super sharp with just minor vignetting.

      @@keystonebrotherb I've been looking at that one. Everyone saying get Sigma 16, But my kit lens and 23mm kinda fill my needs in those areas ... will be checking out the 9

      Best $500 lens in my bag. At first I thought it was too small and not worth the $500 price, but after buying, I’d have paid double for it. I have the 16 and it’s great, but the Laowa is extraordinary. The Laowa can nearly be a macro because of close focus ability! Changes all your ideas about perspective.

  • @philipcook6191
    @philipcook6191 Před rokem

    Hi Arthur. Could you use your 24mm Sirui lens and do some interior real estate photographs. I've been looking all over the web and its not forthcoming. I know the lens is not used for this but I love the way it uses the center of the lens, the oval, and then stretches that circular bit of the lens. It looks as if there is much less distortion compared to aspherical wide angle lenses using the entire circular optic. It seems that the 24mm Sirui could pull off a more realistic wide angle interior shot. Anyways if you could do a post for your channel on this I'd love to see it and what you thoughts would be. Awesome, thanks in advance.

  • @nelsonclub7722
    @nelsonclub7722 Před 3 lety +1

    This might sound a bit daft - but if I used this as a stills lens how would I know the correct stretch recovery in LR?

    • @snaprifice
      @snaprifice Před 3 lety +2

      Depends if you shoot the still in 3:2 or 16:9. Just multiply the width of the photo by 1.33, so 6000x4000 becomes 7980x4000, which is more of a 4:2 ratio, using 3:2 you yield the full sensor readout but less horizontal stretch, 16:9 you get the appearance of a wider shot but at the expense of a top and bottom crop

    • @nelsonclub7722
      @nelsonclub7722 Před 3 lety

      @@snaprifice I knew someone would know - thanks a lot I truly appreciate it - stay safe; have a super day

    • @snaprifice
      @snaprifice Před 3 lety +1

      @@nelsonclub7722 no worries, its actually a multiplication of 1.33 no matter the width, but 3:2 is technically the best option for stills since that's the full readout. 1.33 isn't the biggest squeeze out there, but I think a lot of people would agree these were mainly targeted at videographers looking to expand 16:9

  • @OLuvin
    @OLuvin Před 3 lety +1

    Which of these 3 would you choose with an a6600 if you could only choose 1? I assume one of the faster f1.8 but seeing that those 2 are 35mm and 50mm, the crop factor makes them quite long, no?

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  Před 3 lety +1

      The 35mm F1.8 is my favorite out of the three.

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 Před 3 lety

      35mm for sure. It's a 50mm fov vertically, but the 1.33 after desqueezing, you get I think close to a 35mm-ish look on the horizontal.
      That and the flaring is much more controlled and appealing imo.

      You have not lived Sir - I grew up on a hard diret of 10x8 5x4 and 120 - we call it hocus pocus in our studio - once you've tried it you will never rely on it again!!!!

    • @jeanmanuel6182
      @jeanmanuel6182 Před 3 lety +1

      Just takes some practice, some cameras have focus peeking and that helps a lot, I use the Helios 44 a lot and I’ve gotten to the point that I almost prefer manual focus (great lens with a lot of character, definitely worth checking out) honestly, if you haven’t tried it, just turn off auto focus on your lens (some cameras you have to turn it off on the camera itself) and try it out before you buy into a lens for this price

  • @alexrowland
    @alexrowland Před 3 lety

    I'm very seriously considering the recently released Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD lens. It appears to be a legit competitor to the Sony E 16-55mm f/2.8 G Lens for almost half the price. _PLEASE_ do a review!

  • @Cuetips1000
    @Cuetips1000 Před 3 lety +1

    8:45 Arthur, are you sure that the anamorph Sirui 24 mm lens is equivalent to a 16 mm spherical lens with cropped top and bottom? If the squeeze-factor is 1.33, then the equivalent should be 19 mm on spherical lens with letterbox. Is this right?

  • @jamesbrockett786

    Yeah, your samples are in line with other CZcamsr's. A bit too much J.J. Abrams where there are reflections or sources. The flares should be softer and more subtle.
    Would be cool with filters that can stop up and down flaring, but likely impossible to do
