In this video, I share my experience using an anamorphic lens for the first time while shooting a mountain bike restoration project. I talk about the lens' build quality, handling, and image rendering, and shares some of the issues I encountered. Watch to find out whether this budget anamorphic lens is worth considering for your own creative projects.

The photos I've got with my anamorphic lenses are some of my favorites.
I'm sure you'll hear this from more people but anamorphic lenses have notoriously bad close focus distance. So you need Diopters. Diopters will allow you to get closer.
Focus peaking being untrustworthy is because the optics of anamorphic lenses are different than spherical lenses. In that they have a greater magnification at the center. I set a magnification/zoom in to a function button, so I can get a better look at my peaking and critical focus.
The image quality - The first is probably the squeeze factor. 1.33 is not much. Most anamorphics that are used to shoot big budget films or projects have a 2x squeeze factor. This is going to contribute more to the bokeh, and distortion that anamorphics are known for. Sirui are also incredibly clinical and sharp and it takes away from that flavor. I have the 1.33 and they're FF 1.6 and neither have the character I'm looking for. The anamorphic magic you're looking for would most likely require you to go bigger.
Enjoyed the video:)
Happy birthday fellow introvert! Thank you for all of your videos, this was timely for me too!
Yo Andrew! Awesome to see more people using this lens.
1. Close focus: use diopters. Old school solution but it gets you anywhere from a little closer to ALOT closer.
2. I haven’t ever trusted focus peaking on Fuji. I always have to triple check with a punch in.
3. Magical image quality. Modding the lens will get you there. Or get the 50mm or 75mm. The longer focal lengths and wider apertures show more of the rendering.
Either way, anamorphic is SUPER niche. It’s had an explosion in popularity but it’s not something most shooters will use on a daily basis or on every job. Just another thing to spend way too much money on 😅
Happy Birthday Andrew!
Happy Birthday Andrew, have a great day 👍📷👍
The journey of trying out this lens is very interesting!
Happy Birthday Andrew
A fellow introvert and 1980 baby! I thought you were younger than me!
8:16 Great observation, happy birthday!💎🦒
Happy birthday bud 🎉😎
Happy birthday Andrew! The lens may have been a disappointment but the bike looked awesome!
This is off topic, but holy cow I love that metallic paint on the bike! Looks so nice! Since I’m already off topic, mind a question about bikes from a noob? How come so many bikes don’t have a cover over the gears by the pedals? Is there a practical benefit to not covering them?
Hey brother thanks for the video the diopters will go a long way, also some diffusion and ad some smoke to your workshop.
I think you are being too harsh on yourself. I think the footage of the bike came out pretty sweet! Yes, we didn't get a comparison against non-Anamorphic lens, but overall it looked great! Also that sweater is dope! Cheers!🍻🍻
I think the lack of close focus is just a part of the anamorphic experience, unfortunately.
A set of Extension Tubes would help, since the lens is mechanical only, the Extension Tubes are quite affordable.
Hey good to see your video :) What camera did you use for this talking head by the way?
Thanks. Canon R6 II
Not meant for closeups. Need a light for flare
nice shirt! reminds me of one I used to have that said "dyslexics of the world - untie"!
As a "person experiencing dyslexia", I wonder if Denae would appreciate that shirt. ;)
@@AndrewGoodCamera there was no offence intended Andrew
Oh no offense taken at all! I'm serious about getting her that shirt as a joke. She'd get a kick out of it. :)
Happy introvert birthday!
HPD !!!!
